August 2016 Car Rental Rate watch

I just tried the AS1 code while doing my daily rate checks, and it keeps coming up with an error saying "enter a valid product code." Anyone else having issues?
Yes, the same thing happened to me last night.

Oooh, gosh, I had gotten a better rate already last week, but I just checked again and got BJ's midsize SUV from TPA 8/23-8/29 for $173 through Alamo. I used the AD3868JST code- so thank you for that Finbar127! I figured it was as low as I could hope- just goes to show it's worth it to keep checking.

Definitely worth it to keep checking. I just checked a few minutes ago and my rate dropped another $6. Not much, but enough for one of those chocolate covered Mickey ice cream bars :-)

My one way Orlando to west palm via Costco dropped to within 75 cents of my as1 code reservation. As as1 appears to no longer be working, I cancelled that reservation. Not worth risking a hassle for less than a dollar. 4 days in an economy for 105.

Hoping prices drop a bit more over the next week

Well I guess its just about time to throw in the towel. I pickup the midsize tonight @8pm...$326. I still have a fullsize on reserve for $389, but I dont think its worth the extra $60. The clock is ticking down to the final hours. I just ran the rates again, the midsize is almost $400 and the fullsize is over $500 !!! :scared1:

I think I better call it quits now and stop checking. Time to be happy and thankful for what I got.

We picked up our car from MCO on Weds. We had booked a full size car through Alamo, $279 for about 10 days.

When we got to the lot we were told to pick from the full size lane, which included the regular cars but also a few pickup trucks, a mini SUV that I forgot the name if, and a 2016 Jeep Liberty with MN plates and 18k miles on it. We took the Liberty. :)

We had also asked at the desk about getting the reservation put into my husbands name so he could be the primary driver. They told us up have the garage attendant change it. So when we checked out as we drove out of the garage, the guy did us a favor and added my husband to the reservation, no charge. :)

Thanks for the update. I used the Costco code so the additional driver is free per the reservation. But its good to know there are some employees at Alamo who are willing to do a little extra to keep customers happy. I will be picking up my rental this evening. I am hoping for the same opportunity to choose from fullsize aisle. Thanks again and have a FABULOUS vacation !!!!

Thanks for the BJs info - I was so excited that my Alamo rental had gone down to $209. today for full size 8/21-28. Put in the BJs code (I am a member and have a card) and the rate went down to $145.!!

That's great I'm glad it helped :)

we booked a reservation a few weeks ago using the Coupon Code AD3868JST and today when we tried to view our reservation the Alamo website will not let me view it unless we agree to cancel the coupon. Has anyone else had an issue?

No. In fact, I just booked a reservation this morning using the coupon and the AP code and can view it with no problem.

I wonder if its because we are flying into West Palm Beach. I had no issues making this reservation or the one for my bro in law but now when I look to view either of them it wants we to remove the coupon 1st. it also will not let me make a new reservation with it either.

We had a coupon code and the 7014926 code. I had no idea it was for BJ's. We don't have a BJ's card. Any advice?

Hi, I just rebooked Alamo tonite,it was down 5 dollars for a Full size car, August 25th to August 31st for $144.89 using the BJ's code and the 25$ off coupon. Joan

Do they ask to see a BJ's card when you check out?

Does anyone know where this coupon code came from? I know it says $25 of a specialty rental even for cars not considered specialty cars. Has anyone had an issue using it? The only thing I can find on Alamo's website is $25 of specialty rentals in the Caribbean.

I checked in online the other day and printed a skip-the-counter ticket, and that booking included a $25-off code. I'm a little embarrassed to admit that I can no longer recall which specific code it was. Not only that, but difficulties with the AS1 promo thing (which I also used) have been reported this week. My hope is that a printed confirmation will prevail against anything the exit gate person might say.

What "difficulties" have been reported? At what point? Thought I'd saw some posts regarding booking, but have there been problems when picking up? My reservation starts next Friday, so a little nervous (as1 makes a HUGE difference).

I had read somewhere that people had been told that AS1 was no longer valid, and they needed to see somebody at the counter inside. I am prepared to do that this time around since I have a printed confirmation with all the rate info on it. The rate advantage is enough that I'm willing to lose the skip-the-counter benefit to hold on to it. However, it is strange that they would let people go all the way through the online check-in and skip-the-counter procedures without telling them that there is going to be a problem later. Corporate America, I guess.

Im at $165 for midsize(Alamo) or $182 for mid suv(dollar)..for Aug 25-31..not bad I suppose.

Does anyone recall what the budget codes are? Im trying to recheck/modify one of my ressies, but it doesnt transfer my codes:(

I agree, I'm still using the AS1 code because without it, my rates for a standard SUV or minivan are DOUBLE, which is nuts. Last year I spent around $440 for a standard SUV for 2 weeks. This year it is around $800-900 for a standard SUV or minivan, using all the best codes and such I can find. Then use AS1 and bam, $445. The code no longer works BUT my reservation still loads and displays properly so I too am going to have to roll the dice and show up using the pre printed paperwork I have from completing the online bypass stuff.

I have in the past had luck with the gate agent addressing small issues like things coming up higher priced than on the paperwork I showed them due to taxes or a coupon changing so hopefully they can work it out right at the gate this time as well.

I'm really miffed about prices this year... But I guess this is what you get when more and more companies continue to get bought up by the same parent company and there is less competition.
