OFFICIAL New Animal Kingdom Experiences UPDATE 5/28: Reports from first night in Post #2

We felt the water did not always connect in the middle so felt we were missing the center of the video.
Yes, this...
JB seemed even worse because I had just come from an amazing performance of FotLK - possibly the best performance I've seen of it. Kiume was perfect and dramatic in his lines, Simba was dancing to the music and really reacting to the show elements, the fire dancer was one of the best I've seen, and all the dancers and stilt-walkers were enthusiastic and seemed to be enjoying themselves.

At JB, I kept waiting for something to happen, but nothing ever did. I don't want to fault the dancers, but the choreography didn't seem very interesting. The mist screens weren't real mist screens, they were water shot into the air, and I couldn't tell what was being projected onto them most of the time. I must confess, I haven't seen either version of the movie, so the story was lost on me.
Yes!! FotLK is STILL amazing! LOVE this show!!

I agree about JB. Thought it was a slower starter, but it's a "fixer upper".
It felt unfinished and fell flat. IMO. The water screens were also lacking.

Oh, I've seen this version of JB and liked it. So many kids at AK and this show. I would've chosen the original JB...much more appropriate for the target audience. MO

For those who want to see it
Wow. That was mind numbingly bad. The music was eardrum piercing and the choreography was middle school quality. I feel for the performers. They are worthy of much better material.

I'm not going back to Disney for quite some time, so my comments will be based on the video.

I'm a sucker for Disney music and I loved the sound track. I loved the exotic Indian songs. It sounded to me like the person singing Baloo songs is the same singer who plays Kiume in FotLK.

Choreography just didn't come off on video so it's tough to judge. I will say there was a lot of dancing, similar to what you might find in a dinner show. This is supposed to be bigger than a dinner show though. None of the Disney press releases referred to this show as a filler.

Could not see the projections at all on video. Hope they were much better live. Also, the screens seemed far removed from the stage areas.

We were a group of 5, two in chairs, that went Friday. Saw the dancers in Discovery Island, tumblers in Africa, the tree light (no stories) and lots of happy people.

As to JB, here's what I posted in another thread.
I'm not sure what people were actually expecting. I thought it was really good, and fit with what they do at AK, what they CAN do, and what it was billed as: musical showcase of the Jungle Book on the water.

We went to the second showing on Friday with FP- it was pretty clear from the amount of clipboard carrying CM's that this was a test run of everything. The queue and weird winding of the FP+ line was horrid- we crossed Kali Rapids line, then the pathway to Everest, with line jumpers everywhere AND people running around us in line because we were too slow. CMs at the benches were trying to catch people but weren't arguing when people said they'd already been checked. We got in line right around 9:55 and would have been in the front of the second/third section over save for we had wheelchairs in our party, so we were at the very top and over.

Had a really good view of one of the secondary floats and dancers, and side projections. There were additional dancers in the aisles at times, and live musicians on floats as well. I think the projections just needed more water- the sprays didn't meet in the middle.
The dancing was really nice, and fit along with the music, story and theme. Lots of traditional influences.

I'm not sure what people were expecting, really. Maybe more like Lion King the Musical costumes? I thought the formal dress looked beautiful, but I could see where you'd expect costumes for the actors. There's no where to change, though- they're on the floats from beginning to end so it'd be a bigger cast. The floats could be more enhanced, but then they wouldn't fit every scene. You can't have the huge pyro the other parks have because of the animals- it's already a huge issue with the night safaris and shifting the animals sleeping schedules. The screaming from Everest was distracting as anything- honestly, I wish they'd pause it while the show is on or close it early like TSMM. It's right behind the FP section and can just cover the sound.

Was it Fantasmic or Star Wars Fireworks? No, different experience. Was it Wishes? No. Was it the forecourt show? Nope, I wouldn't stop for that at all. Did I go into it expecting it to be? Nope.

Did I enjoy it? Yes. Have I seen the new version of the movie? Nope. Would I see the AK show again? Yep, in a few weeks to see the differences with FP.

