Their cases have gone up lately so they have put new restrictions up the other day. Not sure how walking around campus right now will be.

From our email—
First, gatherings will now be limited to five people, down from a previous limit of 15. Students will still be able to safely gather outside, including on the Lawn, but will have to do it in groups of five or fewer. If this new limit is not respected, we may have to consider additional restrictions, including curfews.

Second, all students will be required to wear masks at all times unless you’re at home in your room, eating, or exercising outdoors or in accordance with the guidelines at one of our on-Grounds IM/Rec facilities. And even when you are exercising, you should always keep a mask on hand in case you run into another person.

Finally, we are going to ramp up enforcement of our travel and visitor policies for students, which should be simple to understand and to follow: please do not leave Charlottesville over the next two weeks, and do not invite visitors to come to town. This is to protect people outside this community, as well as to prevent more of the virus from being brought back to Grounds.

Importantly, these masking and gathering guidelines will apply to faculty and staff on-Grounds as well. These new guidelines will officially go into effect tomorrow – Wednesday, Sept. 23 – at 9 a.m.
Well, I'm glad they are taking it so seriously. But what a tough way to begin college. My heart goes out to all of these kids.

And I just don't know what to do since DD has to make a decision by November 1.

Seems like the most you can do is just tour the area by car? Have you talked to anyone at UVA about any possibility of campus tours? With my son who actually left town for school (the other two stayed close), once he had a few scholarship offers, we visited the tech schools he was interested in, in NYC and Boston. He had already applied and been accepted. And we weren't dealing with this mess the kids have to go through now.

I feel bad now that I see/think about the severe difference in experience. Just not fair!

And the Fall sports!! It's all that's on the news around here. Parents going nuts about this. These sports are lots of athlete's tickets to a decent school. On my side of the river, they are allowed to start practice on Oct 7 and actually play games starting Oct 27th, but - this is what CAN be implemented by the state, but will be put into practice as determined by the individual county boards.

I think we can walk around the campus (we will have masks on). If it's not allowed, we will certainly respect the rules and drive through the campus and go to the downtown mall and walk around. All of the tours are shut down. If dd wasn't set on early decision or early action, this wouldn't feel so pressured.

And yeah, so completely unfair to these kids.

And the sports thing is frustrating. Neither of mine are Division 1 athletes (DD probably could have swam D3) but DS really wants to play football. DD was named a swim team captain. Whether the season happens is TBD (at least it can go on college applications). I really don't get how sports can be safe if it's unsafe for my kids to school. Meanwhile the county next door has full in person learning. I'm about to move. Or go spend the year in SW FL with my folks.

Amex has a grubhub offer ($5 off $20). Guess we're using our gold credit and having Thai tonight.
I just did the$5 off $10 for pickup. So two grinders for my boys and I to split. After $5 discount and $10 gold credit, it will cost $0.83. I'm liking the gold credit. With the $5 off for delivery every weekend I should be able to use 2 credits and feed the whole family :D

I need some advice. I'm looking to try again for the CSP (with increased signup bonus 80K), but here's my dilemma:

I was denied for CSP back in July due to a) too many recent cards and b) too many balances.
I plan to pay off card balances PRIOR to statements cutting, so the balances should show zero. My last card was March 2020 (Chase IHG Premier). Before that, it was April 2019. I'm at 3/24, and below 30% credit lines vs. household income w/ Chase. However, I have two inquiries from July now - one for the CSP which was denied, and then the next day I applied for Citi Premier, who then also denied me for reason: too many recent inquiries. I would have at that point had 2 in the past 6 months (IHG card in March, CSP in July) with Citi making it 3. So now, my question, do I try again with CSP? Does Chase look at inquiries that much as a factor in approving?

The second option is to go for a CIC for either myself or P2. I have no biz cards, but willing to try if my stats seem like they'd approve. P2 has a CIP opened in April 2020, and then the Citi card opened in July. He's at 4/24.

We'll wait until October to apply for either, so that it's 3 month spacing, but I don't know which to go for. I can't handle another denial at this point, lol.
Historically Chase is not concerned with inquiries. They have been in the Covid era, but they seem to be loosening up. I think everyone here who has gone for personals in the past few weeks has been approved, even some MDD. Lots of business approvals for biz cards as well, but I just got denied today for a CIP and the only reason was business structure. I hate the denial, but I'll get over it. First Chase denial. With your stats I'd have no problem going for the CSP and if you can handle the spend I'd consider the CSP for yourself and try a biz for DH since he's at 4/24.

The inquiries seem to have an impact so for yourself, I would definitely give it as much time as you can. I'm also going for the CSP and waiting for a bit to get into my higher spend time frame as well as waiting to see if they put out a referral link. DD and I trade back and forth on referrals, not exactly player 2 but any little bit helps.

