Just got back from it about an hour ago. LOVED it.
And I felt like Chewie's grief over Leia's death was every fan ever when we found out Carrie died IRL. I also loved the mention of the festival occurring every 42 years since it has taken that long to finish the saga. And of course Rey's parents - and grandparent. Kylo. Kylo and Rey. Lando. Babu Frick. D-O. Han. Luke. Luke's ship. Yoda's voice. Rey's saber. Rey's name she chose for herself. This film was everything for me. Must see it again.

Yep, those were the high points of the movie, for sure.

I REALLY loved how it ended the same place it all began
And Ewoks. I was really disappointed at first when they went to Endor and had no Ewoks.
Mostly I loved all the nods to the beginning

Even though I know you set up spoiler tag rules, I was hesitant to click in here because you never know what people will do. So glad I did! Thank you guys for the spoiler-free impressions.

I’m happy it’s well-liked, and now I’ll just try to stay off the rest of the internet until 6:30pm Tuesday!

OMG I didn’t even realize the 42 year thing until you mentioned it!

I enjoyed it overall. There was definitely some mcguffin/ex machina/ plot flaws but I kinda was able to just see past it and accept it for what it is. I thought some of the twists and plot drivers were kinda meh (one reveal I particular I hated at first, but warmed up to a bit later). I can see why people say it seems like JJ crammed his ideas for the 8 and 9 movie into one film. It’s a very fast paced, busy plot, and probably too busy. I’m planning on seeing it again, and I’m sure it’ll change my opinion a bit, but overall, it could have been a lot worse and I liked it

To one of your points:

I don't think the moon they were on was the same one as the one from ROTJ. It looked too different. Endor is actually the gas giant planet with several moons so the Death Star wreckage may have landed on another one.

No, you are talking about a different place/time in the movie. I'm talking about when they said they were going to Endor. They named the planet. It's not where the Death Star was.

The main thing I am hoping from the movie is that it has enough to entertain my son. This will be the first Star Wars he sees in a theater and it would just be a big let down if he doesn't enjoy it. If I like the movie that would just be gravy at this point.

Yes. My kids will love this one. So much action (too much IMO).

Just back. My official spoiler-free review is as follows:

Better than The Phantom Menace.*

*For those who don't know me, I hold the unconventional opinion that The Phantom Menace is was my favorite Star Wars movie. This is very, very high praise.

I'm not even sure what to do with this information. Eeek.

As a fan of TLJ, I was expecting something very similar to TFA (which I didn't really care for, but found entertaining) to "fix" what the fanboys didn't like. It's exactly what I got. Some twists I wasn't expecting, and I've been reading "spoilers" the past few weeks, many of which were straight wrong. It was entertaining, full of action, and had just as many ridiculous issues as TLJ. Anyone that didn't like Superman Leia, should complain about horses running on a Star Destroyer.

It's a fitting end to the saga, full of links to the previous two trilogies, and lip service to the fans.

I don't know how to add spoiler tags, so I'll just say that I have no idea what critics are so worked up about. This is a super fun film that does an extremely fitting job of closing out the whole series. Not an easy task and they did it.

The Endor System was where the Death Star Was - it just wasn't "The Forrest Moon" but rather another one, at least I think so, hence no Ewoks.

Maybe so. I should have stated I wasn't talking about the scene with the DeathStar but elsewhere. The Ewoks did show up though, so they were there.

The Ewoks (one is actually Wicket) are shown celebrating along with other areas of the Galaxy. I did not think they were on the same location though - though I can't remember now, could you see any Death Star wreckage in the background?

No, that's why I said they were not where the Death Star was. They were overlooking where the ships had landed after the battle, same place where Leia died from what I saw. Where the had the final battle was a different place/location/planet, whathaveyou. That's where the wayfinder device took them. Where Palpatine was. Even if it was the same system (and I have no idea, it wasn't important to me to know where that was) it was not the same spot where the rebels were based.

Yes, right. I was just responding to your initial statement that you were disappointed when they went to Endor but there were no Ewoks. It's because it was a different moon but still called Endor (Endor System).
