Travel Advisory - Canadian’s out of country

I was listening to a similar discussion to this on the radio the other day. They were talking about furnace and water heaters but the same in home service industry. The worker they were talking to was worried about his own health coming in contact with so many "unknown" people.

Your husband can only take the precautions everyone who is still working with the public must take. Ask the homeowners to keep their distance and sanitize once he's out the door. When he gets home have him shed his clothes and wash those immediately. Shower before coming in contact with you and DD. That's all you can do. Yes continue isolating yourselves from others for your and their protection.

Keep in mind, we are all likely to get this virus eventually. What we (as a community) are trying to do is to flatten the curve so that the hospitals will be able to cope with the serious cases. This virus will not be deadly to the vast majority of us we're just trying to slow the spread of it.

As @ottawamom wrote, we will all catch the virus at one point. It's how fast we catch it that is the problem. Better for our health system if it's over months or a year versus days and weeks. In fact, it will probably become a childhood disease once we all develop immunity to it like most colds and upper respiratory infections kids get. I wouldn't be worried for catching it if I was healthy but more about spreading it to others that are in an at-risk category. DH had to visit a supplier yesterday and he wore work gloves and stayed at least 1 meter away from the workers. He also has Purell in the car and washed his hands as soon as he could. We also took the decision not to visit our parents and other elderly until Easter (maybe later depending on the situation).

There are lots of reports of people coming home from vacation and heading straight for the grocery store. Let's do our part and make sure that people coming home have their groceries or are educated enough and able to order from delivery or pick-up sources.

The rules of self-quarantine need to be stressed. People need to stay home and keep themselves separated from the non-quarantined in their house. No riding together in cars, no eating together, no using the same bathroom. If this is not possible then the entire household needs to self-quarantine.

Here they are again...

  • Staying home from work
  • Avoiding public transportation;
  • Arranging to have supplies such as groceries dropped off at their doors;
  • Especially avoiding elderly people and anyone with compromised immune systems or chronic conditions;
  • Keeping any unavoidable interactions with other people brief, maintaining at least two metres’ distance from them

In the NB press conference today it was announced today that Air Canada is starting to shut down domestic flights. As has West Jet. So.... anyone still down in Florida better start renting cars.
I wonder how my kid’s swim team is getting back? They are scheduled to fly home air Canada at 10pm. Last flight that night out of Orlando to Toronto. Thank god dd is home.

Some flights are still going. But they're shutting them down in stages. If they haven't heard anything, they're likely fine.

NB is now in a full state of emergency on full shut down. In addition to everything else that was closed earlier, now all retail services shut down immediately with the exception of gas, grocery, pharmacy, Canada Post and mechanic shops. All restaurant dining rooms closed - take out/delivery allowed. All manufacturing companies, construction etc... asked to cut staff to essential crew only and MUST maintain a 6' distance between employees. All residents MUST stay home - no visiting anyone, period. No going into public except for the essentials of groceries, gas or prescriptions. And he stressed - this is no longer a request, this is mandatory.

I think we will see the same for other provinces in coming days.

FYI From the Government of New Brunswick official FB feed:

The provincial government today declared a state of emergency under section 12 of the Emergency Measures Act to enhance measures to help contain the spread of COVID-19 (the novel coronavirus).

