You just have to scan in to the park at some point before 1pm. You can go anywhere and get the bg.
Thank you, our plane doesn’t arrive until 11:30 am, so I doubt by the time we check in, etc we would make it by 1 pm. Oh well, guess there’s another year 😞

How large are the boarding group windows? How long do they last? If my boarding group gets called and we are sitting down eating someplace want to know that I have enough time.

The return window is an hour, but if an ADR prevents you from getting there then, no problem. Just tell the CMs (have the receipt handy JIK) and they’ll let you ride.

FWIW, the three days I was there last week they did not start calling groups until official park open at 9am. Yesterday when I had BG 3 they called 1-7 at exactly 9, when I was in the queue for MMRR after having hit RNRC and ToT. Luckily I had more than enough time to get over to Rise.
Seems like I should know this by now, but what is the return window? In your example, you were called right at 9, but what time did you need to be there by?

ETA: sorry, someone else literally just asked the question I wanted to ask. The one time I didn’t read all posts because I didn’t want to do to the next page.... LOL

I haven't read all of the last 993 pages, but based on what I have read, I feel fairly comfortable trying to join a boarding group except for the fact that I don't know what the "AT-AT screen" means. Also, if I practice joining at home but obviously don't have park reservations, will I just get a screen telling me I don't have park reservations? Does that mean I would have gotten a boarding group if I did have reservations?

The ATAT screen is more just a picture found on the main page of the Disney App that looks like this:

The answers to the rest of your questions are all yes.

If you get a red or blue box error while still on friends and family screen, that indicates a failed attempt. Good luck!

Hang on, in all seriousness, how important is ROTR to you? We were just three weeks from our 2020 trip before the Covid closure. And so I am laser focused on getting on this ride. If it’s super critical for you, any chance you can go to the park first straight from the airport? I know that sounds crazy.

Not likely since we will have our bags, if ME still handled luggage it would’ve absolutely been possible.

Some people have been successful at getting a bg at the 7am drop while at their home airport, then getting on the ride when they arrive. Doesn't always happen, but if you don't think you'll be there for the 1pm drop, might as well give it a shot if you can.

Which method seems to be more successful on the iPhone?

1) Navigate to the AT-AT -> Click Join at exactly 7am -> Click Join -> Click Join -> Click Done
OR
2) Navigate to the AT-AT -> Click Join before 7am -> Pull down and let go to refresh at exactly 7am -> Click Join -> Click Join -> Click Done
OR
3) Navigate to the AT-AT -> Click Join before 7am -> Pull down and hold then let go to refresh at 7am exactly -> Click Join -> Click Join -> Click Done

I have also read that using the Atomic clock is best.

Not sure there is anything I can do differently to make that faster. I was on room wifi

I’m also under the assumption riding It will be a pleasant upgrade
Were you refreshing the join screen or did you sit at the ATAT picture until the time changed to 7, then clicked join?

refreshed at 58 seconds on time.gov

won’t have time:gov at 1 so I’ll try to the other method

I’m also a party of one which probably decreases chances

Yeah, in my opinion, waiting til the time changes is more accurate. I know some have had success with the refresh method, but I think there's too much uncertainty.

Good luck at 1!

I have an iPhone X and I use method 1.
