Big Apple, Boardwalk, and Beach - Bullies and Wrap-up (The End!) (pg 44)

I also agree the first is better !! I have to wait till December to go again. I wanted to go at Chritsmas again and Carol has never been at that time of year !! Already I have 2 individuals who are definitely going with us !!

That's great Rosie! We won't get back until 2018 at the earliest...thinking of maybe holding off until 2019 to catch the open of Star Wars land.

Looks like a great night! Cool to see the fireworks from BW.

The Boardwalk is pretty picturesque, especially at night.

How fun! That will be so magical for your clients. I just learned that my cousin in MN , who lives in a similar home gets to go on trips with his care givers. So happy there are caring people like you to bless these special lives.

Rosie is a special lady!

This became a common theme on our trip too, as I get further on. (I admit, it's kinda addictive.)

I think it's great, it adds one more element of things to do in the park for all of those kids (of all ages) who think they've done everything.

As if I wasn't concerned before! ;)

:scratchin  They should accept TSA Pre-check numbers!

Were you even considering NOT...?

Well, nothing with a long line, that's for sure, so who knows.

Totally agree. I think even the lighting on the kids' faces is better in #2 as well. Just softer all around.

Down with harsh lighting!

That view....! :lovestruc

Nice!

How did I not know about this?! I"m actually REALLY looking forward to this chapter!

I think I read about it in somebody else's trip report. I wish I could remember whose.

Your update demonstrated perfectly how easy it is for groups to split off and go their own ways at Disney. Parkhoppers and ease of transportation allow you to visit different parks or to take breaks if some of the family is tired.

Great pictures at the BW, of the kids and the fireworks/entrance and lobby. I look forward to reading about the tour, whenever that happens to come along.

:goodvibes

I said it on my TR as well, but CONGRATULATIONS to Lauren on her wedding! Everyone looked so happy in your lovely pictures. I look forward to a future report featuring Lauren introducing her new husband to Disney World! (Also, I love that she wore bridal ears at her rehearsal - I did the same thing! ;) )

Thanks Jen. It was a fun day! Yes, we're still looking forward to that introductory trip. They honeymooned at Disney's Hilton Head resort, which is a lot cheaper than buying doing the whole WDW parks thing. But yes, not the same thing as going to the parks. One of these days.

Animal Kingdom is warm during the cooler parts of the year - it must be downright steamy in the summer! Still, it looks like you all had a wonderful day.

Yeah, it was hot and we put in a pretty full day. But it was worth it!

I'm glad you enjoyed your second experience at Sanaa! Anika and I visited during the graduation celebration trip and really enjoyed it. We especially loved the bread service! I'm glad your server was awesome and even gave you the Tables in Wonderland discount without your card - it's great to have a magical moment! :goodvibes

Yes, the meal was really good and they were really careful to avoid gluten for Judy and still give her a flavorful meal. We won't hesitate to go back. Our waiter was the bomb!

Thank you Glenn, but really it is we who are lucky, we get freetrips to Disney and meet some extroadinary people , sometimes I think they have a much better outlook on everything than the so called normal people . I think Marv and Pt would agree with me !!! :flower3::cloud9:

I'm glad you get to take them on such great trips Rosie! I know it's not easy work, so it's good that you can enjoy occasions like that.

Sorry Glenn I meant Magic for 2 not you !! But I totally missed that Lauren got married , so Congrats to you and your newly weeds !!

Yep, that was Tammy, but that's fine!

Yes, we had a big wedding in the family last summer. That summer totally flew by, so much to do, and our house was full all the time!

I need some of your mojo next month.

Oh, I didn't realize you were going in the near future! Have a great trip! I hereby bestow my bus mojo onto you for the summer of 2017 (but take it back after that ;)).

You're such a tease. I understand about taking awhile since I'm guilty of that too.

:teeth:

I can see how it would be nice for them, keeping life simple and taking joy in the small things.

Who wouldn't have a great time, with Rosie as your tour guide?!

Oh sure. Just put work above us. ;)

At least you an blame on it "saving lives". I'm working hard to just to save my rear. :scared:

Hang in there, Glennbo! We'll be here...

Thanks Steppe! :goodvibes

Absolutely! And it's nice once the kids get older and don't need a parent along with them all the time. Plus, since we've been to WDW a number of times, they know the bus system as well as we do. It's almost like they're turning into adults! ;)

Great pictures at the BW, of the kids and the fireworks/entrance and lobby. I look forward to reading about the tour, whenever that happens to come along.

