JUNE 1ST- NO CHANCE

I don’t see people running out to buy unnecessary stuff these days. This mentality is not going to go away anytime soon. This will put us into a downturn after we reopen. And then Disney will have to lower prices.
I wouldn’t be too sure about that. Did you see the crush of Chinese people who swarmed tourist sites this past weekend after being let loose?

Unfortunately that doesn't just apply to WDW guests.
Actually, I think in some cases it does.
It isn't our "main" vacation destination, but we enjoy a long weekend now and then when it financially works for our budget, and as long as we find it a good value for our budget, we will continue to go. Other folks will be able to make that same decision in terms of what works for their budgest for themselves.

You missed my point.

They won’t be able to afford it after being unemployed for two months. Everything will look expensive. This will push prices down, and we will have a mini downturn post COVID-19.

Right now 25% of the economy is at risk.

You're right and the fact that those people cant afford to visit at all, is why those that can will be paying 2 bucks more for their QS meal. Thats why I said I understood it. It's not a money grab. Disney is just trying to balance the books.

I suppose it'll depend on how long this lasts and whether or not there are jobs to go back to when this is over, but I know a LOT of people who are buying a lot of unnecessary stuff online right now and even more that are basically getting through this, mentally, by planning the first places they're going to eat out at and travel to when this is all over. I think if the economy starts opening up before or very very shortly after the expiration of the unemployment supplement expires, we're likely to see a surge in travel, dining out and other "experience" spending. If the lockdown lasts longer than that, it'll be a slower, harder recovery and we might see some good bargains.

Yesterday's Coved 19 White House Press Conference makes it obvious that there is no chance whatsoever that WDW or indeed any Theme Park will be open on Its June. How can it be otherwise. This virus is going to kill -minimum 100,000 US citizens. NY and NJ are ahead of other States and Florida is two weeks behind. Does anyone really think that Florida will be able to cease use of safe social distancing by - say August 1 ? No chance.

How will you line up ? The rides are not built for social spacing. Restaurants - no chance.

June 1-indeed July 1 is an absolute fantasy.

Beazle, I was curious if you are still feeling as strongly that there is no chance of a June opening? Have any of the new developments since you posted changed your mind any?

Originally even with the shutdown it was gonna kill millions. Then it went to hundreds of thousands. Now the projection is 60k. I think June 1 is more realistic now than just a few days ago. I know Ohio’s main theme parks Kings Island and Cedar Point... which usually open Memorial Day weekend for summer. Still plans on June opening. Normally they would be open weekends in April but not now.

Even with the slow of cases I am not confident that large gatherings will be happening by June 1st. My greater area just saw the largest one day jump in cases yesterday. I see June 1st as the end of the beginning but not the beginning of the end.

Surely that has to be with an eye to being able to keep their workforce afloat when they resume operations in a skittish and tepid marketplace. Any other intent deserves being savagely ripped apart in public opinion. I don't want to hear about how long Bob Iger may forego compensation, let's face it he can afford to never profit another dime again from Disney Corp. and die at 150 years still an obscenely wealthy man.
I was thinking too, they have to start from scratch with all their food supplies. Who knows how much things will cost them as they try to reopen.

I had not seen updates from kings island. It will be interesting to see what they do

I feel that the recent discussions about it not being quite as dire as first predicted are a good thing. I am hopeful that June 1st may be realistic to get back into offices open some shops back up, etc while practicing social distancing. For example, maybe all 190 of our employees don't return to the office on the same day - but on some sort of staggered schedule.

I feel June 1st is still very aggressive for something like a theme park to be fully functioning with the hotels, food supply, and transportation network all in place. That will probably come on line in phases as well.

Church’s especially will be opening soon. You just can’t close this stuff up.
As for Disney. Hopefully by June back to business.

I am SO afraid you are right. And SO many of our older members are going to die because of it. I will have to decide what to do? What if I am asymptomatic? If you say, they should stay home, then only 100 out of our 300 that attend will be there. All the people that run committees, sing in the choir, etc won't come. And to be honest, in that generation, if the doors are open, they WILL come. You cannot stop them. So if this happens, we will see a TON of church spread.. So, so sad...

The reason it went down is BECAUSE of the lockdowns an social distancing. We need to get the testing up or immunity or something so we can open safely.

It hasn't been as dire as first predicted because the stay at home directives are working in most places. Opening things back up right now would be a disaster.
