We started doing 14 day trips 4 years ago. Our trips started at 8 days and we have just kept adding over the years. Honestly, if we could stay a month we would. For us, the longer stay makes it a totally different more relaxed trip. Resort time, waterparks, no rushing to the parks etc.
Basically, cost wise, we started driving down quite a few years ago, and slowly started making the vacation longer by simply not having flight\travel costs. As a family of 4, we save roughly $1500 alone. We also usually stay moderate so honestly, the only additional cost to stay longer is the room - add in free dining bounce backs and 14 days at Disney costs less than a week at the Jersey shore, lol.
