Thanks was wondering what the rules for, number of gifts per person/ per cabin and as we're at sea for 14 days is there a designated day when everyone swaps or do you just make deliveries when you feel like it?

SW

I think it's better to just do it when you feel like it, or when you have a few spare minutes. The number of gifts per cabin is down to you .... one per cabin or one per person, or more than one per cabin / person.

I was thinking of have the buses start picking up at around 9:00 at the praktik barcelona and load up. Then going to the praktik rambla by 9:20 and load up. Then head to the port around 10:00. I look like it is only a 10 to 15 min drive to the port.

Stephen

That sounds perfect ...... great to be at the port early to soak up the atmosphere ( and check for an upgrade :wizard: )

thanks for your speedy reply

Thought I'd post a picture of our FE...as you can see it hangs on the fish outside your stateroom.

This will be my first Disney cruise and i've been seeing lots of pictures of peoples decorated doors. i'm starting to think about what to include on mine.

Yours looks great.

I'm looking forward to making my fish extender too, and i've been looking around the boards for inspiration.

How wide can i make it so it hangs in that narrow bit of wall beside the door?

I am going to do a suggested delivery date so that the gifts are distributed each day of the cruise. My goal is that not everyone does delivery on the same date... I read about that happening and people were disappointed...

Wespent 3 days in Barcelona after our first TA and i thought I wouldshare what Marika and rio enjoyed most (they were 9 and 11 at the time). The top 3 in order were:

Parque Guell
Pueblo Espanola
Sagrada Fmailia (with English langauge tour)

Pueblo Espanola now has as scavenger hunt kit you can get for 5 euro which sounds like it would be really fun for the kids too. It is available in English.

i've done some digging around the boards and found that 8 inches wide is about right for a fish extender.

Better get my craft box out and start making

SW

I don't think we need to know that. After doing this on the panama cruise buses from Disney land I'm not planning to fill the bus to capacity. I'm hoping to leave 10 to 15 seats for luggage storage and every one will have a seat.

:woohoo::thumbsup2 Sounds perfect!!
That sounds good timing - as long as Angie, Dennis and PJ get up in good time!!!

We have learned to sleep in since being retired, but.... on cruise morning we are up and ready!! :dance3::yay:

Our DD and her DH are cruising on the Magic Saturday, celebrating 10 years of marriage. She has not been able to sleep through the night for over 2 weeks from the excitement. :woohoo: We raised her right! :lmao::rotfl:

I found this on Tripadvisor, but have no idea how far Barcelona have got with providing it. I wonder if you sent an email off to the Barcelona powers that be if they would reply and tell you.

Thanks for the great info Granmaz. From the site, it looks like things are pretty well set up. I'll follow up on the lead.

This past year I was worried about our kids being overly excited about the cruise... So we didn't tell them. Matter of fact, they thought that we were spending the week with the grandparents, and it was a day trip to see the shuttle launch... They didn't figure it out until we were about to unload luggage. Glenn and I thought it was priceless... Our daughter, Becca, got over it very fast. Stephen (DS - 12) was a bit miffed... Took him about 3 days to get over it... This time, they are well aware, and are excited. I am sure that the weeks before will be sheer hell... :)

Well, I'll be heading back to Grandma's shortly. This may be the last week she'll need me there, which is awesome news for her to get her independence back! It's going to be a bitter-sweet moment when I pack my car up for the last time. It was really nice to be at home for a few days this past week. Seven months is a lonnnnggg time to be a way from your own home, friends, and life. I still have no regrets though to have helped her!

So a few weeks ago we did Chinese food for lunch. My fortune was "You wil soon cross a great ocean on a fantastic trip"...

:woohoo: I'm sure you laughed with excitment!

It's in the works.....

I cannot express how appreciative I am for the time you've invested in our site. THANK YOU!! :flower3: :worship: I *KNOW* it's a LOT of work to take this on!

One week from today we will be sailing (Mexican Riviera) on the Sapphire Princess. So we will be packing this weekend....

Oh how exciting! You are do doubt single-digit-dancing all this week! I hope you have a terrific time, and I'm looking forward to hearing about it!

....There was no end to the trouble we found her in on our recent cruise!....It took us awhile to figure out where the bar charges were coming from...

IMG_2563.jpg

But we finally found the source!

Too funny! :rotfl:

It's a happy day for us!! :cool1: We booked our air!! We are pretty much traveling around the world to get there, but oh well. Minneapolis does not have any direct flights to BCN, so we are actually flying out of Philadelphia.....We just got back from a four night Wonder cruise on Thursday. It was just my oldest DD and myself....We really had a great time....

Krista, that's awesome you did a mother-daughter cruise! What a great memory for you both. On my last cruise, it was a 3-generation cruise full of "first times" for my (at the time) 77 year-old grandmother and lifetime memories for us all!

....I am Sooooooooooooo looking forwrd to winter games, hope it cools down quick.....