Don't take it personally if they deny you - easier said, lol - but for a denial I'd probably call. DD always calls as she has a boatload of cards and fees and works with a much bigger mess than I do. A lot of her technique is listening quietly while they talk and then taking the conversation around and around. She gets herself approved. With Amex, it's involved closing a card and replacing it with the one she's looking for. They don't give you an option for that on their application, lol.

With Chase, she spends a lot on the CSR/CSP. Also with Amex. So I guess the higher volume spend is a big factor also.
I know I shouldn't take denials personal, but in several years I haven't been denied any cards. And then I was denied two in a row. I know it's likely due to tightening up because of Covid but still, it's depressing. I called recon on the last CSP denial, and the rep wanted to approve me, she said it had to go to a supervisor to review though, and then he denied me. The darn CSP I've been denied for twice now!!! haha, okay, first time was my fault totally, I thought I was under 5/24 but I really wasn't. If I get denied on this card for a third time I just may cry LOL

Good to know on the inquiries with Chase, thank you! I think I'm still going to try and wait as long as possible to apply to give it time to thaw between the inquiries. I'll see if I can hold out to end of October or even the start of November, IF they still have the 80K bonus thru 11/8, as rumored. I'd much rather the CSP for the additional 30,000 URs over the CIC. I could possibly swing both since end of year is coming up, which means real estate taxes, insurance premiums, etc.

Sorry about the CIP denial. :(

I know it's not anywhere near the same, buy my DS is a college freshman this year. He is a procrastinator with everything and hadn't decided by the time Covid hit. Luckily we had visited all of the schools he was deciding between except one. That school was doing virtual visits and I thought it would be pretty hokey, but it was actually pretty informative and I felt like we learned quite a bit about the campus. Maybe something like that is available as well?? Good luck to your DD. I really feel for all of the kids right now.

For anyone here with littles, whether they be daughters, grands or nieces, yesterday I was in Costco and picked up a couple packages of L.O.L dolls.

For anyone who has already ventured into this tiny toy collection, you already have an idea.

I was asked by my grand daughters to buy them L.O.L. dolls maybe a month ago. Had no idea what this was, looked it up on the internet and then put the idea on a shelf in my mind until yesterday when I saw them at Costco.

DD came by last night and stayed with them so she could do a class early this morning. So last night I set out the packages to be 'discovered' this morning. Daughter left about 6:30am and they saw her to the door, turned around and went nuts with excitement! Xmas at Gammy's house! They are still playing, and I finally finished helping them open all the little surprises.

Meanwhile Gammy is exhausted!

It seems possible 2021 will be punted entirely. Debating if we want to sign up for Wine & Dine considering there will likely still be a lot of uncertainty. Hopefully things are more clear by the time registration opens next year.
I’m thinking wine and dine 2021 will hopefully be back to the normal. I’m hoping for sept 2021 back to normal pre covid times.

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: fedex is terrible. It makes me so mad that target continues to use them. I’m so glad amazon doesn’t. We bought a toy for our son and bottle parts that we really needed. They were supposed to come yesterday and the tracking info hasn’t been updated since Tuesday. No estimated delivery date or anything now

Is there a chance this is a Target issue. My company ships about 5,000 boxes a day with FedEx and almost never had an issue. I'd much rather have FedEx than UPS or USPS.

I agree, though we don't generally have issues with ups either.

The biggest thing I notice is I can get a notice that an item has shilped, whether it's from a store or ups or FedEx and sometimes it's simply that the label has been printed and not that the item actually shipped.

We just got stuff from target yesterday that I ordered last Friday. There wasn't any delays with it. It came ups.

One thing though, if you need something quickly you can't use free shipping unless it's Amazon and even then the shipping could be longer than you need. If you really need an item and it can't be delayed you've got to go to a store whether you go in or do curbside.

Also, I think target just had their big baby sale which could have affected things as well.

It's more likely regional issues with FedEx. I had a FedEx package from another retailer do the same thing last week. Retailer shipped on time, FedEx scheduled delivery for Thursday. As of tracking on Wed it was still a whole state away which normally isn't too concerning, but later that night it changed to, basically, 'we're late and have no idea when it's arriving.' Apparently it still had two more hubs to get through before out for delivery and I didn't get it until Saturday. Normally not an issue but it was something I wanted for Saturday out of town, so it was too late.

In my area UPS is way more reliable than FedEx. I know this isn't the case everywhere though.

Decided to use my grub hub credit for breakfast since I have to go out to target anyway. Had to share, never tried it before but it's donuts and they look so cute. Of course I'm boring when it comes to donuts and just got mini glazed with my hot chocolate but also can't imagine candy or oreos on them, they're already so sweet.

I don’t think it’s a target issue because it departed a FedEx building Tuesday and the tracking hasn’t changed since. I would think that’s fedex’s fault but I could be wrong. We get things shipper from amazon a lot and it’s almost always usps. We rarely have an issue with them.

The bottle parts we ordered aren’t sold in stores unfortunately and were completely sold out on amazon except for third party sellers. Normally we would’ve just gotten them from amazon instead of target