Then again, because it was scheduled I didn't have to spend the night waiting around to see it. Unlike the stories on the Tree, which are random. And on one side. Was in AK from 6-11 and never did see one.

Then again, I fully admit I like this type of dancing and storytelling. And I know the book and first movie. We went when it was full dark so that may have helped as well. image.jpegimage.jpeg image.jpegimage.jpeg

think i'm gonna book the safari fp+ for the day then after the reviews was hoping to see it during the night and if so queue whatever during the day but i feel I'll get more of the safari during the day

Thanks to everyone that is giving their opinions !

@book_junkie 100% agree with your review.
As for lining up for the fp. The line started by Kali River Rapids and then they walk you to the entrance of the theater. They don't have enough space by everest to block the way of everyone else.
I didn't hear any screams from Everest, I was seated toward the bottom, where the wood benches become stone benches.
If you are fast you could get a last ride on Everest after the show. It ended at 10:55 pm.
I'm going again tonight with my daughter (15) I am not telling her anything about the show and will let her make up her mind about it. We have fp for the 9pm show
EDIT TO ADD: I don't know if anyone mentioned this but John Favreau was there last night, I got some pics while the CM were trying to shoosh me away:)

I've seen in many pics leading up to this that floats are out there all day long. Once they get this show worked out will the floats be out there permanently throughout the day? Or will they be towed out a certain time like Illuminations? At night they look OK but during the day they kinda ruin some of the great views of Everest/Asia IMO. Or is this one of those we'll fix it with RoL bugs?

Maybe @rteetz, @yulilin3 or @TheRustyScupper can answer.....

I saw the video... I am confused about what to do. I had very high expectations for this show and it seems to fall flat. I will likely be cancelling my Tusker dining package. I may go see it anyway but I though it would be more like the preview we saw a few weeks back before they postponed ROL. I think that is why people had high expectations as the preview seems cool.

Ha same date as us for an Animal Kingdom Evening. We are now just going to plan on getting there late afternoon, stay for dinner at TH (not dining pkg) and enjoy the park at night with the rides until 9 or so and head back to the resort. Not upset about our changes at all here :)

Yeah, it will actually probably work out better for us. We're rope dropping MK on Tuesday and planning on staying for Wishes. An earlier night on Monday will probably help my 4 and 7 year olds make it through the looooong day!

I thought the dancing wasn't bad. It's more of a Bollywood style and the live singing and musicians were good but that's about it. The singer is the same guy from club villain which is a good thing because the guy was excellent there.

I don't know the official answer but I'm guessing that they are brought out at a certain time in the morning or during the day. Since they are still working on RoL at night they wouldn't be able to keep the barges out on the lagoon all night.

I can only hope this puts more pressure on Disney to get RoL out sooner. That's the show that everyone really wants.

Jungle book is an interim show that isn't meant to be a nighttime spectacular.
For the moment I'm keeping my 9/1 dinner package hoping it will be a RoL package at that point. Perhaps unrealistic of me...

I had no plans of watching the video, but I think I'm going to have to now, so I can make an educated decision on whether or not keep this FP. Also, I was REALLY hoping that they had improved the lighting on the safari since the poor reviews from the media previews last month. Doesn't sound like it. :(

We have seen the new JB movie and we all loved it. I've also never expected this to be anywhere near the caliber of ROL, so I think my expectations will probably be on target, but while I like the musical shows (FotLK, etc.) my 13 and 9 year old boys get kind of bored. I guess I'll watch the video (gosh, I hate spoilers, LOL!) and decide.

Did anyone who was there notice a pattern to when the Tree of Life lit up? Was it truly random or did anyone observe it if was every 15 minutes, etc.?

I think this "random" display will get some backlash from those mega-planner types that Disney helped create, lol. But it probably (hopefully) is a set every x minutes and we will figure out a schedule for it.

At this point, I think the tree is what I'm looking forward to the most.