Me too! I love watching so many of the winter sports!

...I'm into crafting so will certainly sign up for the fish extender exchange....

If you're crafty, you may not need more inspiration, but it's still fun to see the creative minds out there on the Homemade FE Gifts thread!

This will be my first Disney cruise and i've been seeing lots of pictures of peoples decorated doors. i'm starting to think about what to include on mine.....How wide can i make it so it hangs in that narrow bit of wall beside the door?

In the event you haven't read this yet, know that you cannot use adhesive on the doors. Some options are to use magnetic sheets or put small magnets on top of your decoration to hold it.

I see you already found that 8" is the best width to make your Fish Extender. That's what I used for all of them that I made, and it was just right. One other measurement you'll be interested in is the "drop" when you hang it so it clears your room number when hung on the wall from your fish. Either tie your string/ribbon onto the rod after you arrive, or plan on a 7" drop from the center of the "V" (where it hangs on the fish) to the rod itself. Hope that's clear enough to understand!

....is there a designated day when everyone swaps (Fish Extender gifts) or do you just make deliveries when you feel like it?

Its when ever you feel really. Its best for everyone not to do it on the first day just because it makes it boring for the rest of the cruise but its when ever you have time.

I think it's better to just do it when you feel like it, or when you have a few spare minutes....

On our last cruise, we did not assign specific days for delivery either, which was nice because there was no pressure to meet your date. In fact, I ended up making deliveries over two days because it was easier for us to make two smaller periods of time to make deliveries as opposed to carving out a chunk of time. Of course whatever Sue decides on is what I'll roll with. You can't satisfy everyone afterall, and that's okay!! :)

How wonderful! Congrats to them, and a pat on the back to you!

HAVE A GREAT WEEK EVERYONE!

I found that I can get euros from my bank, bank of america, but I don't want to bother getting them from boa if it's a bad deal. But how do I know what is a good exchange rate?? I've traveled overseas, but it's always been an all-inclusive style, so I've never had to worry about this.

I use BofA as well. I think they are about the norm in what they get (bid/ask). I am just watching the exchange rate to see if the Dollar gets any better as we have been hovering around 0.70 Euros for $1 but a year ago it was 0.80 Euros for $1.

Also know that BofA is partners with banks outside the US and will not charge ATM fees at BNP Paribas (France) & Barclays (United Kingdom) - Use your ATM card or check card within our Global ATM Alliance in the countries shown with no fees.

Here is some info from the BofA FAQs page:
Using your Check Card or ATM Card in international countries

Will I get a better exchange rate using my Check Card or ATM Card?
  • Check Cards may give you a better exchange rate than you'll receive at currency exchange bureaus.

What are the fees for using a Check Card or ATM Card in a foreign country?
  • Withdrawals, deposits, transfers, payments and balance inquiries made at ATMs in foreign countries outside of the ATM Global Alliance will be charged a $5.00 fee.
  • In addition, an International Transaction Fee will be charged for ATM Card and Check Card transactions made for foreign purchases or ATM cash withdrawals in currency other than U.S. Dollars, regardless of whether or not the transaction occurred at an ATM in a country covered in the ATM Global Alliance. The International Transaction Fee will be 3% of the U.S. Dollar amount for each converted purchase or 1% of the U.S. Dollar amount for each converted ATM cash withdrawal. This International Transaction Fee will appear as a separate item on your banking statement for each international transaction.

Additionally, I have learned from past trips - make sure your PIN is only 4 digits. Given the last statement above - I try to use my Capital One Credit Card as much as possible outside of the US and bring cash/travelers checks with me to avoid the International Transaction Fee.

Based on our various posts, I've compiled a Barcelona Hotel Roll Call List. If you have updates or additions, please feel free to PM me. I'll keep my eye on the thread's posts as well.

You'll see that I sorted by DIS Name, yet primarily color coded by hotel. The last column is also color coded by arrival date, regardless of which hotel. If you're color-blind, you have the text for back-up. :upsidedow

Perhaps this can help stir conversation between people who may want to consider sharing transportation from the airport or meet up with new and old friends in the city! :goodvibes

Great idea and thank you for doing this. It will definitely help to arrange dis meets at the different hotels or a central location for some of them.

Hi,
I think we'll be booking this tomorrow...as long as Allseas has two cat 10s left. We haven't been on the Magic since the EB repo in 2005, so very excited as you can imagine. I need...hotel info, someplace cheap to stay Friday night...where to buy alcohol Sat am to take on board...REAS info. It will be me, my DH, DS (20 and autistic), and my mom. Excursions...any feedback on good ones on this cruise ? DH will want to scuba dive as much as possible. Looking forward to chatting w/ all of you.

Hopefully Welcome wide awake.

See the list above for hotels, the Praktik group of hotels is popular for this group.

I think that REAS is gone for 2010. Can anyone confirm?

There has been discussion on BYOB options in Barcelona, others will provide those details.
