DVC Point Charts for 2011 - Post chart release discussion begins on Pg 14

Please add me to the list of folks anxiously awaiting the release of information on the 2011 points. We are booked on the DCL Dream inaugural cruise and want to see how many points it will take to add a few days pre & post cruise.

Maybe DVC will give us a little holiday gift and release them this week or possibly next week. Come on Jim Lewis...throw me a little Christmas present my way...:thumbsup2

That would require the Grinch's (Lewis) heart to grow.:rotfl:

Whatever changes are made, rest assured, it was in DVD's words: "In the best interest of our members"
Most will probably be unhappy, some will be happy, some will be unaffected, some may not even know that it happened.

What could really happen to the upcoming points charts? I thought the only things that would probably happen is shaving more points off fri + sat and put it on the other days. Could they drastically change the seasons? Not looking to start an argument but just looking for things they might change.
Merry Christmas :santa:

The can definately change the seasons as well. One of the most prominent beliefs is that the first two weeks of December are a major target. Remember the bottom line is that the point charts before and after must balance to each other and that there are caps on the maximum amount of points that can be reallocated each year. Beyond that, they can reallocate anyway they desire. Overtime (because of the cap per year it couldn't be done all at once) they could even eleminate the seasons and weekend variances, would it be likely to happen, no, but there are no restrictions preventing it.

I would agree with you except I would add the words "who post here" after Most and some. :teeth:

Trying to plan and getting very frustrated that they are not released.
But Merry Christmas my fellow DVC'ers!!!!

If it is anything like last year when they came out late January, they will first raise the point price, lower their price incentives, declare minimum add-ons are raised to 100, and then a few days later issue new charts reallocting points so that the time you usually go will cost more points requiring you to buy 100 point add-on at a high cost to make up the difference. Czar Lewis seems to be adroit at doing things like that.

Existing members can (and could) add on less than 100 points at a time and IMO the re-allocation was relatively minor. The system was never designed for small point memberships and I suspect the lower minimums for initial purchases had more to do with sales and the economy than a change in this opinion. I would venture a guess that most people that found the re-allocations leave them a few points short (easily solved for years by banking/borrowing) hold small contracts, or at least smaller than the prior minimums of 270 and/or 160.

I think I am once again being disappointed by DVC's lack of professional management. The lack of timely and straightforward communication with it's owners is horrendous. The changing of policy (or point charts) with extremely little notice to the owners/members seems to be routine practice.

Why would they target the first two weeks of Dec? Everytime I have been during that time period, its been relatively dead. In fact up until Dec 22 or 23 its always fairly slow in my experiences. Has something changed?

I wonder if they will go after Marathon week?

For DVC, the first 2 weeks of December is almost always soldout far in advance. Members like to go for the Christmas activities. I'm not sure the fact that it's the lowest point season makes a big difference, I went that time even before I was a member.

Demand for DVC units doesn't necessarily track park attendance---and the point charts have to reflect the former, not the latter.

Have you noticed the 2011 CRUISE charts posted on the member site.

There were large variances, but the number of points required for a category 11 - 3 day cruise in value season, had gone down!!

That category went from 67 to 49 points.

I know the category 11 rooms are...well...not that deluxe...but dh and I have never been on a cruise and only have 100 points!!

We can now take a cruise for both of us on 1 year's points (if we decide to do that.) Its still pretty hard to give up 2 - 5 day trips to BWV - standard for one 3 day cruise! We'll see.

You might not remember last January to which I was referring. BLT owners had been purchasing for about four months using the 2009 chart to evaluate what was needed and of course would not even be able to use their points until BLT opened in August 2009. In January, the following happened in sequence: DVD put into effect a price hike for points and at the same time put into effect a new rule for BLT (and only BLT) that minimum add-ons would be 100 points. About a week later, DVD released the new point charts. The net effect for many BLT owners, all of whom had bought at least the minimum 160 points and many of whom bought enough for Sun to Thurs trips to get not just studios but 1BRs or better found their point requirements for those trips had increased 12% or more. For many of them it was something they could heal with a 25 point add on but the 100 point minimum at BLT killed that idea. In other words, they had bought in reliance on the 2009 charts which sales reps used to encourage sales, were not warned of any upcoming point chart change (and that includes people who were buying just two weeks before the change was announced), and before they ever could even use their points Disney raised the price, put in the 100 point minimum add-on and then changed the point charts. Following the outcry by BLT owners, DVD's first reaction was basically "up yours." However, after about a month it finally relented (possibly out of fear of lawsuits) and returned the add-on minimum to 25. To me it was the worst demonstration of mangement callousness I had ever seen DVD commit and went a long way to destroying any "trust" you could have of the exisitng management.

we are also waiting to see if they changed the point charts for 2011. Shouldn't it be available by now? :confused3

You would think but the fact that it is not is what is leading a lot of us to wonder if changes are indeed coming.

The first reservations that will go into 2011 can be booked on January 26th so they will have to be released within the next few weeks.

It was Jan 21st, 2009 when the point charts were noticed "leaked" online. Shortly after they were released, they were "hidden" online. I think it was a few days later they made them "Official".:surfweb:
