April Check-In **Official**

As I have said before, the parks won't be closed that long, mid May perhaps, but the So Cal economy won't handle the parks being closed much longer than that, especially if the entertainment industry can't get back to full production by then as well. We are too dependent on tourism and entertainment.

Remember this isn't about stopping the spread of the Covid-19, it is about slowing the spread to a rate our medical system can keep up. It is also about taking time to increase the capacity of our medical system.

The reality is at some point, at least half of us will get or have had it, the question is how well will our health care system handle it?

But that is getting off topic, we are checking in for April here and IF the parks are open in April, I will be there, because I won't live my life in fear. Will I do what I can, such as washing my hands even more often? Of course, but will it stop me from living my life? No
Honestly, I don't think the effect on the economy will cause the parks to reopen if the public health crisis isn't under control. New York is preparing vacant hotels and dormitories as hospitals. They'll run out of medical supplies by the end of the month. Med students are being conscripted as doctors (within their level of training). This is war with an invisible and particularly insidious enemy. If we haven't hit a peak and have the health piece under control, the economic issues will remain secondary. And that is terrifying.

That's where my confusion lies. We are booked for dapper day. Dapper day said they just moved to June, yet Disney hasn't made an announcement saying the park will still be closed that weekend. And dapper days initially said they would continue with the event as long as Disney allowed them to.

Oh, that press conference yesterday very much felt like a mom counting to 3!

Also a WA resident. It definitely felt like we were getting a scolding! But well deserved. We need to STAY HOME. They are contingency planning that the field my kid plays soccer on is becoming a field hospital.

I don’t really plan to go for our April trip, but haven’t officially cancelled (Alaska is asking people to call 72 hours before travel).

I don’t even plan on my kids going back to school this year.

Disney hasn't officially declared cancellation in April. Officially, they are still reopening in 12 days. However, given the fact that this virus is still uncontrolled in every state, it seems likely to me that they will announce an extension of that closure very soon. June is a long time away, so maybe they will be reopened by then. China hit its peak in three months, which would be the beginning of May in the U.S. However, China had more stringent quarantine measures, so I'm not sure we can expect the same curve. That said, we can hope for the best while still planning for the worst. If Dapper Days believes the park will be open in June, perhaps that is a reason for optimism 💜

We are officially cancelled 😭
Coming from Canada and with the borders closed at the moment we would rather not risk it in 3 short weeks 😭
Silver lining is we might be able to make the June Dapper Day work and it would coincide with my daughter’s 12th birthday 🤞🏻

You all my know this all ready, but it looks like the California Shelter In Place order was modeled after the Bay Area ones, and the Bay Area one was originally set to end April 7th. It's debatable if it will actually end before or after then, but it is something to keep in mind.
Our family was scheduled for a Universal trip the 6th-9th, and although I haven't cancelled our reservation yet, I realized today we would have been leaving while the local order was still in place, so I'll probably cancel in the next couple of days.

Yeah, I wouldn't be planning on travelling to get to the parks, even IF they are open in April. We live about 15 minutes away, so for us it is a different story.

The President has said NO Non-essential travel! This definitely includes vacations

I have been holding out on canceling (April 4-6th), even though I knew I had to. I canceled the hotel just now :( I haven't canceled our flights because I am waiting to hear back from SW about our Early Bird check-in (says no refunds, but I might be able to transfer it to another booking). We are passholders, so we go often, but I don't know when it will happen at this point. I am so sad.

If you change your existing flight to another flight, the Earlybird goes with it. That’s what we did and have rebooked tentatively for July. Since you can change your flight as needed I would rebook another flight to hang on to early bird in the event you’re able to reschedule later.

Thank you! Now I just need to decide when to rebook. My 70-year-old mother is coming with us!

The person was talking about the Bay Area mandate that originally said a shelter in place until April 7 (and their trip was due to happen starting the day before). The state wide one Newsom put out after has no stated end date, just "until further notice". These are official orders for residents in California. Even with just the county one, it was still an order. It's a misdemeanor to violate.

There is currently no such shelter in place mandate nationwide, though, coming from Trump. Although I believe there are several trying to push this to be ordered because, as we've seen in several states, people will not stay home unless made to. A suggestion does nothing.

Did you do this online or via the phone? I don't want to mess this part up. :)

I did it online! I just clicked the “change flight” link and picked new dates. It was very easy and so far we have a little over $100 per person in credits because the July flights are less expensive than the spring break flight. I’m not sure when we’ll get to use the credits - I’m hoping for a long weekend to Orlando over the fourth so maybe we can use the fare difference then. I really didn’t want to call based on my expectation of having to wait a long time so the change function worked perfectly for me!

Knotts Berry Farm has updated their closure to Mid May
It looks like Universal extended theirs until April 19. I would be surprised if Disney doesn't release something similar within the next day or two.
