I've been with the township almost 28 years now, I get 25 vacation days, 3 personal days, and 15 sick days per year, and the 13 Holidays.

At retirement the township will buy back a % of time that we have accumulated in unused sick time. A co-worker of mine that retired last May walked out with about $14,000 in unused sick time, he had been with the township 40 years. A nice little nest egg if you ask me!!!

I know what you mean aobut the Government jobs. I have two siblings that work for the University in Madison. At retirement, they can use their unpaid sick time to buy health insurance into retirement. Plus, their pension starts at 55 I think.

My pension is awful. The company puts in 11.5% but that doesn't go right to me. I figured out my return on the investment and it was like 2 or 3%. We have a Defined Benefit Plan and it rewards older workers, not the ones who stay long.

If I take two of our employees, one at age 25 and one at 55, both making the same amount of money and staying 5 years (we have portability), the 55 year old's return on our deposits is like 30% per year. The 25 year old's is actually a negative return. :sad2:

I read your post, then read where you are from. MICHIGAN... figures. That's where my Jeff is from.

(ps. it's not the heat that gets you... it's the heat day after day after day after day, usually the majority of the year. We're having a weird year here for 2007 though, I tell ya. I'm a little scared. Usually if we have a really cold winter like this, the summer that pretty much takes over spring and fall is usually even hotter... what is spring? what is fall? LOL)

I knew there was a reason I liked ya.......... But having a Spouse from Michigan..........You should have heard this weather diatribe many, many times before !!! :scared1:

That is where my DH Dale is from as well...

Ok Lorri I understand you do not like Titanic.but if you want to clear the overbooking situation

we can talk about this scene that kept going through our heads before our last cruise since it was our first time to be on deck2......

the water is filling the lower decks and Rose is trying to free her man from the shackles that are binding him......she does and they race toward a stairwell......they are running faster faster as the water is outpacing them....ON one of the decks is the child.....and then the man comes and takes him to the cabin.....

Ummmm...could you please describe the steamy car scene instead??popcorn::

Yea, but we are saving up for "The Trip of a Lifetime!!!" :rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2:

But according to a newspaper ad I just saw, the Trip of a Lifetime is the one they're having...to the Holy Land...this October.

I thought you said you were going on the Repo Cruise, not to the Holy Land.

Oh BELIEVE ME I HAVE.
Did you not read the part about me having to wear socks, shoes and jacket all the time in my own home?

Conjunction junction, what's your function? Hooking up words and phrases and clauses in complex sentences like....

Lolly, lolly, lolly, get your adverbs here, Father, Son and Lolly selling adverbs here...

and for Rex Grossman: "He made a connection in the other direction and the crowd started shouting out interjections. Aw, you threw the wrong way. Darn, you just lost the game. Yeah, I'm for the other team"

I can sing them all. Without the help of Google.

I'm just a bill, yes I'm only a bill and I'm sitting here on capital hill.:lmao:

Disney IS the Holy Land. I tithe 10% of my income to Mickey Mouse.

Yeah, but I think the people on this board make more pilgrimages to WDW and DCL than the Middle East. :rotfl2:

Thanks for the sympathy..........

Nope.... Antartica is Way South of here............No penguins around here........Cold enough for Polar Bears though

We get the hot, humid weather also......... was 106 the day Laura and I got married......... :cool2:
Its the temperature extremes that get ya..........

And being able to drive on icy roads..........is a cool thing...........kinda like ice skating............but with seat heaters :rolleyes1 LOL !!!!

Mark

Mark...
That was your nerves .......it wasn't really 106

It could have been the father in law with the shotgun too......

Really?
Do tell. :rolleyes1

Its a really long story..........much better to tell it up on deck 9 with a frozen adult beverage.......... IN REALLY WARM WEATHER !!!!! LOL

Mickey Jail is very, very real.............. Wasn't my fault...........I'm innocent I tell ya !!!!

I could retire now if I wanted since I have the time in, but the problem is, I don't have the age in yet. In order to get my health benefits to take into retirement with me, I need at least 20 years service AND attain the age of 55, I still have 3 more years to go for that. I could go out on Disabilty Pension with ALL benefits, if my knees get so bad that I can't continue, but my goal is to make it to 55 and get my FULL pension!!!

Thank you - we think he's cute too! He turned 12 at exactly 8:08pm - while I was in labor DH told me I had to wait until "Real Stories of the Highway Patrol" was over before he came out!:lmao:

First of all ... happy belated b-day Joe. Second, this reminded me to tell you all about when my 2nd DS was born. DS#2 was born at 8:03pm and it's a GOOD thing he was born then because at 8:05 they started announcing the starting line up for the Baseball All Star Game held at Fenway Park and I pretty much lost DH for the rest of the night :rotfl2:

Never seen that movie about the iceberg and the boat - never will as long as he is in it and it's directed by James Cameron.

I'm sure Buckifan did not find it amusing  , but did you catch that during the NCAA National College Football Championship Game, the OSU Marching Band halftime show featured the theme from Titanic "My Heart Will Go On" and the marching drill included the formation of a sinking ship into a giant blue tarp? At the time, OSU was losing something like 31-7 to Florida.:sad2:

Mark, just tell us now. You know not all of us are going to be on deck 9 at the same time. And you've heard how that game goes where you tell one person and they tell another and they tell another and how the story is completely different by the time it's been passed around? You don't want to go there do you?
:rotfl:
