My Family Trip Report for March 2013

So sorry you had such awful luck on your trip! Hopefully you were able to salvage at least part of the time there. Just curious though, how did you determine it was food poisoning? I often wonder when my kids seem to have a stomach bug whether it is viral or food related. Just wondering how to tell for next time! Is there any chance it was due to the roaches? Not trying to give anyone the heebie-jeebies but they can carry all kinds of yuck.

Hope everyone is feeling better! Can't wait to hear about the better parts of your trip!

We had her checked by the service Disney offers and they said it was food poisoning. The last thing she ate was BOG Cornish Hen. I know My fiance and myself were getting sicker every hour we remained in the room. So maybe we are sick because of the roaches.

Hi, Venom!

I am in awe of how calmly it sounds like you all handled everything. Between a sick kiddo and what happened with your room, I would be out of my mind.

I, too, am interested in the customer service aspect of everything you went through. Were you happy with what you were offered?

Hopefully you will all feel better soon!

Found it! :thumbsup2

Sorry about the roaches! Definitely gross, and I can see why you wanted to switch out of your room. It seems you managed to have a few fun days despite the bumpy start. Looking forward to more pics :)

Definitely not calm. Still furious.

Oh no! I wondered what the POR situation was when I read the thread. Roaches - YUCK!!!! I can't stand them. I found a Palmetto bug in our room at the Poly once and while it freaked me out, i was glad it wasn't a roach. And you can tell too because roaches BREED and SPREAD. How the heck POR can keep any of the rooms open in that building when you told them is amazing - and wrong.

I don't know, that may be a reason why they said they had no availability to move me and keep us there. If they closed those eight rooms they may have just moved us immeadtely because we already reported sickness and health issues in the room.

So, wait! You reported the roaches and they didn't offer to move you ASAP???? And then Pest Control never showed up so you had to call again??? Were they not taking this seriously??? I get it that nobody/nothing is perfect, but to me it's how it's handled and rectified that matters. I'm sure there is a loss of trust and respect for you, almost like a death because it is a place you absolutely loved and now it's been ruined. And it's a bummer for the rest of us who have gotten to know you through your awesome help and advice, we feel horribly for you!

First one I thought it might have been just a solo one. So when I reported it they just said Pest Services would be by later that day. Yes Pest Control never showed up but of course I killed the first one I didn't think too much until the fiance noticed the next ones. My guess they probably thought I was a moron and could not tell the difference between bugs.

Well I will continue to show support for the Resort. I have friends that are CMs there. Plus I am keeping tabs on this event. As well as someone who has come forward to me and mentioned something similar happening to them. But I am sure they will get a handle on the situation and rectify it.

Glad to hear that you will continue to follow this to make sure something is done, that right there shows how much you care not only about your situation but ensuring that others after you hopefully don't have to have the same miserable experience. I studied in the middle of Mexico for 6 weeks and I was afraid of having scorpions in my room, cockroaches as well, but my roommate and I never had the pleasure of coming into contact with them. I shudder at that. It's amazing how both you and Andre stayed in the same area, pretty close together in time frame and had two completely different experiences!!

He was in the North River View Wing I was in the Southern River View Wing. But yes Peoples Experiences and how pleasurable they can be it my top priority.

So sorry to read about the room problem and then the food poisoning. The roach problem would have freaked me out :scared1:

Glad you were given a decent upgrade to SSR for the inconvience.

Oh gosh, roaches are one of the things I'm most scared of! I'm so sorry that happened to you!

I hope they have thoroughly rectified the problem by now. I'm slightly nervous to stay at POR now, but I know roaches can be anywhere. It's just terrifying.

That is weird they offered to spray but said we just could not be there when they went in. But no offer to move us to another room before spraying. Just what were they going to spray in there after all. Hmmmmmmmmm......

I have to say, aside from not wanting them in my things, my concern would be the health implications of staying in a room they just treated. I am surprised they were willing to let you stay in the room.

How did they confirm the food poisoning? I have had it in the past and was told the only way to confirm was by leaving a "sample". Food poisoning etc not fun at home, my girls got stomach bug our last night of our trip. Not fun. The ER told my DH they get a ton of cases every week from wdw. I hope BOG reviews their protocols so it doesn't happen again. Was the hen undercooked?

They took some of the vomit, I don't know if you mean that. It looked ok to me. But neither my fiance or myself tried it.

Wow, what an ordeal. I have to tell you, I was following along on the POR faq thread, planning on staying there in November. After reading what happened there I am "jumping ship" and plan to stay somewhere else instead. Yes, I know it can happen anywhere but just a quick Google search shows that you are NOT the only one to report roaches there.

I hope that despite all of it you and your family were able to have some good times.

Followed you over from the POR thread. After you described your problem to me in a PM, I decided to go ahead and change our reservation over to POFQ.

Even though I don't have a problem with bugs, if they were as bad as you described in the PM, I certainly didn't want a similar encounter. :sad2:

I see that you edited your earlier post to include a picture of the torn comforter. I hope that you took pictures of all of the other "evidence" so that you can use it when you follow up with Disney. ::yes:: Lucky for you that you have friends who work at POR so they can keep you updated on what's going on at the resort. :thumbsup2

Looking forward to hearing more about your trip and seeing more pics!

You have friends who are CMs at POR, and no one offered to move you and your ill daughter to a clean room immediately? So much for the connections. I find it very hard to believe Disney would spray the room while you were occupying it.

Surely, with all the photos you took, you took some photos of this roach infestation?

My family was just there the SAME exact travel dates and 8 of the 9 of us became DEATHLY ILL

It was NOT a magical trip at ALL. We had a few very bad experiences one being the Crystal palace dinner.

I am CERTAIN we picked it up at our hotel especially since when we called for house keeping to service our room they sent a manager to talk to us b/c we had requested Lysol or spray of any kind they came to explain to us in ALL of Disney they do not spray at ALL. They use a cleaner to wipe hard surfaces but they do not disinfect the mattresses or couches in ANY way... i couldnt believe they admitted this to us I was LIVID I will DEF be contacting them to complain as we had to extend our stay by one night due to everyone being too ill

You are livid with Disney because your family caught a bug? I am sorry that your trip was ruined, but you cannot possibly expect that Disney is able to prevent the spread of germs. As far as I know, spraying down surfaces with Lysol is NOT the standard for cleaning hotel rooms. In fact, a lot of people that I know bring their own Lysol along to spray down their rooms because this is common knowledge.