:goodvibes

Thanks Dee. It'll be dragged out, but I'll get there eventually.

I think it's great, it adds one more element of things to do in the park for all of those kids (of all ages) who think they've done everything.

I like options. There actually have been days I'm not in the mood to ride rides and stand in lines- this is a nice change of pace.

:scratchin  They should accept TSA Pre-check numbers!

Brilliant!!!

I think I read about it in somebody else's trip report. I wish I could remember whose.

Age catching up to you?

Oh, I didn't realize you were going in the near future! Have a great trip! I hereby bestow my bus mojo onto you for the summer of 2017 (but take it back after that ;)).

:worship: I shall use your bus mojo wisely, and return it afterwards. We're going to celebrate Danielle's graduation. We'll be there from May 20th until the 28th. And yes I will be at Ak for the opening of Pandora. Wish me luck!

I like options. There actually have been days I'm not in the mood to ride rides and stand in lines- this is a nice change of pace.

Agreed! Looking forward to the upcoming parts of your TR where it becomes a "theme".

Brilliant!!!

Still waiting for that employment offer from Disney, so they can take advantage of all of these great ideas I have.

Age catching up to you?

Eh? :listen:

:worship: I shall use your bus mojo wisely, and return it afterwards. We're going to celebrate Danielle's graduation. We'll be there from May 20th until the 28th.

I trust the bus mojo came in handy? Hope you had a great time! Looked like it, by the pictures I saw on Instagram.

And yes I will be at Ak for the opening of Pandora. Wish me luck!

It looked awesome! Thanks for posting some pictures.

DHS morning

Friday, June 26th, was our Disney Hollywood Studios day. But it was also our third park-day in a row, and we were starting to feel it. But this was Disney baby, so you know what you do – you power through it!

Judy and I got around while the kids were still catching some last z’s. I decided to go get some coffee at the Boardwalk Bakery and get some early-morning resort pictures in the process. My first stop though, was at the Front Desk to get a printout of what we’d charged to the room so far. (I sure hoped the room could pay for it!) Andy was working at the Front Desk again, the same guy who had checked us in when we first arrived. I still can’t get over how much he reminded me of Drew Carey, it’s incredible. Anyway, the charges to the room were about what I expected, so I continued on.

I took a picture of this Lady and the Tramp topiary, and either the camera was having a little trouble adjusting to the outside humidity or it was feeling as foggy this morning as my brain was, pre-coffee on our third straight park-day.

IMG_9036_zpsexcp7oqq.jpg

Here’s a shot of the Boardwalk Bakery, with the camera still a little foggy.

IMG_9037_zpsqo28abxv.jpg

Coffee obtained and brain clearing, I walked a little ways towards the entrance to Epcot to get a picture of the Boardwalk. It was very apparent that the Disney cast members had shined Crescent Lake to a mirror finish overnight.

IMG_9038_zpsaaxglmiu.jpg

And the Beach Club across the lake.

IMG_9039_zpsjaxwnrui.jpg

The Boardwalk was very quiet. Just me and some joggers.

IMG_9040_zpsz6radirf.jpg

Next, I stopped at the pool.

IMG_9043_zpsspgjzcnc.jpg

I had to get a daylight picture of the clown slide, to try to determine if it was only nighttime that made it look so creepy.

IMG_9044_zpsjdpozxtg.jpg

Nope, doesn’t matter. Day or night, still creepy. Although I think that at nighttime it’s really in its element.

I came back to the room and everyone was ready to head to the Studios. We decided to try the walking path, so hung a left out of our suite (heading away from the lobby), walked to the end of the building, took the stairwell down, and exited near the quiet pool. The path was right there, and we hung a left toward DHS.

IMG_9046_zpsy86yl9tm.jpg

The kids took a little faster pace, until they were distracted by some ducks.

IMG_9047_zpsnncswrr2.jpg

There were some Frozen topiaries outside of the DHS entrance.

IMG_9049_zps1emiqgwm.jpg

We arrived right at park opening, and it was a little crowded at the tapstiles.

IMG_9050_zpsap9t8nwi.jpg

It takes a bit of getting used to traveling with older children. We all split up to get through the tapstiles faster, but then had to regroup on the other side.

IMG_9051_zpsgbeszk0g.jpg

Here’s the crowd heading down Hollywood Boulevard at park opening. But was everyone headed to the same ride as we were?

IMG_9052_zpsfhswciz0.jpg

We hung a right onto Sunset, and the crowed thinned a little bit. Yes! You folks all head to Toy Story! I’ll see you later, when I’m passing you with my fastpass! Ha!

