Covid And The Rest of Us

Prairie_Girl, I’m sorry the vaccine hit you so hard. Hope you are feeling better. I’m so happy that my sixteen year old granddaughter got her vaccine this week. She has hemodialysis four times a week, and goes to Health Sciences for it. All in our family are vaccinated or scheduled, except the little ones. We had ours seven weeks ago, so waiting for our second dose. It’s very hard to understand why our province is in such bad shape right now, while everyone else is doing so much better. Yes, there are those who disobey the rules, but it must have been the same in other provinces. Hope this doesn’t last much longer. We can stay home, but it’s been a long time since we’ve seen our family.

Years ago these were popular mine is a hide and go seek/small child size decor. It sports Fall-Winter/garb, and my Leafs touque! :)
Oh I see it now. I think my Mother had at least one of those.
In Montreal news, we had a bear on the loose 😳. We were asked to stay in as it was going city to city, until it was darted. Almost surreal. 577140

Tonight a new press conference in NL. We will indeed easing measures as of the 5th of June instead of the 9th. We are talking indoor dining, reopening indoor museums, movie theaters, themeparks, swimming pools etc. all with restrictions.

Other news:
- 87% of our over 65 year olds are vaccinated. Lowest are some big cities, and our Bible Belt.
- Six of the national football team have chosen not to get vaccinated before the European Championship, it's not announced who they are. Like Olympic sporters there was some special program for professional sporters, but the choice of getting a vaccine was with the players.
- Another football player got caught in Brazil at an illegal Corona party, no masks, no distance. Let's consider him an idiot.
- Today it was published that some young people lied about having a chronical disease to get a shot before it was their turn. There are checks made at random, but to make sure there are not too many obstacles in getting a shot and discourage people it's not complicated to cheat. There are websites where it is explained how. Before some journalists who already tried it.
- Lately our vaccination program is speeding up. At the end of last week people from 1968 could make their appointments, now we are at 1975. So hopefully within the next two weeks it will be my turn :)
- NL is divided into 25 regions to monitor Covid. We have a 4 tier system, 2 regions have moved from the highest tier to the 3rd tier.
- The biggest hospital in Amsterdam is closing down one of their covid wards.
- We will have a program to spread people whose operation/treatment has been delayed over the different hospitals in the country. As we did with covid patients and ICU covid patients.
- We started vaccinating our military force.
- We will most likely get those free PCR tests for the summer holidays for people who cannot get vaccinated yet or for countries that ask for 2 shots (and you only had one).
- We will get the results of how many audience members at Eurovision tested positive. But it will be a few more weeks as they want to finalize the contact research. There were over 28K visitors during the several events, everyone had to get tested before the event. Afterwards was optional. At other test events about 60-80% did take the test afterwards.
- Four people who participated in the curfew-riots a few months ago were convicted to 2 weeks to 5 months in jail. Two of them also have to pay 86.000 euro in damages to the stores they destroyed.

TODAY is our first day of no curfew in Quebec 🥰. We have had one since January 6th. We are also allowed up to 8 people (outdoors), from up to 2 different households, and our patios reopen. Since our hockey team lived to see another day 2500 people will be able to attend the game Saturday. MOST of the Probince will have inside dining as of Monday, but the greater Montreal will wait one more week.
We have walk in clinics for those who had the Astra vaccine, they will be able to get their second dose this weekend. We are “supposed” to be pushing up our second doses, and will be advised next week to go on clicsante website to do so ourselves. I imagine it will be priority based.

19 July
Ireland will operate the EU Digital COVID Certificate (DCC) for travel originating within the EU/EEA. The system will be used throughout the EU and in Norway, Switzerland, Liechtenstein and Iceland.
A DCC will show if a passenger:
  • is vaccinated against COVID-19;
  • has recovered from COVID-19 in the past 9 months; or
  • has a negative test result taken no more than 72 hours before arrival
Passengers arriving into Ireland with a DCC will not have to undergo quarantine.
However, passengers with a DCC based on a non-PCR test (for example, antigen), or those arriving without a DCC, will require proof of a negative RT-PCR test taken no more than 72 hours before arrival.
Children aged between 7 and 18 who have not been vaccinated must also have a negative PCR test.
A passenger who has been in a non-EU/EEA country in the 14 days prior to arrival into Ireland will be subject to the rules applying to that country (see below).
All passengers will be advised to observe public health restrictions and to present for post-arrival testing if they develop symptoms of COVID-19.

Passengers arriving into Ireland from outside EU/EEA
From 19 July, Ireland will also broadly align itself to the EU approach to non-essential travel into the EU from third countries.
To protect its citizens against importation of variants, an ‘emergency brake’ mechanism will be coordinated at EU level to react swiftly to the emergence of a variant of concern or variant of interest.
Government advice will be to avoid travel to a country where the emergency brake has been applied.

The approach to travel outside the EU/EEA will also apply to travel to and from Great Britain and the US.

Under consideration for August
Further increases in the numbers permitted at indoor and outdoor events
Maximum attendance at wedding receptions and celebrations to increase to 100
Public transport to return to full capacity

Press conference is over, basically lockdown is over.

