Pin Codes

I just got a pin code in the mail. It's for travel through August though so I can't use it (going in October). It wasn't an outstanding deal anyway, 30% off and free park hopper on a magic your way 5-day ticket.

I don't think anything Disney does marketing-wise is purely random, but I don't know how I got the pin and I think I've received them before and either didn't know what they were or knew I wasn't going that particular year and just tossed them.

I did sign up for the DVD. I did update my info for My Disney Experience and put in dates and hotel preference for a trip, but didn't book. I actually did this on two or three different days, but never booked...not to get a pin, just to compare rates and specials.

In the past we've stayed on site, but I can only think of one other time about 12 years ago that I stayed during the time this recent pin code was offered even though it says something about how we've been there during this time of year or something.

I also have a Disney Movie Rewards membership and a Disney Visa Card.

Also, I generally get lots of offers for casinos, time shares, etc. by mail (and credit card offers), so I guess I have decent credit and I'm probably on some list somewhere that says I tend to spend money on vacations that provide entertainment/gaming, so that might have something to do with it.

And two years ago, we stayed off site, but used previously purchased Disney tickets, so it's possible something shows up on Disney's marketing list that says we went to Disney, but didn't stay on site after doing so three times in a row. We also don't go every year.

But, who really knows?

I too just got the pin code for the 30% off rack rate + free parker hoppers. I also just signed up for the DVD (got mine the day before the pin code). Might be a connection.

Used our PIN today for a 10 night, 11 day CSR stay in June. Saved just over $100 vs Early June Special. Saved $ but nothing great.

We really wanted to go June 2012 for my son's graduation.

I don't know what I did other than my normal haunting of the message boards & entering trips online (no booking)...but in jan 2012 we got a pin code for free qs dining if staying at a value for the exact June dates we needed.

needless to say, I took it as an omen that we definitely HAD to go!

I would love to know what I did to trigger the pin because I need another for 2015!

lol

wishing you all happy pin hunting, may the odds be ever in your favor!

Yep, I just got this one yesterday. I also signed up for the DVD a couple months ago. Our next trip isn't till January though. Even with no pins, I am sure there will be some kind of special going on.

I just got a pin code 2 days ago, within a few days of registering for an account, doing some wish listing on the site, chatting with their online help several times, and ordering a planning DVD. I had put in my mid-july dates to check room rates, and the PIN I got acknowledged that I was planning a July vacation and offered me their summer offer, which is up to 30% off resort rooms (no park hopper option). Since I qualify for a military discount, it's not really a useful PIN for me. I would love to get a free dining option, but I don't think they roll those out for summer...

I am using a pin # for the trip we are taking in May. I received it last fall. We went last year in May. I was not aware of bounce back offers, but I assumed they sent the code to me so that I would book my next trip. I think the offer was 35% off hotel. Now that I am bit more educated I an going to take a look for a bounce back offer...but would love a pin # for free dining - that would be great.

On way to seal your fate, buy a DVC. We have never gotten a pin code. Why would we? They know they got us already.

Still I would like to get one just once.

I've gotten a few PINs over the past few years. I stayed on property twice, once in 2005 and once in 2006. Since then, we have stayed with FI's parents and have just gone for the day when we are down there. I got a free dining pin recently that let us get free dining and stay at POFQ, so we are going for 4 nights in September. I think maybe when you don't go for awhile but request info they may send them to entice you to go.

Do they send pins to people that have already booked their trips? That would be wonderful! :cloud9:

I am also trying to get a pin code for free dining in October. We are a family of 5 so getting us in just one room at the POR with free dining would be great for us. As it is not an offer for GP (but it exists for pin "winners") we are booking 2 rooms at a value with QS.
When I called to check whether I had a pin code attached to my account they asked about my zip code. That is why I thought that it might have to do with pin distributions.
Can anyone that got a pin code share your zip code, so as to check whether it is actually the case?
Thanks a lot! Good luck for all of you!

I just got one the other day. I had a trip priced and then left it in my cart. Within 5 days I had a pin code. Try creating a separate trip in your cart for different days and leave it. It might work.
The code I got was for 2014, I was looking at 2015!

Hope it works for you....I haven't had any luck. I've done the registering online, DVD, custom maps, used different email addresses for the different family members, etc. A recent pin that came out was for earlier booking dates than the free dining that was released to the public starting at the end of August. It would totally cover us so I was very frustrated. I so wanted to book our trip for Aug 31st BUT my kids are too old now to miss their first week of school so we have to be back by then. I called WDW and spoke with multiple CM's on different days. They mostly told me that those particular pins were targeted to the East Coast. If I had a friend that received one I could book with them but no such luck. I am in the very NW corner of WA state. She said I'd likely get targeted from Disneyland but I actually don't. It would be fun to receive one from DL but I probably would still choose to fly across the country to my favorite place - WDW.

I have also tried everything through the years to trigger a pincode....... and nothing. I live in the Midwest, so neither coast seems to care about me. :(

I called today just to see if there was a PIN attached to my name, alas no such luck. Does anyone know if it is specific to an individual or is it household? Would it be worth the time to have the DW call? We too are a large family that has made frequent trips but have never received a PIN.

I do all the planning and booking for our trips and DH got a pin code a few months ago and he doesn't do anything but come along. It's worth it to have her call.

Hmmm...

Just got a Pin Code in the mail titled "Whistle While You Save". Unfortunately, it only covers some dates for the end of this year. (our trip is next year).

The interesting thing is the offer says...
"Whether you want to stay at the Boardwalk Inn again or try something else ...."

We did stay at the Boardwalk last year. I am not exactly sure what conclusions can be drawn from all this. I does seem that one factor is staying at Disney and then not booking a trip in the very next year (Maybe?).

My mother who hasn't been to disney in 14 years got a pin code back in June for free dining.
I called and asked if we could use the pin code even though my mother wasn't going... they asked me to verify her last name and zip code. Then they linked the pin code to my account and were able to apply it to our package!
No problem!
We ended up at Coronado because nothing but that & CBR were left but kept checking for rooms under the pin code online and eventually POFQ & POR had rooms available again so we called swtiched to POFQ with free dining!

It is weird that when we go to view the pin code offer online we still have to give her name even though she isn't registered on our trip but I'm happy!

The best way to get a pin is to be a "lapsed" customer. The second best is to be a "new" customer, if you can swing it. One thing I would not be able to tell you is what cut off Disney uses for the definition of "lapsed". Maybe 18 months or so. I don't think shopping on the web-site and not purchasing is going to trigger a pin. At my work, custom letters take 4-6 weeks to produce/mail. 2-3 weeks for email.

P.S. I am a genuinely new customer, and got a pin in the end of July. It's for this fall, and essentially, it's the same ole free dining and room discount offers. I am sure they have better availability compared to the general public, but we are going in 2015, so...

Definitely believe this. When I keep pricing vacations but not booking because we couldn't afford it. I got pin codes back to back all the time. Right after we finally went.. Never got one ever again.:(