IMG_9053_zpsiuowu6ds.jpg

But unfortunately, we didn’t have to walk as far as I’d hoped, to reach the end of the line for Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster. Yikes!

IMG_9054_zps2ztgtrzt.jpg

But the good news was that they hadn’t opened the ride yet, so no one was in the actual queue area. This was the whole line and it moved fairly quickly.

IMG_9055_zpsgp5fz5zy.jpg

IMG_9056_zpssmajuhgd.jpg

I love the parking garage theming once you’re inside, about to get on the ride. All that’s missing is the smell of urine, and I’m okay with that.

I don’t know that I ever noticed this “LA Downunder Club” entrance before.

IMG_9057_zpstdykbkhe.jpg

These people are about to go for a ride.

IMG_9063_zpsdmbsprbc.jpg

And then it was our turn – bring it, Aerosmith!

Here’s the ride photo of James, some random guy, Judy, me, and Admiral Ackbar (gently trapped under the ride harness).

STUDIO_ROCKNRCOASTERRIDE_7365578490_zpswbwieejj.jpeg

And Lauren and Marlene.

STUDIO_ROCKNRCOASTERRIDE_7365575232_zpsy7caks2r.jpeg

While we were on the ride, I could hear Marlene going, “Ow. Ow. Ow. Ow.”. I found out after we got off that it was due to a hand cramp. I don’t even know what to say about that.

In the gift shop I bought a Steamboat Willie t-shirt. (You know Steamboat Willie...the old blues guy, known for whistling, who influenced the early rock ‘n rollers.) Anyway, the cast member at the cash register saw the DVC slider on my MagicBand and gave me the DVC discount without me even saying anything. Sweet!

At the check-out counter these guitar picks were arranged in a very curious pattern.

James is our Sax player, so I took a photo of this banner for him as we exited the ride.

IMG_9066_zpsud0vofid.jpg

Then we ventured over to Tower of Terror to use our first fastpass. We got in line and had the funniest guy in line behind us. It was his first time on the ride and he was really nervous and was trying to get himself psyched up for the ride. He was kind of acting like a football player about to come bursting out of the locker room for a big game. He’d jump up and down and yell, “Gotta man up!” “Whoo!”. Then he got on his phone and it sounded like he was doing a timeshare sales pitch to somebody. Eventually, he broke of the sales pitch saying, “Okay, I gotta go. I’m about to do this ride.” <click> “GOTTA MAN UP!!”

We told him that it was no big deal, and he said, “Yeah, for you!” “I’ve done 4 tours of duty, but I’m not sure I’m ready for this!”

This was James’ first time on Tower of Terror – we couldn’t get him to ride it the last time we were at Disney. But since then, he’d been on much scarier rides at Great Adventure and discovered that he loved them, so he wasn’t nervous about this one in the slightest.

IMG_9067_zpsslekctcm.jpg

Had to get photos of the cobwebby desk...

IMG_9068_zpsqih85csx.jpg

...and the cobwebby lobby.

IMG_9069_zps0jutmblm.jpg

They really need to have a talk with the cleaning staff here.

They were playing a rerun of the Twilight Zone on TV.

IMG_9070_zpsiwg68l7n.jpg

IMG_9071_zpsvkrd5iro.jpg

Here’s our ride photo. We were in the back row.

STUDIO_TOWEROFTERRORBRIDE_7365665203_zpsjxz4kaeq.jpeg

The ride was great, and James loved it, of course. My only regret is that it hadn’t occurred to us to say that we were in a group with the guy behind us so that we could’ve ridden with him. I’m sure that was a fun ride! I’m kicking myself that we didn’t do that. We saw him in the gift shop and asked him how he liked it. He said, “It was no big deal...but my face may have told a different story!” I wish I could’ve seen that ride photo.

Apparently I took a picture of clocks and watches in the gift shop. I’m not really sure why, but enjoy!

IMG_9072_zpsmzggd0vg.jpg

We went through some shops on our way back down Sunset Boulevard. Then we found a cart in the center of the park that was selling some interesting pins. James got this “Pew Pew” Star Wars pin.

IMG_9073_zpsl9tqdo0f.jpg

I guess I’ll end this chapter with a Statler and Waldorf pin that we didn’t buy, but do appreciate! “Old...it sure beats dead”

I trust the bus mojo came in handy? Hope you had a great time! Looked like it, by the pictures I saw on Instagram.

It was hit or miss on the buses. I ended up filing my very first complaint with Disney due to buses.

It looked awesome! Thanks for posting some pictures.