- Visitors at home from 2 to 4 people per day per household.
- Restaurants & Bars can have max 50 people inside, with reservations, fixed seating, distancing and closing time 22:00.
- Night clubs won't reopen yet.
- All sports for adults possible again, locker rooms & showers are reopened, but no competitions yet.
- Theaters with 1000 seats can sit 250 people with distancing.
- Casinos, saunas, tanning centers, wellness centers can all reopen, max 1 person per 10 square meter. Reservations, masks, health check.

- Due to issues at J&J there will be a delay and means that every adult vaccinated Mid July instead of early July
- Today the EMA approved Pfizer for 12-15 year olds. Decisions have to be made what to do with this group.
- Digital vaccination certificates should be ready per 1st of July.
About 1 million people will not automatically get one. They decided to not share their personal details with our CDC, probably not realizing the consequences for certificates. This can be solved but thatwon't happen overnight.

Oh, and I've got a new job! :) I got my degree in marketing in February and finally was able to find a job in my new field. Going to resign on Monday and start per 1st of July

Well we were hoping our Maple Leaf team would have won but on we go. You we have people to cheer your team on but I’m sure our team will appreciate people in the stands even if they get booed....lol

Here in Ontario they are letting people get there second shot early starting with the over 80 age group than mid June over 70 + then it opens up that others can keep their original second dose date or call and change to a sooner date . Not sure if they are going to try to do it in some order . So instead of almost 14 weeks it could be 8 to 4 weeks. All depends on supply.

The people who got Astra Zeneca have to wait there 12 weeks . Only people that got it March 10-19 can get the second dose to use up vaccines that are expiring . Plus they are still waiting to see if they well let us mix vaccines.

We thought we would move his stage plan 1 plan up but no such luck. People really want the kids to get back to school, nothing on that either.

We are thanking Galchenyuk for the pass on the goal 😉. He must miss us lol
Well, there will probably be some leaf fans in the building. Albeit rich fans,1500$ on the market. No thank you. One thing we do right is the Thank You’s, so I expect a lot of first responders, aNd a nice opening message.

We are supposed to find out next week for the rollout on the pushup of the vaccinations. Let us see.
Other than Cegep and University, our schools have been a go since September. We did have grades 9-11 going alternative days for a while, but that ended.

I wish they’d do that here. Make people pay for damages they cause during riots.

Interesting little news bit came out today. We have a Corona app, that notifies you if you have been in contact with someone infected (provided both people use the app). 4,9 million people downloaded it, 3 million active users.
The results of it are small, but still important. Due to the app 14.000 infections were located, almost 200.000 people got tested after a notification. It lowered our R-number with 0,3

Congratulations!
Best of luck to you on your new job. HOW wonderful is that ☘

Thank you! Really happy with it, but also scared to death to leave an indefinite contract of 13 years!
Start all over :)

I think this is the highest amount I have seen. In a lot of cases it's hard to prove who did the actual damage.

Our provincial government developed one of those apps early on but hardly anyone would participate. It was back in the day when people still rankled at the idea of being “tracked and monitored” by the government, not realizing how pervasive regulation would become, and it was quickly rendered useless.

Congratulations on the new job! Is it a remote position or are people in NL returning to offices?

Thanks :) people who can work at home, work mainly at home, I think. At both my old and my new job they haven't decided yet what the policy will be, but most likely it will stay a mix.
The manager who interviewed me said that it would most likely be one day at home, four days at the office.

@Karin1984 congrats on the new job! 🥳

A lot of companies in NL are indeed still working mostly from home I hear from friends around me. However, I have noticed that traffic from the street outside my house is as busy during rush hour in the afternoon as it was pre-pandemic.

My office has been quite strict with working from home, but since last Tuesday we're allowed to go into the office every once in a while. We have to register for a (half) day at the office on my work's intranet and I think capacity is currently at around 10%. I'm glad about this, because it does really help me mentally to go into the office every week or every other week. I currently live by myself in a 33m2 apartment and being on such a small space and not having anyone around for basically 24/7 can get pretty tough, so getting out of the house for a day every once in a while feels so nice.

Karin mentioned that 6 players from the Dutch national football team refused the vaccine, but one of them(Matthijs de Ligt) has just gone online and said he is in fact planning on getting the vaccine!

Yes we can mix the vaccines in Canada.

My next one will be Pfizer. The month after Astra Zeneca was terrible for me. So much anxiety in my case. Lol I’m not a risk taker. Only took that one because the numbers were high where I lived and they said the supply wasn’t coming in. Even than I waited 3 weeks before taking it the Astra Zeneca.

I’m sorry you all are probably tired of me saying this but I’m a happy camper today.

Our numbers in Ontario are really good today . Our stay at home orders ends tomorrow June 2 but we still are not opening up....waiting for his June 16 date for his stage 1 plan. Even that changed form the 14 th.

Second shots are moved up too from 16 weeks to 8 weeks difference. Starting with the over 80 ,than 70+

Tomorrow I get my second shot for shingles so I make sure I have 14 days between my second shot for COVID.

So I'm in the US but as I've mentioned we're very close to the Canadian border. During our governor's weekly press conference this morning it was mentioned that Prime Minister Trudeau has set the goalposts for re-opening the border -- 75% of Canadians with at least 1 dose of vaccine and 20% considered fully-vaccinated (which I assume to mean 14-days after the final dose). The expectation seemed to be that could be achieved in 3-5 weeks.

Any Canadians able to confirm that report?
