I have a Steamboat Willie animated cell that is not working. Does anyone know of the numbers of an authorized repair shop? It is almost 10 years old and obviously past the warrenty. The company on the box is Animated Animations Co and I got the address and phone number from the internet, but they are not answering their messages.

Animated Animations Co
18 E 16th St # 6
New York, NY , 10003-3111
Phone: 212-741-0002

Can anyone direct me in the right spot to get the music and animation fixed?

Thanks!

Hi,
I know this is an old request but mine now is not working and I'm not sure how to get it fixed - did you ever get an answer - Please Share - I am so upset!!
Thanks,
Lisa

It looks like Animated Animations has gone out of business. They have also closed their website. My advice would be to take your cel to a jeweler - especially if they carry clocks. Even if they can't repair it for you, they may well be able to refer you to someone who can. Good luck!

Animated Animations went out of business quite some time ago and finding anyone who will attempt to repair one is pretty difficult. They are not your typical cel after all since they move, light up and talk. The main problem is there is no replacement parts available.
All of their pictures suffer from the same general problem of eventual gear failure. Inside the picture there are several motors. Each motor has a series of gears which actuate certain movements, they all have a spindle with a small gear on it and this gear splits and breaks causing the picture not to work properly. And eventually they all break leaving you with no more working picture. This is why you find so many on ebay selling for cheap prices. So more than likely yours will need more than one replacement part. So the solution is easy replace or fix the gear, the problem is finding one and someone who will take it apart since they are a maze inside.
I've fixed one before and still have others I am working on, (looking for gears). I'd offer to fix it but I can't guarantee I can find the gears, since I still need a few to fix mine. If you can't find anyone to fix it and wish to sell it let me know. I'll buy it on the chance there are any good gears left that inside I can use to fix others.

I just fixed one of my friend's Pepè & Penelope Animated Animation pictures...Please let me know a little about what your problem is and i maybe able to help fix your problem, or provide information on where to go get the gears that you need.

Hi. Thanks! It gets stuck at the end when the wave comes out. I lose about 5 seconds of movement. :(

Does it sound like the gear is working or is the gear not working? Have you taken the unit apart to have a look at what the problem may be?

Oh, No. I am Not mechanically inclined. I am afraid I would mess it up more.

Without being able to tell me more about the actual issue, I'm afraid i don't know how i will be able to help you.
It does sound like you might possibly have a cracked or a tooth shaved off the gear that controls the waves. If that's the case, you'll need to take it apart or find someone that can take it apart so the gear can be verified to be in working order, and if so diagnose what might be the causing the issue.

Once it has been taken apart, you can connect me on here with the findings and might be able to lead you down the right path to getting it fixed.

Thanks

Hi Casinoslotguy - My 'Sorcerer' has what sounds like a broken gear/missing cog, and I was wondering if you knew of somebody who can do the fix, including changing the gears to metal, lubrication, etc. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

I personally don't know of anyone that works on them...I fixed a friends, but i do know that i haven't came across any metal gears or cogs...We wanted to do that to his and after weeks of searching for "metal" replacement gears or even something that was close the would work, i was forced to use re-enforced plastic for his... If you would like to send me some pictures of your "Sorcerer" i maybe able to help you via email..Have you taken it apart? if so send pictures of the inside to my email address which is my screen name on this site at Yahoo.......The post wont let me type it out because i haven't been a member long enough...

Have a Wizard of Oz animation. Know the gears are shot with the grinding noise that occurs. What did you do to reinforce the plastic?

I went to our local clock shop. No such luck. He opened it up but said he has never seen anything like it before. He would not feel comfortable 'trying' to fix it. I appreciate him telling me the truth knowing he wouldn't be able to fix it up front and not charge me for anything. For that I will send people his way for clock repairs. :) He suggested I go to an Antique toy repair shop here in town. I haven't gone their yet, but hopefully I will make it soon.

Stay tuned....I haven't given up yet. :)

I'm looking to buy broken Animated Animation 3D art to use as spare parts to repair other art pieces if anyone is interested. I like to tinker with these broken pieces as see if I can get them running again. Contact me at Hamillclan4@gmail.com if you are thinking of selling your 3D art. Thanks!!!!!

With 3D printing and CNC machining almost any part can be reproduced. From over 40 years of working with model cars and trains I have found many places to buy gears and in the rare occasion the gears can't be found I know some shops that can make gears from my CAD drawings.

I looked on eBay for some broken Animated Animations to purchase (to see how difficult it might be to repair them) but only found working ones for sale.

I have a Stemboat Willie that's been in my room for years. It works and has only been used maybe 10 or 20 times . I am willing to sell for a fair price. will not ship it has to be picked up here in New Jersey (southern). I'm afraid after reading all this it would break when shipped! Just looked has all paperwork and certificates on back. Price tag of $295 on back.

The Steamboat Willie should not be too hard to sell. I have one and still enjoy listening to it from time to time. If you want to sell, I would suggest EBay since they have so many followers. People get all nuts and think their animated animations are worth a fortune, but the truth is, they sell for between $100-$200. Also you will need to ship even if though you can request shipping charges from the buyer. The best thing you can do is pull the batteries out of the back if you will not be using it very often. I ruined a "Pepe" animated animations when the battery acid leaked. I have not been able to repair it. Anyway, good luck and I hope you get what you ask for.
