Your Best of 2010

Well since we are all done with the holidays and have started a new year it is time to take one final look back at 2010. This was fun last year so I thought we should carry on the tradition. This was quite difficult looking back over the numerous shots taken from 2010 to pick just 12 but it was enlightening to see your progress over the year. So here are the rules from last year.

Post one picture from each month if you have them. If you don't have one from each month just post 12 of your favorites from the year. Keep them to photos shot in '09. These may not be my best technical shots but the ones that mean the most.

January: This started the year off well with my first usable capture of the Hitchhiking Ghost in HM.

February: I realized that this was a very slow month for pictures.

March: I wanted to do more shots with my tripod this year. Did not happen enough so I will try again this year.

April: From Disneyland Bugs Land

May: The Tour de France riders came to town in the final leg of the Tour of California.

June: I really like this wide shot of the now defunct Maliboomer at California Adventure.

July: My oldest DD was awarded her Silver Award in Girl Scouts.

August: We took a trip up the California coast and this was a breathtaking view of Mcway Falls in Big Sur.

September: Saw us back at Disneyland.

October: This year I have really been working on my flash photography. This is a shot of my youngest DD making it appear that it was window light.

November: From our local Civil War Reenactment.

December: Another flash shot using an off camera softbox.

I got most of the months covered but didn't have one actually shot in each of the 12 months so I picked 12 of my favorites for the year.

Here goes:

Shot in January at Gifford Pinchot State Park

Shot in February in my back yard

Shot in March at the Middle Creek Wildlife Management Area. Snow goose migration. This day is was estimated 80,000 snow geese were present.

Shot in April at my brother's place. He was filling his one fountain.

Shot in May at a friend's farm

Shot in June in one of my flower beds

Shot in July also in one of my flower beds

Shot in August in my yard

No particular favorite from September. This was actually shot in May of 2010 at the Gettysburg battlefield on Little Round Top

Shot in October at the Sebastion Inlet State Park in Florida.

No favorites from November. This one was also shot in May at the Memorial Day Rodeo in Wellsville PA

Shot in December when I went with some friends to cut down their Christmas tree and to get some shots of their son Wyatt in the process.

January:

This was probably my favorite from the month. Mainly because of the story associated with it (click pic).

February:

A shot I took of the TV (if that counts). But that's me to the right of the little girl; probably looking at my camera. This was one of the commercials for ESPN the Weekend.

March:

Tough month to choice my favorite from. This was from my first tripod outing at Magic Kingdom. I now see why many people LOVE shooting the parks at night. The pictures are just amazing.

April:

Space Shuttle Discovery Night Launch. This was taken from the parking lot right outside of my apartment building. I was lucky enough to have other interesting elements in the shot (building... cars coming and going... etc.). Let alone being happy I was able to pull off a shot that you can't just do over.

May:

For this, I was determined to show what it's sort of like to wait for Autograph FastPasses during Star Wars Weekends.

I was kinda hoping the TV image would've came out clear. But I like how the bright white really gives this a Twilight Zone feel. I purposely stood at the back to attempt this one.

Although I was really happy with my Wizarding World of Harry Potter pics from this month; it's just something about this pic from back home (VA Beach) that I really love.

Saw this little guy right outside my front door, so I decided to grab the camera. I was VERY surprised how this eventually turned out.

I didn't get a whole lot of time to get out and shoot. Mostly just the kids and a few other events. Here are the 12 that I like best from 2010....

Fanuiel Hall, Boston:

My high school's basketball team playing at the TD Garden in Boston for the state semi-finals (they went on later in the week to win the Division 2 State Championship) YAY!

Oldest DS' first visit to Fenway Park:

Bronx Zoo:

2010 Massachusetts Down Syndrome Buddy Walk. Over 3,000 walkers raised over $325,000. The MDSC used this shot for the cover of their 4th quarter Newsletter then went out to over 5,000 families in Massachusetts.

Oooh. I want to play. Now I don't have one exactly from every month, but here are my favorite 12.

January - Not really a favorite from this month (I'm already deviating from the shot of the month), so here's one I shot in March at MK.

February - We had one of the biggest snows ever in this part of Texas in 2010. Here's our neighbors house across the street.

March - My first solo trip to WDW, so I had lots of time to just walk around and shoot. Here's one of the Liberty Belle that I really like.

April - Not a favorite from this month, so here's one of my daughter's best friends. She's a drum major and I caught this image of her just before she went on the field. I really like the quiet determination in her demeanor.

May - I shoot a lot in my hometown of Grapevine. Here is one of my all-time favorites.

June - This one is from July and our family trip to Oregon and Washington. This is a shot from Ecola State Park on the Oregon Coast. It's a beautiful place, especially when the fog roles in.

July - Another photo from our West Coast trip. Got to shoot this from the roof of our hotel in Seattle.

August - Got the chance to shoot inside a Fort Worth instution - The Railhead Head Smokehouse.

September - Another shot not taken in the month. This one is from October and from the train yard in Grapevine. I like the sun and reflection of this shot a lot.

October - One of my favorites from the Fort Worth zoo.

November - This was the only good shot I got the whole night at the Grapevines Christmas Parade. Don't know who the he is, but this little guy entertained all of us that night. He made the evening for me.

December - We took our nieces on their very first trip to WDW. It was also their first flight. I took a ton of pictures, but this shot of them with my daughter is my favorite.

July: My oldest DD was awarded her Silver Award in Girl Scouts.

Just wanted to congratulate your daughter on earning her Silver Award! This is harder to earn than the Eagle Scout for boys (which my son earned) and rarely gets the same recognition. I was a Girl Scout and I think this is a great honor. Congratulations to your beautiful daughter and your family!!!

Thank you, I will pass that along to her. We have been very proud of her for continuing this far. We are trying to get her to pursue her gold award after a short break.

i got my gold award in 2000. it was a ton of work (we had 3 girls in our troop at the time), but i like to think that it helped get me into the college that i wanted to go to! i think what pushed us to do it was when a girl in our troop told us that her sister got a job out of college after her employer saw that she had received a gold award. not many people know about it, but it definitely can help in the future!

These things are always hard. My pictures tend to clump. I have a couple of really good vacations with lots of nice shots, some studio shots with lots of nice shots, a few other outings with some good shots, and lots of time passes with nothing worth sharing. I'll make it fit the best I can.