“The health and well-being of every New Brunswicker must remain our number one priority,” said Premier Blaine Higgs. “With the support of the of the chief medical officer of health, and with the support of the all-party cabinet committee, we are taking this extraordinary measure to provided greater assistance to the health-care sector fighting the spread of COVID-19 in the province.”
As a result of this declaration:
All food and beverage businesses will be reduced to take-out and delivery service only.
All lounges and special facilities licensed under the Liquor Control Act will stop admitting patrons.
All swimming pools, spas, saunas, waterparks, gymnasiums, yoga studios, dance studios, rinks and arenas, tennis courts, soccer and baseball fields, climbing walls, escape rooms, ski hills, golf courses, arcades, amusement centres, pool halls, bowling alleys, casinos, cinemas, libraries, museums, zoos, aquariums, barbers, hair stylists, esthetics service providers, sugar bush operations, and theatres or other live performance venues will stop admitting members of the public.
Schools, colleges, universities and private schools must be closed to students. Institutions which have students in residence are permitted to allow them to remain in residence until they can safely return home. Online course delivery may continue.
Other measures under the declaration of state of emergency include:
All businesses in retail sales will stop admitting patrons, except: grocery stores; pharmacies; repair garages; post offices; financial and lending institutions; retailers of fuel, hardware and automotive parts; convenience stores; animal and fish feed providers; and corporate and agency stores of NB Liquor and Cannabis NB. All businesses required to stop admitting patrons are permitted to sell online or over the phone and to arrange delivery or pick-up of purchases.
Every person directed by a physician to self-isolate will obey.
Every person who has been outside Canada will self-isolate within their home for 14 days after their return to Canada, and, if they experience symptoms of COVID-19 during that period, will remain self-isolated until they are free of symptoms. This requirement does not apply to people exempted by the chief medical officer of health.
Owners and operators of all other premises at which people may gather in large numbers will take all reasonable steps to prevent gatherings of more than 10 people.
All regulated health services providers will cease operations unless the services to be provided are to address essential health care or an emergency health-care situation.
All unregulated health services providers, with the exception of those that are providing direct support to regulated health services providers, shall cease operations immediately.
Owners and managers of all workplaces and organizers of all activities will take every reasonable step to ensure minimal interaction of people within 2 metres of each other and carry out advice to minimize risk as issued by the chief medical officer of health.
All owners and managers of all workplaces will reduce to critical functions and will take every reasonable step required to prevent people who exhibit symptoms of COVID-19 from entering the workplace, in accordance with advice issued by the chief medical officer of health or Worksafe New Brunswick. They will also take every reasonable step required to prevent people from entering workplaces who have travelled internationally in the previous 14 days.
All licences, registrations, certificates and permits issued by the Province of New Brunswick valid as of March 16, 2020, shall remain valid until May 31, 2020 unless suspended by a court or by other authority under an Act of the Province.
The right of landlords under section 19 of the Residential Tenancies Act to require tenants to vacate for non-payment of rent, and the authority of residential tenancies officers under section 22 of that act to evict tenants for the same reason, are suspended, until May 31, 2020.
The declaration is available online.
“This declaration provides us with the tools we need to ensure the safety of New Brunswickers. This is not a decision we took lightly,” said Higgs. “We are confident that these measures will result in New Brunswickers taking the necessary actions.”
No new presumptive cases of COVID-19 were reported in the province today. There are still 11 cases in New Brunswick: seven confirmed; and four presumptive.
“Although we have no new cases today, we know there will be more cases of COVID-19,” said Dr. Jennifer Russell, chief medical officer of health.

My parents are back in the country as of yesterday. They said the wait at 1000Island crossing took 25 minutes early yesterday morning. My sister did a grocery for them so they went straight to quarantine in their house. My dad was a registered nurse before retiring so he might help out with the COVID-19 phone line or 811 from home if he can access the training online (the government offered to re-activate their license) later this month.

As for planes, our friend who is a pilot for Air Canada said that right now they are flying to tourist destinations empty to bring back Canadians. But soon, even those flights might be stopped too imo.

Heading back in to the office today. CEO is there everyday and myself and the HR manager are taking turns this week. I am not going in next week as I would have to take the bus AND get someone to watch DD.

IF the travel bans are still in effect come December, do you think Air Miles and Air Canada would still be giving refunds? I'm imagining the worst that our December WDW trip won't happen. We used Air Canada vouchers (that had to be used towards a booking by June 5) and and air miles for our flights.

If that is the case I would see us all taking a hair cut. The companies can only pay out or extend for so long. If it goes into the summer, we all will take a cut. Not since the 30s which I know most were not around for.
Heres hoping it doesnt get that bad. But I am prepared to loose all my DVC points for this year.

Just saw this on the FB group page (check out the thread):

Question: I have Canadian discount tickets that we were going to use this year. If I decide to go next year instead, can I use air miles to pay for the difference? I’m onyx but never used personal shopper before.

Answer: Air miles told me yesterday that once the parks are officially closed, April 3rd (when we were supposed to go) I can call back and they will give me directions where to send the Disney tickets to. Once they receive them they will give me my full air miles back. Once you get you let air miles back you could rebuy the tickets for how many miles they are next year

But...I just saw this on the AM site:

What should I do if I’m holding Disneyland California Resort or Walt Disney World Florida tickets issued by AIR MILES that I cannot use?
Disneyland California: Please note that tickets are currently valid until December 31, 2020. Until March 31, 2020, cancellation requests for Disneyland California tickets redeemed prior to March 5, can be submitted by returning tickets to AIR MILES in order for us to process a refund with the Supplier and subsequently credit Miles to AIR MILES Collector Accounts.
Walt Disney World Florida: Please note that tickets are currently valid until December 31, 2020. Until March 31, 2020, cancellation requests for Walt Disney World Florida tickets redeemed prior to March 5 that are NOT through “My Disney Experience” can be submitted by returning tickets to AIR MILES in order for us to process a refund with the Supplier and subsequently credit Miles to AIR MILES Collector Accounts.
Alternatively, if your Walt Disney World Florida tickets have been connected to their “My Disney Experience,” these are not eligible for a refund; however, please note tickets are currently valid until December 31, 2020. Guests can make changes themselves to further extend their dates on MyDisneyExperience.com or via the My Disney Experience app.