It was but we missed out on seeing it at night. Just another reason to go back.

But it was also our third park-day in a row, and we were starting to feel it. But this was Disney baby, so you know what you do – you power through it!

I know this wall well. If you power through it gets better.

I took a picture of this Lady and the Tramp topiary, and either the camera was having a little trouble adjusting to the outside humidity or it was feeling as foggy this morning as my brain was, pre-coffee on our third straight park-day.

Nope, doesn’t matter. Day or night, still creepy. Although I think that at nighttime it’s really in its element.

Very creepy. We didn't walk by it last week but did view it from the backside.

The path was right there, and we hung a left toward DHS.

Missed this little cut through last week, but eventually found the path. It was really nice with a good bit of shade.

There were some Frozen topiaries outside of the DHS entrance.

I'm so glad they didn't just put the topiaries away after Flower and Garden.

It takes a bit of getting used to traveling with older children. We all split up to get through the tapstiles faster, but then had to regroup on the other side.

We did this too, divide and conquer then meet back up.

But unfortunately, we didn’t have to walk as far as I’d hoped, to reach the end of the line for Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster. Yikes!

Yikes is right! Glad the line moved fast.

Here’s the ride photo of James, some random guy, Judy, me, and Admiral Ackbar (gently trapped under the ride harness).

It looks like everyone enjoyed the first ride of the day. I have to skip this one it messes with my equilibrium but everyone else loves it.

At the check-out counter these guitar picks were arranged in a very curious pattern.

Love the Mickey!

We told him that it was no big deal, and he said, “Yeah, for you!” “I’ve done 4 tours of duty, but I’m not sure I’m ready for this!”

I love this story! I would have liked to have seen his ride photo too.

Here’s our ride photo. We were in the back row.

Looks like everyone loved it, but James still looks a little unsure.

“Old...it sure beats dead”

Great motto.

Great photos of the boardwalk area! Love it. And too funny about the guy behind you at ToT.

It was hit or miss on the buses. I ended up filing my very first complaint with Disney due to buses.

I can see that happening. When they work, arrive frequently, etc., they're great. When they aren't...it's less than magical. I think it's good to file a complaint to let them know when/where the system was not working.

It was but we missed out on seeing it at night. Just another reason to go back.

Never too early to start planning that return!

I know this wall well. If you power through it gets better.

The mornings can be rough. (And the afternoon's and evenings.) But we're up for the challenge!

The humidity hit my camera too. Makes for interesting pictures.

A built-in diffuser lens!

Beautiful pictures! I'm so glad they shined Crescent Lake just for you.

I felt special. More people should've come out and seen it!

Very creepy. We didn't walk by it last week but did view it from the backside.

Was it something like this, backside of Mount Rushmore?:

Missed this little cut through last week, but eventually found the path. It was really nice with a good bit of shade.

Yes, very handy since the park is not too far.

I'm so glad they didn't just put the topiaries away after Flower and Garden.

Right. That's a lot of work!

We did this too, divide and conquer then meet back up.

Yep.

Yikes is right! Glad the line moved fast.

Yes, I was wondering if I'd made the wrong call for the first ride of the day.

It looks like everyone enjoyed the first ride of the day. I have to skip this one it messes with my equilibrium but everyone else loves it.

Yeah, that was Judy's once-and-done ride too.

Love the Mickey!

::MickeyMo

I love this story! I would have liked to have seen his ride photo too.

My one regret!

Looks like everyone loved it, but James still looks a little unsure.

He might've been a little unsure at that moment, since it was the first drop, but he liked it.

Great motto.

:thumbsup2

Great photos of the boardwalk area! Love it. And too funny about the guy behind you at ToT.

:welcome: TXMNie!! Glad you liked the photos, and thanks for joining in! Yes, seems like at Disney you can have a lot of fun with the people you meet in lines, on buses, etc.

We can sleep at home, time to get goin'!

Disney really does go all out to make sure things are nearly perfect...

They do, with the one exception being the smell of a city parking garage...

...And I'm okay with that.

:rotfl: I guess someone should explain that the restraints are there so you don't have to hang on quite that tight.

Yes, probably some kind of father-figure in her life should do that. :sad2:

It was an epic fail on my part, that I didn't arrange for us to ride with him. Doh!

I can see that happening. When they work, arrive frequently, etc., they're great. When they aren't...it's less than magical. I think it's good to file a complaint to let them know when/where the system was not working.

I don't usually rush to complaint, but when I reach my limit there's no stopping me.

Never too early to start planning that return!

