"You have such a pretty face"...What have people said to you re your weight?

You know when you hear something like..."You have such a pretty face"...the unspoken part that you still hear is..."Its a shame that your overweight", or FAT!
Let me start off by saying we can all say the wrong thing sometimes. Saying it without thinking--realiziing too late that you goofed. Sometimes it's well-meaning and not meant to offend.
A few years ago, when I was working, there were occasions when a group would get-together for a work-lunch and I was never comfortable with these--I always tried to get out of them. This particular time, I wasn't going for whatever reason and one co-worker (nice person with good intentions) said to me "why don't you come, there'll be food there". I smiled and said no thanks, I still wouldn't be going etc. OK...so what I'm thinking with a sense of humor is...yeah like the big girl's gonna change her mind...FOOD...hhhhuuummmm yum...grab the feedbag...where's the chow?!?!? So maybe I took it the wrong way--but that's how I felt at the time. What are some of your experiences with this?--Whether you said it or had it said to you??

I always feel funny at a buffet restaurant. I feel if I go up twice, people are looking at me, saying to themselves, "she certainly doesn't need to go up again!" Or, they're watching to see how much I pile on my plate! LOL!

I know exactly what you mean. I hate the "you have such a pretty face" thing too.

I always seem to get the "your hair looks nice" type comments especially when I'm really dressed up even though I don't really do anything special to my hair. I know they just want to say something nice but can't think of anything else since my figure doesn't exactly generate positive comments.

One guy I knew in high school told me that even though I was fat he didn't care because I had big boobs. In college the same thing happened to my close friend who was quite large but had, as a fellow male RA on our staff put it "porn star boobs"

When I was a teenager one of my mum's friends said Catherine would be beautiful if she lost weight!! I don't know what was worse the friend saying it in the first place or my mum telling me!!

Rhonda you are not on your own with the buffet scenario! I have left places still hungry because I was too embarassed to go and get more food! NOT anymore!!!

I'm LOL here, because I NEVER go up for seconds at a buffet. I just ask DH to pick up a few extra things while he's up there.

I hate it when you step on those electronic talking scales and before it announces your weight it says...

"One at a time please."
