Disneyland Reopening Speculation Superthread

Thank goodness someone finally said something! My gosh.

On the other hand, it seems pretty obvious that there have not actually been any "talks" happening around this topic as the governor has suggested. This article and the statement issued by this organization is VERY CLEARLY their attempt to make sure the public has some more transparency into where things stand.

Hopefully this will trigger a response from the governor's office addressing the why of it all. It's time to reopen theme parks or give a VERY COMPELLING reason why it's not yet the right time.

Not only that, but from our experience in WDW, opening the parks will give people a sense of just what it takes to function in a world with COVID without spreading it. We got off the plane and immediately started looking for hand sanitizer stations and 6 ft markings on the ground, we were startled to see so many people walking around without masks, or with chin-strap masks. We did not even notice these things before our trip. It really got us in the right mindset because it all seemed so normal there. Not only could the parks be open with these measures in place, but EVERYTHING could be open! It seems like the Gov. is missing a golden opportunity by insisting they remain closed.

Oh, I think there have been plenty of talks. I just think that they've reached an impasse and the TPG (theme park guys) are 'bringing out the big guns' by going public.

The TPG have their experts, Newsom is relying on Calif Dept of Public Health's experts. Obviously there is a disagreement somewhere. Since I have no idea what the bone(s) of contention are between the TPG and TPTB in Sacramento I'm not going to pick holes in either side's pockets.

I think the unions in California, who are more closely tied with our governor in California rather than the one in Florida, have played a huge part in delaying the opening or at least making the decision tougher. I know that has been the case in other industries, such as education.

No matter what, I am happy to see this!

Disney and Universal show companies how even large population can get it right and do it right.

The struggle is twofold - smaller theme parks probably can't do this at 25% capacity and turn a profit. And as pointed out earlier, people travel for DLR and Universal. Population movement creates potential of spread; no matter how low the spread is within the park, there's many more touchpoint encounters for the visitor: gas stations, restuarants, hotel.

Sturgis of 250,000 people on a single week event showed travel to 98% of lower 48 state counties. That's a lot of touch points.

FYI, I was at DTD today. While waiting for my virtual wait time to come up for the Home store, I grabbed some beignets and sat on the edge of a shaded planter by the gates. Don't know if it's sad or not, just staring at a closed gate, lol!

I did do a walk along the perimeter rope. Saw some work vehicles entering main street from the backstage area by the fire station (just normal trucks). And some CMs in normal office casual attire did a loop around the front of the train station; don't know what that was for, but they didn't have clipboards or pay special attention to anything in particular.

Someone mentioned floor mats at the turnstiles for CMs, but I didn't see any of those. I took a couple photos, but honestly, nothing interesting to report.

Nice to see City of Anaheim spokesperson going to bat publicly for DLR, considering the mood with city council on some big issues in recent years. Nothing like a budget shortfall to mend fences. :thumbsup2

Let's see if there is a little media offensive kicking off here over the next few days. It sure seems to me they are preparing the parks to be photographed, filmed, and/or inspected.

I totally agree with you. I will admit that when Florida decided to go ahead and reopen theme parks amidst a spike in cases, I thought they were crazy. However, now I can see how it was a good decision, in hindsight. When your state's economy is SO dependent on tourism, it might seem like the best option is take a risk and roll the dice. It could have ended badly, but it didn't. In fact, it pretty much proved that DURING AN ACTIVE SPIKE IN CASES, when you put strict safety protocols in place, you can reopen businesses safely. Not only haven't there been outbreaks, but almost unanimously, people say that being at the theme parks feels safer than their local supermarkets. This is a testament to the lengths Disney and Universal have gone to ensure a safe experience for their guests.

It also proves that the "science and data" about masks, indoor spaces, personal hygiene, and social distancing are accurate.

Our governor should be grateful that Florida decided to be the Guinea pig in this situation, and he should be elated at the fact that opening theme parks doesn't mean certain doom. Our state needs the money from this industry and it seems shocking to me that they are still closed "indefinitely." What is the end game here, exactly? What more does he need the theme park companies to do to convince him it is safe?

Agreed! I thought WDW was INSANE for opening up the parks, but they've proven themselves. Disney is definitely committed to staying open, so I think that helps with enforcing safety rules. I've been super impressed thus far.

Well to be fair, most Mondays show low numbers. Let's keep an eye on what happens the rest of the week.
Right, and the trends show Orange County in comparison appears to be doing better going back since earlier September.

Knott's Halloween Food Fair:
From today's MP DLR Update (9/14/20):
Knott's launches Taste of Fall-o-Ween
While California theme park operators continue to wait for the state to issue guidelines on how and when they can reopen their gates, Knott's Berry Farm has announced a new Halloween version of their "outdoor dining and retail experience" series.
The Taste of Fall-o-Ween event runs Fridays through Sundays, September 25 through November 1, and adds holiday decorations, new entertainment and a trick-or-treat activity for younger guests to the food and shopping lineup.
Admission to this event comes in the form of a Taste of Knott’s Tasting Card, which is now $35 for ages 12 and up (another $5 increase over the Taste of Knott's event). The tasting card provides samples of up to five of the Taste of Fall-o-Ween food and beverage options offered at 28 locations throughout the theme park. Tickets for children 3 to 11 are now $20, and come with three tastings and one trip through the Camp Snoopy Trick-or-Treat Trail. Children 2 and under are free. Tickets are limited each day to control crowd size. Knott's Annual Passholders save 20%.
Again, while the rides remain closed, Knott's says that artisan booths and select Knott’s retail stores will be open to with event merchandise and theme park souvenirs.
While the revenue from this event can't possible scratch that of Knott's signature Knott's Scary Farm bash, which was canceled for 2020 due to COVID-19, this string of events is helping expose Knott's to a crowd of theme park fans who are looking for a way to celebrate the holiday. For many, just walking through a decorated theme park may be worth the price of admission.
