I am all caught up reading, but have run out of time responding. I have saved the multi-quotes into a blank email. That way, if they close the thread while I am at work, I won't lose everything and can just copy and paste them with my replies into the new thread.

I am feeling a rush of achievement today .... just ordered 2 4GB memory cards and then on an impulse decision ordered an early birthday present for DH ... a compact camera. He always goes on about not having a camera to use as I tend to hog the camera, but I always said that we don't need 2 cameras. I bet I will end up pinching this new one though as it is so small and dinky.

You all know about my ipod touch indecision, well I got a new phone that has wifi, its great, I was playing on mums wifi, so I can use it as a phone but use free wi fi if I get a chance, THIS IS REALLY SAD, BUT IT MEANS i CAN POST FROM BARCELONA:confused3 is there something wrong with me:lmao:

Anyway Im :scared1:at how much the internet would cost from all the exitc places, this way its cool.
I need to try and download music into it now, that might take a while:laughing:

I woke up at 4am this morning, couldn't get back to sleep, so I got up, finished my new peasant blouse for my pirate wench costume, printed out some iron ons for our Micky Mouse Club tshirts, sorted through ideas for magnets.

Now I am ready for a nap, and I have to be up in an hour to get Patrick ready for work!

That's all because I am so excited to go on a cruise!!!!!! :dance3::dance3::dance3::dance3:

Some more medical issues.....this group is kind of scary....my DD was admitted to the hospital yesterday....she has a viral infection in her intestine and a serious infection in her colon....they were trying to treat it with antibiotics by mouth but it is beating her up so they put her in the hospital....doctor said she is pretty sick and will be in the hospital through the weekend.....it seems so many of us traveling have some sort of medical problem or tragedy in our lives.....thank God I do not drink......and thank God it is happening now and not 5 weeks from now since she will be staying here and taking care of the house and the pets......

Hey all!!

Heard from DCL today about tastings, and I think we have flustered them a bit...

First, they have asked that we do not add anyone else to the seminars, so if you are on a wait list, you will beed to go and book with Guest Services at boarding.

On to the reply notes...

Wine - 56 people interested - to confirm with wine manager 1 cruise prior to sailing- what are the options - $15 per person (Looks like we can have one group - but in the same email they talked about splitting wine up as they will do 7-9 total throughout the cruise. so unlikely that we will have a DIS only tasting/seminar.)

Cognac - 34 people interested – to confirm with ABM split group in 2 or 3 – 15 each - $20 per person (so, I have asked for 2 groups of 17 so that we can stay together - I hope that is OK)

Beer - 43 people interested – possible seperate seminar only for this group - $ 15 per person (seems that this is the ONLY one that will be a DIS only tasting...)

Martini - 70 people interested – to split group in two and give chance for other guests. Usually we have 2-or 3 seminars per crossing (40pax each) - $15 per person (if we go to 35 per group it doesn't afford DCL much for other passengers. I think we are better off getting into 3 groups - thoughts? We can do 25, 25, 20 if everyone is OK with that.)

Tequila - 50 people interested - to split group in two and give chance for other guests. Usually we have 2-or 3 seminars per crossing (40pax each) - $15 per person (like wine, I think we are better off being very flexible, as they have come out and said they want to be able to add other passengers to the group. So, what about 2 groups of 25?)

Drink of the day - 48 people interested – Unable to do, we don't have a seminar for this. (I have seen impromptu tastings, not sure if we can arrange this once on board or not...)

Mojito - 42 people interested – please provide menu details – is it seminar or menu? (We stumped them - so I told them it was a seminar. Waiting for feedback. I hope that we are able to do this one!)

So, after I got this, I did call and talk to Dorothy and the sheer volume of requests really shocked everyone! So, based on that I suggest we agree to do smaller groups and have them primarily DIS. This is what I will go with unless there are objections. My PM box is pretty full, so please just post to the list.

