Walt Disney World SWAN, DOLPHIN & SWAN RESERVE RESORTS Information & Questions

I’m at the Dolphin now (checked in today). We’ve stayed here many times and didn’t experience any issues so far. In fact, we were upgraded to a suite (via Marriott suite rewards) and had a great experience at Phins and Blue Zoo.

We were told at check-in that they weren’t doing daily housekeeping and to come to the front desk if we need anything. The room is clean and comfortable. We rented a cabana at the pool for tomorrow and will check out the pool situation tomorrow.

I have stayed at both Disney properties and the Dolphin. They have a very different vibe so if you are expecting Disney hospitality and aesthetics, you won’t be happy at the Dolphin. If you stay at Marriott or Hilton, you will be happy with the Dolphin.

Hello all,
Our family of 4 (2 teens) will be staying at The Swan for Xmas. I am debating on adding a second room, but have never been there so not sure if thats necessary. How big are the rooms and bathrooms? I have Gold status, is there a chance I would get an upgrade to a suite? Adding the 2nd room would be an additional $750 for 3 nights so I just want to be sure it is worth it. Also, do I need to pay the resort fee on the 2nd room? Any help and feedback is appreciated.

@lindsroc Congrats. I'll include a photo of the room we had which was considered a view room. Lot of space but with 2 teens its hard to stay. If you want the space get it, but don't count on a free room upgrade to a suite. It's is very unlikely and as another gold member myself that level pretty much low one on the totem pole. I if you were Platinum or Titanium you "might" get one but around Christmas, but even then I'd say its very unlikely to happen. I don't think you get hit with the 2nd resort fee but I could be wrong.

Call to add the second room, say it's for your kids, and they will probably give you a discount and waive the resort fee for the second room. I'd also ask if they have any bigger rooms available for the same price.

FWIW, I stayed at the Swan when my two boys were teens. They opted to bring an air mattress so they didn't have to share the bed, but otherwise it was fine. Tight, but fine.

I'd definitely call and see what options they have for you. You might be able to upgrade to a suite for a better price. Also, very important to note that i have had terrible results in getting connecting rooms at the Swan or Dolphin. I have requested them many trips and it never seems to happen. We usually end up about 2 or 3 rooms apart. I am also Gold and have been for many, many years.

Hello! Well there’s a very very very small possibility of being upgraded to a suite with Gold Status but you prob have a better chance of hitting the lottery and using the money to buy it instead :) At Swolphin, the best upgrade I’ve gotten is to a resort view from standard view with Gold status. If you book a second room, you will have to pay a resort fee on each room. But personally I think the Swan rooms are fine enough for 4 people, especially given that you’ll spend most of your time outside of the room presumably. My two kids are younger, but we’ve never had an issue, even with DH and I working from the room during a conference. Having the second vanity (one in the bathroom and one outside of the bathroom) helps with primping and getting ready. I would say it’s comparable in size to a Disney moderate room if that helps at all.
Enjoy your trip!

There is an offer for booking a second room, called "Stay Connected." It needs to be booked by calling (888) 828-8850. The offer states that the second room can be booked as low as $145 (+ taxes & fees). I believe that the first room can be booked using a valid promo rate, but Reservations could confirm. The offer states it's subject to blackout dates, so holidays may be excluded.

Terms & Conditions
  • Offer is valid at the Walt Disney World Swan and Dolphin.
  • Rates are per room, per night, based on single/double occupancy and subject to availability at time of booking.
  • A limited number of rooms may be available at these rates and additional restrictions and blackout dates apply.
  • Offer is for individual leisure travel and not valid for guests staying on a negotiated group rate.
  • Second room reservation must be under the same name as the first room and must have the same arrival and departure date.
  • If one room is cancelled, the lower rated CONNECT room must be cancelled. The hotel reserves the right to correct any errors made by guest on cancelling the higher rated room.
  • Basic room rates do not include additional per room per night charges that may be imposed or state/local taxes. The Resort Service Package is charged per room, per night.
  • Not responsible for typographical errors or omissions.
  • Void where prohibited by law.
  • Starwood reserves the right to discontinue this offer at any time.
You know this offer has been around for awhile, as the last line of the T&C refers to Starwood.

Have you thought about booking this? This room type has 500 sq. ft., while a traditional room has 340 sq. ft.

It would be less expensive than adding a second room.

BTW, my experiences at the Swan with Gold status are across the board - everything from being assigned to a room overlooking a roof and with only a half window, covered with chain link fencing, to rooms overlooking the front entrance, to resort view with balcony, to a Grand
Suite. I think it's luck of the draw, and if you stay there often enough, you occasionally hit a small jackpot.

Testing the Friendship boats today with stop at Swolphin.

Spent the morning and early afternoon at the grotto pool. We rented a cabana and had a great time! Pool was pretty empty and we didn’t experience any issues with trash or service. We actually scrapped our HS plans for tomorrow for another pool/Epcot day!

I made a few observations last week during our stay at the Dolphin, but wanted to give an overall report now that we are home and I have had a chance to reflect. We stayed Sunday Oct 11-Sunday Oct 18 in a Double/Double alcove room - Room 17114. We were one of those 850 people checking out Sunday. I had a car so did not have to rely on the buses, which changed without any notice while we were there. The parking lot was PACKED last Sat and Sun.

First the positives. Person checking us in was very nice. The size of the larger room was perfect for me and 3 teens. The location of the room was great; there were only 2 rooms at our end of the short hall in the pyramid: our room and one across from it. So no other rooms on either side of us. (and we never heard anyone across the hall so it was likely empty the entire time). We asked for extra towels and no feathers and they accommodated both requests before we checked in. I really liked the lobby area, which was always clean. We ate our take out food there a couple of evenings. The kids (ages 12-17) and I both enjoyed the pool. The location to DHS and Epcot is awesome. They said we would only have housekeeping every 4 days, but we got more. We received housekeeping after our first night. On our 3rd day, I texted and requested more towels and toiletries and trash pick up; they ended up providing full housekeeping which was a nice surprise.

Now the not so great things. While I initially reported that the room was clean when we checked in, I had not seen the mold in the toilet. The mold was still there after housekeeping came twice. During this pandemic when they are promising increased cleaning and sanitization, leaving mold in the toilet makes one wonder how great they are cleaning anything else. (I Clorox wiped every surface upon our arrival so I wasn't actually concerned about health/safety.) I had to go to the front desk and ask to have it cleaned the following day while we were at the parks. Speaking of sanitization, they do not provide any sanitizing wipes as advertised in their Covid brochure, nor do they do anything to mark/seal the room as "cleaned" as some hotels are doing. As I mentioned previously, my mattress was hard as a rock and uncomfortable. The other bed was much softer and comfortable. (If I had realized that sooner, I would have made the kid switch with me.) The bathroom in the Double/Double alcove does not have 2 sinks or a rain head shower as depicted in all the pictures. In fact, the toilet/tub area is tiny! Smaller than most 3 star hotels I have stayed in. There is literally just enough room for the door to open without hitting the tub. The carpet in the room had a huge stain in the entry area and the carpet in the hall was so filthy it was literally black. I happened to shut the walk in closet door while I was in there changing and the area behind the door was absolutely disgusting. It had months or maybe even years of dust/dirt behind it. The towel attendant at the pool acted like he hated his job and he had the attitude of someone who wished he was anywhere else on earth. He didn't greet me any of the times I went up there and just silently handed me the towels.

All this being said, I will not stay at the Dolphin again. The location and pool are great so I might be willing to give the Swan a try in the future if the rates are lower than Disney properties.