We have already starting throwing out some options. When are you going next?

The mornings can be rough. (And the afternoon's and evenings.) But we're up for the challenge!

I love a good challenge.

I felt special. More people should've come out and seen it!

It wouldn't have been as special if more people had seen it. It was just for you.

Was it something like this, backside of Mount Rushmore?:

:rotfl2:

Yes, I was wondering if I'd made the wrong call for the first ride of the day.

I've been there, done that.

Yeah, that was Judy's once-and-done ride too.

I rode it in 1999 and 2006. No real desire to do it again.

He might've been a little unsure at that moment, since it was the first drop, but he liked it.

I'm glad to hear that. It's my favorite thrill ride in Disney, but I may have to rethink that now that I've done Flight of Passage.

They do, with the one exception being the smell of a city parking garage...

Have you ever smelled Bourbon Street in New Orleans on a Saturday night?

I don't usually rush to complaint, but when I reach my limit there's no stopping me.

Nothing wrong with standing up for yourself. I need to remember to be just as quick, quicker even, with praise though (when warranted).

We have already starting throwing out some options. When are you going next?

Hold on, I'm eating a baklava that I got at a local Greek festival the other day. Oh man, so good, but sticky. Have to eat a little, wipe hands, type a little.

Well...this is still up in the air. Our normal modus operandi would say next summer, after James graduates from high school. But, he would like to see the new Star Wars land and that won't be open until the next summer, 2019. So he's lobbying to postpone it a year for that. But...Judy's calling "foul" on that because that will be our 30th wedding anniversary year and she wants to do the Hawaii trip that we were planning for our 25th, but didn't go on because of unexpected home expenditures. So right now I'm looking at maybe doing a scaled-down Hawaii trip next year (you know, for that all-important 29-year anniversary), and doing WDW summer of 2019.

I love a good challenge.

I'm sure.

It wouldn't have been as special if more people had seen it. It was just for you.

Yeah, that's right!

I was picturing something similar that I saw in Mad Magazine, oh probably 30-some years ago, (I remember stuff that like) but this is what a google search came up with. Close enough!

I've been there, done that.

Yep.

I rode it in 1999 and 2006. No real desire to do it again.

I like it, it's a must-do for me.

I'm glad to hear that. It's my favorite thrill ride in Disney, but I may have to rethink that now that I've done Flight of Passage.

Yeah, I want to hear about that. It's not bad for people who are not so tolerant of jerky rides? Wondering if Judy will like it.

Have you ever smelled Bourbon Street in New Orleans on a Saturday night?

Not on a Saturday night. The only time I was there was a few years ago on a weeknight. I'm sure one of the more tame occasions to be there. Walked up the street, looked into a couple of shops, and then made my way over to Cafe Du Monde! ::yes::

I definitely agree with that one !!!

Aw Rosie, you're so funny! :goodvibes

Nothing wrong with standing up for yourself. I need to remember to be just as quick, quicker even, with praise though (when warranted).

I was raised in the south so my manners are good not matter what. I always greet the drivers and thank them for their service no matter what. A little kindness goes a long way.

Well...this is still up in the air. Our normal modus operandi would say next summer, after James graduates from high school. Hard choice. I think you have a good plan. You can't skip out on the Hawaii trip again. James is smart to wait for Star Wars land. My oldest Brent doesn't have the Disney bug like we do but he said he would go when we go after Star Wars land opens.

I was picturing something similar that I saw in Mad Magazine, oh probably 30-some years ago, (I remember stuff that like) but this is what a google search came up with. Close enough!

Wow Good Memory!

I like it, it's a must-do for me.

It's Dennis' favorite ride and a must do for him.

Yeah, I want to hear about that. It's not bad for people who are not so tolerant of jerky rides? Wondering if Judy will like it.

No jerkiness at all! Smoothest ride I have ever done. I have equilibrium issues. I have since I was a young kid. I was really worried about this. I can do Soarin' but can't take Star Tours and the ride kept being described as a cross between the two. I even have some trouble flying. I started taking Mucinex D 2 days before we left and took one every day to keep my head completely clear. I have never done Mission Space green or orange. Just to test myself I did green and did okay. I wouldn't rush to ride it again but I didn't toss my cookies either. We did Pandora on our last day, first ride of the day. I LOVED IT! No issues whatsoever. I don't think I could do it back to back but I would do it again that day. It's so pretty and so much to see. The wind in your face really helped me. I give it 2 :thumbsup2:thumbsup2.

Wise move. If you ever make it back down there let me know. Great place for a Dis meet.
