Weekend Point's

Living in the UK I normally visit the DVC for minimum 1 week normally 2 week's. I can't believe the difference in cost's between staying the entire trip in DVC compared with a hotel stay at the weekend.
I mention this due to other post's made in another topic.
Even though the point cost is so big I'm not sure if I would like the disruption during my stay.

Any view's or report's anyone.

If you are working to maximize your point utilization, then whether to use points on weekends is an important consideration. There is certainly some inconvenience with a move to a different resort which should be considered.
We used to try to reserve the weekends with cash nights, but finally just bought more points and now enjoy the stay on points. Enjoy!

The weekend cost is clearly high in comparison to weekday. For extended trips (which we want at least once a year) we do use points on weekends but find the most economical way is to go 12 nights at once--arrive on a Sun and leave on a Fri; that way you have only two weekend point days and 10 weekday point days.

I do the same thing as dsruba, 12 night stays that include two weekend nights. You need to look at the stay as a week at a time and not get so hung up on the weekend point costs. When I bought, the sales person always pointed out week or two week long stays and the points required.

I couldn't possibly imagine moving out for the weekend just to save points, and I am in a Grand Villa at OKW that costs alot of points on the weekends. I didn't have to buy more points to cover the weekends as mentioned earlier, I knew right away that I couldn't be bothered with moving or otherwise not paying points for the weekend.

Creeping socialism was seen hundreds of years ago when James Madison said: "I believe there are more instances of the abridgement of the freedom of the people by gradual and silent encroachments of those in power than by violent and sudden usurpations."

I'll cast a 3rd vote for the 12 night stay. That's exactly what we are doing this year. I ran the numbers and it's the most efficient use of points that I could come up with. Using a 2BR at OKW during Dream season (30 points weekdays, 73 points weekends):
Stay 1 to 5 nights - average 30 points per night
6 nights - average 37.2 points per night
7 nights - average 42.3 points per night
8 nights - average 40.75 points per night
9 nights - average 39.6 points per night
10 nights - average 38.6 points per night
11 nights - average 37.8 points per night
12 nights - average 37.2 points per night
13 nights - average 39.9 points per night
14 nights - average 42.3 points per night
15 nights - average 41.5 points per night

So the best deal (of course) is to stay 5 nights. But the next best thing (other than paying cash for weekends or moving) is a tie between 6 nights and 12 nights. Just my crude analysis of the weekend point situation.

We always look at the cost as a week, so never really consider the weekend unless we have to save points for one reason or another. Our 2001 use year will be light on points since we had to borrow 154 from 2001 for an exchange we are doing to Hawaii, so we are booking our trip a little more creatively for next January. We plan to do a 1 BR for Fri, and Sat. night followed by a 2 BR for Sun-Thursday nights and back to the one bedroom for Fri-Sat again. That means our guests will be with us only Sun to Fri, but it saves points for us and still gets us more than a week. :) Because we always stay at OKW (our home), we can do a 2BR lock off and not have to move during our stay as long as we make this arrangement with MS at the 11 month window. :)

We didn't have enough points for a weekend stay so we are taking the opportunity to go elsewhere (Cypress Gardens area) and see some things we've never seen before.

There were times when we did have the points but had to move anyway because the rooms were not available. You just do what you have to do; it's an adventure, not that big of a deal.

Cheers :)

I just spent quite a bit of time playing with my reservations for 2002... I settled on arriving Saturday - staying 6 nights and leaving Friday. Not what I would like to do - however, to stay one more night would have been 100 points! (2 BR)

Our choices are - cut back on room size (like above, say goodbye to our guests), stay somewhere else, or borrow points. good thing I have some time to decide! :D

If we did stay longer - I think we would start out at the smaller - off site place and move to OKW to finish the vacation.

This year we will be staying 6 nights and do not want to spend the extra points on that Saturday night. We will stay at All Star Movies in 3 rooms on Sat. and then move to our GV at OKW for the rest of our trip. Since Sat is our fly in day, we'll just let the kids swim and get an early start on Sun. We will just use our overnight bags on Sat and unpack when we get to OKW. Just an idea!