Thanks everyone!
Sue

Whatever is easiest works for us!! :)

Thanks for passing this on, Sue - much appreciated... I'm happy to go with the flow and opt for smaller groups - whatever's easiest really... :thumbsup2

That's such a shame about the DOTD.. :sad2: I think that would've been so interesting as I know nothing about making cocktails only drinking 'em... :teeth:

I am so nervous that when I go to the doctor on Thursday for my arm he is going to put me in a sling. I don't want to be in a sling for the cruise! I'm really hoping there isn't anything majorly wrong and that it's all muscles and it will heal quickly.

Fingers crossed for you!!! :wizard:

Dennis has come down with a cold.:headache: I made chicken soup from some stock I had frozen for lunch. He needs to get better quick. He has a dental appt on Thursday and then cataract surgery on Aug 30. No time to be sick in the next month!!

Hope he gets better asap!!!

Hi, Angel. You just spent a quarter-zillion dollars for a vacation, so the cost of a couple of extra cards will be a very inexpensive addition as insurance for your memories. Your camera manual can tell you how many shots you can get on a card. I have a 10-MP camera that can get about 3,000 JPEGs on an 8-GB card at maximum resolution, or 540 in RAW format. At 4 MP (medium resolution), it holds 6-13,000 depending on regular, fine or superfine compression. Most cameras you can set; 6 MP Fine is good for up to about 8 x 10 inches uncropped.

It all depends on how large a file you set your camera for -- and that is based on what size print you want, or whether you want to crop a shot by more than a hair for shape.

I took close to a thousand photos on an Alaska cruise in May, filling two 8-GB cards after I deleted a bunch! DW and I didn't get our album put together for more than a month. It has 200 or more photos, and many unique shots that didn't make the cut.

A conversation on flickr.com about how many photos on what sized cards had these notes. 1: Always have spares on vacation. 2. Consider switching to a different card each day or so. That way, if you drop your camera overboard, you won't lose everything. 3. Don't keep all the loaded cards in the same place for the same reason as #2. 4. The brand and speed don't matter much. Nobody recalled really noticing any difference. 5. Carry a spare battery, and recharge every night.

Woodman: I like your thinking, just don't know whether we'll have a little netbook to move pix to. I now have 2 8-MB, 3 4-MB, and a two and a one. May need more. I shoot RAW and use Adobe Elements, so YOU figger what grade of photophreak I am.

bob

I'm actually carrying my laptop to do the transferring on.
We always use SanDisk Ultras; tried some of the cheap ones and they either 1) just didn't work or 2) were slow to write. I shoot with a Nikon D50 SLR and sometimes (like in Alaska - bald eagles and whales) shoot 10-12 frames per second. The cheap cards just can't keep up.
I always shoot .jpg at the highest resolution. Our DD#1 shoots raw, but then she's a professional photographer! We also use Adobe Elements, unless we have something special we really want fixed up nice and then we give it to DD to do the full Adobe Photoshop treatment.

Finally just received our Cruise docs this morning! :cool1:

Feels like I was last lol???!!!!

Lyn
Nice one and no, not last - I'm still in a Doc-free zone...

No Fedex for us yet .......but on a positive note .....

WE ARE NOW INTO THE 20s !!!!!!!

and suddenly I am feeling a lot more :scared1::scared1::scared1: than :woohoo::woohoo::woohoo:

( although I am more than a little bit :yay::yay::yay: even so )
I'm feeling just the same!!!!!!! And with a side order of    thrown in for good measure...

Ours mentions OBC but doesn't state it's for fuel supplement refund and we have rebooking onboard OBC from DCL -so it's probably talking about that.
I contacted our travel agent and got an email reply stating they called and we don't have the fuel supplement refund -and they said that DCL told them NO ONE is getting fuel surcharge refunds in form of OBC on this cruise.
Our travel agent said if we have names or reservation numbers they could basically go at bat for us... but I don't have that info! It just seems like everyone else's says this- but ours.
Interesting......
Just curious- those that say it- are you all DVC? If not, did anyone who received the $100 OBC per person letter also have it stating fuel supplement refunded OBC on the documents? Trying to figure out why others state it but ours doesn't.... and why DCL is telling our TA that no one is getting it on this cruise. :confused3

we ordered our euros thru our bank on Friday- but they didn't put the order thru until Monday. They said they were getting them from a Frost bank? or something like that... (our bank is First Financial) anyway, when I picked them up today the exchange rate was 1.3731
doesn't that seem kinda high? Everything I'm finding online for currency calculators says way lower than that. What's the deal? Anyone pay that rate or close to it? Or did we get ripped off or what?

