Do you think DVC should be a little more open to people moving dates without penalty because of corona?

Disney is closing owned and operated resorts. Aren't the DVC resorts technically owned by DVC and not Disney?

How will they work out the points if the resorts are closed for months and they broke the rules and refunded points against what contracts state? This is a big mess, and it seems like Disney isn't thinking very far ahead, or at least letting members know what the fix is for the problem Disney created.

Disney is putting the well being of society before the mess it makes for themselves, owners, brokers, and renters. And thank goodness for that. They are absolutely thinking far ahead about what really matters.

I’m sure in time they will let people know how this is being handled but right now there’s bigger fish IMO.

I am not happy that because of the closures and some of my points were banked that were uses to book said trip are now not able to be banked again. I understand that this is completely not a normal situation, and the rules should have been bent. 45 points that we paid dues on and rolled over to have enough to make the april trip are now lost. I can't even use them in May before the deadline because the parks or hotels wont be open then either. This is a case where UY is really causing more problems. Hang in there everyone, sorry for the chaos in the world. More issues here on the homefront to deal with now with 2 college kids sent home after we paid in full spring tuitions...

People are assuming all these reinstated points will get used. I’m thinking many will expire and things will work themselves out. There will be many people who can’t travel due to finances, health or any number of reasons in the coming years. I also think the rental market will be severely hampered—allowing more points to expire. For the most part it seems Disney is putting borrowed points back where they originally started.

Disney is contracted to manage the resorts in an association that does not permit member voting. Nor is the current scenario one in which one could call a vote of the association in reasonable time regardless, were it built into the association structure.

Disney is managing the property as contracted, and responding to the best advice of state, federal and global authorities.

Boy oh boy. With resorts closed and DVC members with weeks coming up, do the points go back to them to be used at a later time or do they expire and tough luck.

It all depends on the status of the points And an owners UY. Points that have been banked will not be banked again. I would assume the reasoning not to make an exception for this is that the member had the opportunity to use them but choose to move them forward.

Points that were borrowed..moved a year ahead of time...are being restored. This is not normal either, but I assume it is because you can only borrow to make a reservation. Since that reservation can’t happen, it is only right to move them back.

The key is that for however long the resorts are shut down, that is inventory that is unavailable. But that inventory has points allowed to it that are owned by members, So, depending on how long this lasts, there will be way more points available for booking than rooms and it will create a mess,

How to get out of it? No idea, but as a member I am planning and assuming I could end up with lost points. It’s the cost of owning something that can be impacted by natural disasters or pandemics.

I have both a May and June reservation coming up. May has points that borrowed but thr a June reservation is on a contract I am selling. So, if that doesn’t happen, then I’ll could be backing out of the sale since the price I accepted assumed those points gone or be stuck

Oh well.

DVC is Disney spreading risk onto a pool of timeshare owners. The risk is spelled out in contracts. One of those risks is that points will be lost due to out of service time due to acts of God.

I suspect people will lose points. Others will be depositing to RCI or trying to swap tto the Disney Collection. This will have a multi-year impact. But I don't think owners will have recourse. This is the nature of the product purchased, and like so many things, owners often don't realize it until it happens to them.

Rentals, believe it or not are still happening for fall and winter. I have one out for October and one for January, both recently made - one on Friday. I have plenty left for my son and DIL who will be antsy to go as soon as things settle down since this year's Italy trip and a few other side trips got shelved. I've pulled May and October trips and DH wants to stay in bungalows or cabins "one of these days" so perhaps we'll go all out next year and pretend we're rock stars.

I'm also looking at RCI through DVC (no fees or exchanges) $399 weeks close by in NH/ME/VT (they are in every region of the US) if resorts are still open this summer...mental health weeks. We all managed after 9/11, somehow we will manage now...hang in there! Be well.

If you have banked points that have to be used by end of May, can you request them to be moved to RCI and thus get two more years to use them? Possibly even at Disney?

You can't use them at Disney nor Orlando via RCI. That's part of the deal.

many people with banked points are screwed. Makes us rethink DVC because if this was a resort stay we would be free and clear at this point. I am losing 45 points that cant be used now.

curious why you think the resorts nor parks won’t be open in May either?

For all we know they could be reopening 1st of April.
