First of all, I can find the positive in any situation and I hate to complain, but..
just got back. Overall - awesome vacation!!! From the parks, to the restaurants, to the bus drivers, everything and everyone we encountered outside of our hotel, were great!!!
Pop Century not so much. Check in was fine. We got our requests, which was awesome. 50s bldg, lake view, 2nd floor.
Luggage came pretty quick from
MDE (we landed about 5pm)
I heard so many glowing reports about this resort, I was really excited to stay at Pop Century!
Everything was great the first couple days. We had cute thank you notes made for housekeeping to set out with tips for them. Room was cleaned well and we appreciated it. Then on the 3rd day something went wrong. We got back to the room and it was not really cleaned. Bed sort of made, trash not emptied, towels not replenished, but they did take the tip we left out... Not a huge deal in itself.. until later when we realized that the housekeeping staff stole a brand new bathing suit, and tried on / and obviously and trampled around in some expensive shoes that were for a special celebration dinner - stretching them out and bending the back part so badly that they could not be worn.
As soon as we realized what happened, we went downstairs to talk to a manager. The manager told us there was nothing to be done, that we would have to call the complaint or claims department and see if they could help us.
So we tried calling but they are only open certain hours. So then the next day I tried calling and was on hold forever. Gave up because I didn't want to waste our precious park time on hold.
We put out the Do Not Disturb sign the rest of our week because we didn't want housekeeping coming in and stealing or destroying more of our stuff. So we went the rest of the week with no housekeeping. But our stuff was safe. Finally got a hold of the claims dept and they said they would contact me back within a few days.
Now we are home and they called and basically said we are out of luck for the shoes, and they will pay to replace the bathing suit. The shoes were the expensive items and now they are basically trash. I am not happy with this solution, and I feel that they don't even care that their employees are doing this to their guests! If you pay top dollar for a room in their 'resort' you should not have to worry about your stuff in a locked hotel room. We have vacationed in many cities in varying 'levels' of hotels and have never had anyone steal anything.
Did it ruin our vacation? No. But it makes me sad, disturbed and a little violated. So beware! Hide new items, or fancy shoes! The housekeepers may decide to help themselves.
Side note: we heard from a few other families throughout the week who also had trouble with the housekeeping thieves at Pop Century.
