You wash that mouth out with soap young man!!!As for crowds...since this ride opened, it has always been “something.” It’s the initial wave of fans... then holiday crowds... then New Years... then AP blackouts in or not in effect... then the marathon weekend, then MLK, then Pres Day weekend, then Spring Break....at some point CM blackouts will be lifted... etc, etc. Disney is a never ending string of “something” that impacts crowds every day of the year.
Three years later there’s not that much of a rope drop experience difference for FoP or even 7DMT.
Sure seasons and holidays will impact things on the margins. Just not sure if it’s going to impact RotR to a material degree.
Interesting, @mechteach1. Thanks for your reply. This is a good question, but not in my experience of a single day. We were there on 12/22, and there were groups within a 5-10 foot range of us that received boarding groups of 5 (ahead of us and to our left) and 7 (directly behind us), while we received group 57 (or something like that) within the space of around 30-45 seconds. I'm not sure what was up with that *at all*. We saw the group 5 family in the preshow area of MFSR, and chatted with them, and they had the same type of phone (iPhone) and carrier as we did.
5:50am Four members of family leave.
5:53 Lagging child and I leave. He runs ahead, catching up with the rest.
Hordes of other guests are also out.
5:58 DH texts that the DHS bus is here. I tell him to leave without me. I arrive at bus stop to see bus rolling away.
6:05 Next bus comes. I'm first in line, and enough new people have arrived to have to stand.
6:06 DH and kids arrive at DHS.
6:13 People let into park.
6:19 I arrive. Hordes streaming in from cars, buses, rideshares, Skyliner.
6:38 I tap in having headed to far right.
6:42 Reunited with family purely by accident. Had abandoned trying in the wall to wall crowds of people.
We head to GE like lemmings. We realize that we can't rope drop Smuggler's Run with at least 3000 people in front of us when we have an 8:15 Epcot GG PPO breakfast. Kids are disappointed, being so close to so Batuu. We head toward the exit, and split up. DH is carrying DD, so they find a bench. DS15 and he are on WiFi, I'm on data. MDE consistently saying it's a weak WiFi connection.
6:59 + 30 seconds on my phone's clock A guy next to me say, "I'm in." I jump on it. All six of us there, and I get BG 83.
7:01 I text DH, who says his MDE said that he wasn't in the park, just the other five of us.
We stream with thousands of people to the exit, only one lane open to exit as more.and more enter.
7:03 DH texts that people near him got no group at all, couldn't get in. I feel their pain, having gotten a backup group that ended up 15 groups too late to ride yesterday. So possibly 30 seconds earlier, like if the family in front of me at the tapstiles hadn't had magicband problems, and we would have ridden yesterday and gotten two more hours of sleep this morning.
7:10 On Skyliner to Epcot reunited.
8:10 Sipping a raspberry mimosa at Garden Grill.
Supposed to be high level crowds until around January 6th.I’m hoping that’s the case. It will be interesting to see what it will be like early next week.
Man, all of these reports have me so nervous for our Prez weekend trip. We currently do not have PHs and only one day planned for DHS. I am wondering if we should add the PH option and have the ability to go to DHS every morning to attempt a BG???
But apparently, @Taylormade0503, you and I are the only ones who feel this way! This is exactly what I was afraid of when they went to the new system. There are not enough boarding groups for all the people logging in at 7. If I was them, I would go back to the old VQ method where you can join a BG right when you enter the park...but I know they won’t.
Well, I allowed myself a glimmer of hope yesterday when they extended hours to 10 mid-day, but still 171 was not to be. I received after a notification through the app after 8 pm that they were stopping boarding groups... at 167. In the park from 6:30 am to 9:45 pm, no dice.
I checked in with CMs a couple times during the day, and they have no sympathy for BG left-behinds, I can say that much. SWGE was still awesome, but it is distinctly not “Disney magical.”

we are 100% in similar case - we are there president's week and our DHS day is that Monday the 17th (picked that as it was projected to be a better crowd day due to day before being an EMH day) and we have the 4-park tickets so just one shot for DHS .... I was feeling ok before where it seemed like as long as you were there at opening you would get a BG (might be later than you would like but you would get one) but now it seems like if you have any sort of tech issue you may get shut out
And just two phones for my family (my wife and mine) - different services (I am t-mobile and she is Cricket/AT&T) so hopefully one of us can get through
Or BGs are smaller so filling up faster. They're keeping us in the dark.Interesting that it goes within minutes now vs the past taking 15minutes. That's an indication of packed or a lot more savvy people getting onto the system efficiently
today was the first day that gold and silver ap could come back to the parks, I'm sure that had a big impact todayInteresting that it goes within minutes now vs the past taking 15minutes. That's an indication of packed or a lot more savvy people getting onto the system efficiently
For @rteetz the HUB says 7:05 backup bg full with 125 start of backups
1 iPhone 8 and 2 iphone XR. BG 91 at approx 7:01am. And 2 young techies failed and the old man got it.We have two iphone 7s and two iphone SEs (they are four year old phones) all on AT&T. I have honestly been debating about upgrading one of the iphone SEs to get a better shot at a BG.
That would be crazy. A lottery is 10x better than people camping out. This is exactly what I was afraid of when they went to the new system. There are not enough boarding groups for all the people logging in at 7. If I was them, I would go back to the old VQ method where you can join a BG right when you enter the park...but I know they won’t.

yeah that was a surprise when I read it, I knew today would be nuts but that's crazy fast. I think the attraction might be having bad tech nights where they know it won't perform well during the day and they are limiting the number of people per bgwow, that is kinda nuts that 5 minutes and even Backup BGs full ... meaning any sort of tech glitch and likely you won't even get a back up
I honestly don't know what else Disney can do but kind of a potential crappy situation for some/many