Plus it's all in 100's....... not a problem for paying for the remainder on apt and 300 euros deposit (all has to be paid in euros when we get there) but that might be a problem for other things while there.... ya think? Should I take these back and ask for small denominations? I mean I'm sitting here thinking that like here- if you went around paying everything in $100 bills... you'd have issues. Most places won't accept 50 or 100's because they don't have change for that! Or is it easy to just get small denominations at a bank in Barcelona?

And, tried to contact our "contact" for our apt about if we'd need a power converter to be able to plug things in the apt. A lot of things are provided but we'd need to like charge our laptop, camera, phone, and plug in like hair appliances. Unfortunately I don't think they speak english well- they basically said it's 220v so I should bring the converter- but then said their business guests never have problems with their laptops and mobile (phones I assume.)
So does that mean we need to bring it or not, ya think? remember, I'm trying to pack us all in carryons... so the least we have to bring the better! So it's not just throw it in -in case we need it. We need to bring it only if we NEED to bring it. KWIM?

Yes, DVC.

The rate shown on the web sites is usually the "bank rate" (bank to bank). They always charge us a worse rate - that's how they make their profit.

Your laptop and cell phone chargers will work fine; you'll still need an adapter though (just not a power converter).

One of my cruise friends has white and turquoise as her colour scheme for cruises, including her nails. It always looks so nice. But I just can't seem to do that.
That's very cool - I'm waaaay to disorganised for that. Tho' I did manage to co-ordinate my cardigan with my champagne cocktail at the Palo brunch last September... :rolleyes1

Tom

Sorry to hear this, Tom. I know how miserable you feel as a parent when your child is sick. Best wishes to your DD for a speedy recovery.

Another box ticked .... just ordered some euros for Barcelona / Madeira and some US dollars. Second formal dress has arrived so I just need to try it on.
Getting there slowly but surely but still feel :scared1:
Good for you!!! I have some dollars in cash and plenty loaded onto my FairFX card BUT Fred (OES puppy) ate €80 last week so I need to get a few more... I've decided not to do 2 formal dresses. On the 2nd night, I plan on wearing dressy separates with appropriate bling. I really don't want to buy a dress I won't wear...

Me too. Why does it always seem so stressful? It really should be so exciting, though I guess it is an excited stress. It is making my pancreas play up a bit. Can't wait to be on the ship and relaxed again. I don't think I will be overly relaxed in Barcelona watching for pickpockets.:headache::laughing:
Now take care of yourself, Marilyn...

I am feeling a rush of achievement today .... just ordered 2 4GB memory cards and then on an impulse decision ordered an early birthday present for DH ... a compact camera. I bet I will end up pinching this new one though as it is so small and dinky.
Oooh thanks, Sarah!!! :thumbsup2 You've just reminded me I need memory cards too. And a new charger for my camera - I don't know why but I'm always losing those things...

So sorry to hear this. Fingers crossed your daughter recovers quickly - a sick child whatever the age is always a worry...

I have all the disney songs on my new phone, Its a pretty cool phone, I like it lots, I never get excited about phones, I am going to buy a memory stick for it as it has a good camera on it.

I think vacation stress is staring to hit all of us!! :rotfl2: I had a dream the other night that I was in a hotel room in Barcelona holding a child (must be a DISer's child since my DS that is going is 6'2") and suddenly panicking because I don't have my ID's and that I left everything back in my safe at home. Now - can't explain how I got to Barcelona without any of my ID????:lmao:

I have similar dreams every time I travel. Either I don't have my passport or I forgot to pack and I'm running around the house frantically throwing things in to the suitcase in a futile attempt not to miss the plane. I lived on the West Coast for years and it seemed like all our flights were early morning if we were going East. I now live in Florida and our flight this time leaves after 3 pm. I'm hoping that my subconscious will now realize that I have plenty of time on flight day and not give me nightmares the night before. We'll see.
