Ignore. Just practicing posting pics

I could not ignore any longer. With the help of the in-laws, I came across these brochures from 1985 and 1986; check out the prices!

I heard that Disney is growing new hotel rooms for the CR in blue tanks at River Country.

:rotfl2: You nearly made me spill my coffee and burst DH's eardrum laughing this morning when I read this! That could be another mystery solved. Now we know what the blue tanks are for.

J/K that is the old Coachmen trailer display.

The infrastructure for this display is still there. You can see it as you head toward the bus stop from Pioneer Hall.

TCD
Darn I was hoping I'd be the first to get that one! I remember when there was a Fleetwood sittin' there.

Could this be the solution to the mystery building by Pioneer Hall that TCD found?

Is NJRRK on to something here?

What is this Campfire Snack Bar?

This sign is pointing toward the Pioneer Hall building.

Was the campfire sing-a-long ever performed somewhere other than its current location?

TCD

Looks like the puzzle pieces are coming together. Nice investigative work NJRRK! Those Where's Waldo skills have come in handy here! I don't remember the Campfire Snack Bar or the sing-a-long being anywhere else. You learn something new everyday.

I wish we could get tickets at those prices in July! If we got those ticket prices along with the 35% discount on a site as noted in the FW letter in a previous post....we would never leave!

I also miss the Fantasy Faire. There are pics in an earlier post. Also miss the Disney World is Your World show at the Tomorrowland Theatre. While I'm missing things....I also miss the Kid's of the Kingdom in the castle show.

BTW....glad you decided to ignore us. :thumbsup2

Here are a couple that we haven't seen yet.

My Niece has a bunch of photos from family trips. She is going through them and scanning things for me. Hopefully she can find some good stuff.

You may find this hard to believe, but I've got a couple of shots of the Castle decorated like this too! :rotfl: Thanks for sharing yours with us! :thumbsup2

What a great niece!

How did they get all that pink and decorations off the Castle overnight?

I hope to have more coming! My niece is an even bigger Disney nut than I am (if that is possible to quantify). Her mom and dad (LLBro and his DW) were huge picture takers. I've got a great one of him coming! I asked her to look through all the stuff from our old family trips. It will be exciting to see what she finds.

For the skyway debate that is going on...

Here is a picture from the skyway in 1986...

You can see the Tomorrowland station in the background.
Where the rode turns is going to be just off to the left.

My Dad was a member of the Magic Kingdom Club. We were able to stay at The Contemporary wings for 6 nights/7 days, meals, and tickets for $500 in 1980 for our honeymoon. That sounds really cheap by todays prices, but you have to remember there was only 1 park and that was the days of the E tickets. So you didn't have unlimited access to all of the rides and 4 parks.

I also have pictures of the 25th birthday cake. My parents decided that we needed to go to WDW for the 25th because we were there for the opening of WDW. They paid for 3 "cabins", not the new style, for my sisters, my family, and themselves. Mom called and got some fantastic deal and when she called back later to make the final payment, no one had ever heard of the package that she got. I guess that was the Disney Magic at work.

Shafke- Was this photo taken from the skyway? If not, do you know where the photographer was when it was taken?

What are we looking at here, DisCamper? Where is this cleared land? I see a lake in the background. It looks smaller than Bay Lake and the Seven Seas Lagoon. And that island doesn't look like Discovery Island. Where is this?

TCD

That is Bay Lake and Discovery Island. Think that start of the Dredging of Seven Seas Lagoon in the top right photo shows a dredge boat

That is Bay Lake and Discovery Island

Really?

Both look a lot smaller than they do now. Was Bay Lake expanded? I know Discovery Island ultimately was.

So, where is this cleared area?

It's not the Fort, is it?

I've seen the photo with the two guys in hats. I'm almost certain that the "X" marks the center of the Castle.

READ THIS

Given that central Florida is primarily a wetlands region, construction crews faced a variety of challenges with relocating water while not affecting the local environment. Construction crews built more than 50 miles of levees and canals around the property to maintain levels and quality of the local fresh water while draining areas where construction would take place. This control system, which functions automatically based on water levels and without electricity, helps to minimize flooding without removing water from the area. Even bodies of water that would remain on the site needed to be cleaned and made safer for recreational use. Bay Lake was drained of its water and cleaned of muck. Construction workers removed more than seven million cubic yards of dirt from an adjacent area to create a man-made lagoon, named Seven Seas Lagoon. Sand from beneath the removed muck was used to create beaches around the lagoon. Once Bay Lake and the Seven Seas Lagoon had been filled with water, the surrounding areas served as the setting for one of the hotels, the Polynesian Village Resort.

I don't think the island you see in that picture is discovery island, I think it's the smaller island off the CR shoreline, between the CR and the WL.

So, do you think this is the site of the Contemporary Resort, pre-canal and water bridge? It looks like it could be, and that small island would be in about the right place.

I'm almost certain that the "X" marks were the Lawn Mower Tree is going to be put
