State of Fast Pass Return (or replacement)

Not sure why the snark...the fact is they know how their competition is making money.

I agree with you. Not sure why the snark. I've never been to Cedar Point or Universal. . .but the reviews and pics of Universal sure don't paint it as a 2nd rate place.

My teenagers want Disney for nostalgic reasons. . .but are looking forward to Universal, because they are teenagers - they love HP and Marvels more than the Disney characters these days.

I’m concerned about timing. I would be really upset if some major change to FP happens before my trip (30 days). I did not budget FP money fir a family of 5 for 10 days. And I wouldn’t be able to change things at this point. This is potentially a really significant price increase. And yes it’s optional, but the only way I’d have the same experience I planned (equal footing for rides is what I planned, everyone is either in a standby line, or everyone on Disney property has equal chances at FP) is if I purchased FP.

I might get slammed for saying this, but that was one of the best deals I have ever gotten at a Disney Park! Scheduled buses without having to got though security was worth every penny. I am all for options for FP that allow for a hybrid of options paid and free. That is what the express bus option allowed (buses were free at the front of the park, but you could pay for the perk of express bus). I completely understand why others feel differently.
I really wish they’d bring those buses back!

Lots of negative comments on a few Disney forums that i've visited. There are a lot of people upset with Disney. I have a feeling that disney doesnt care what any of us think, only way to stop this company from charging more and more and more, is to stop giving them money.

If Disney does an expensive per ride fastpass then it will just show that Disney doesn't want trips to last longer than 2-3 days. I'm surprised they still give discounts as you add days to your ticket.

Disney released this for Paris first so they can look at public opinions. They are reading every message board, instagram post, tweet, etc.... I liked fastpass + in disneyland because most AP holders didn't seem to bother with it, and it was the out of towners who come once a year who seemed to mostly use it (I could be wrong, but that is the impression I got). We loved how we could get into a line and as soon as we had 'beeped' the fastpass, while waiting for that ride we could check for another right away. We usually got a good amount in one day. I liked not having to pick what I rode 3 months in advance. Id be willing to add this on for a REASONABLE cost. But would I pay $10-$20 per fastpass? Maybe 1 special or fave ride a day, but otherwise no. I don't see that system flying in DL or WDW.

This is where we are too. I would love for them to bring FP+ back and announce a paid change for 2022 to give guests time to adapt. We would not have booked a week trip in August if we knew had to pay for FP access, nor would we have booked if we knew capacity would be back to normal but they would do nothing with the lines.

I guess for me FP+ > paid > nothing, but dwant FP+ back.

There is an amusement park my ILs like that charges per ride and then has no entry fee and I HATE it (the system not the park). I couldnt imagine enjoying a "pay to get in and pay to ride everything!" system. And yes I know I can (and may) choose not to pay, but it does stink considering we got 6+ FP per day EASILY even with heavy crowds for free on our last trip.

Ah well, I realize Disney doesn't care what I think lol. Fingers crossed for good news this week!

Yes agree here too! If it was $X per day to use the old system, that sucks but okay I will see what we can afford and go less days and eat less TS. If its $60+ per RIDE (for a family of 4)? Thats absurd.

offsite

We stay offsite & cost for a week at an awesome resort + three 5 day parkhoppers cost about $1800 the last time we went (2019) so I'd be ok paying for some FP since we save so much staying offsite, depending on how it worked & if we even needed them if we went at a less crowded time.

This line of thinking makes me think they’ll do free for onsite. It makes sense since plenty of people may move offsite and just pay for FP.

There actually may be something to this. There has been complaints that it’s too busy. Well if everyone shortens to say 4 days ( 1 day per park) it would help with crowds.

I have purchased fast lane for Cedar parks before, and I complain about the price but we’re there for 1 day so it’s not the same. No way could we afford $10 x 4 people x 3 rides x 7 days. That’s an extra $840 on top of already ridiculous ticket prices. Nope. I’m also not standing in endless lines. We’ll just vacation elsewhere (much to my DH’s joy!).

Yea you stay 4 days instead of 7 and spend the same amount of money anyway since you’re paying for FP. Win win for Disney.

It may be stress free for you as you and many others that have trained meticulously for years for all the hoops that need to be jumped through between advanced bookings for ADRs and FPs (so you need to know exactly what you'll be doing down to the hour 2 months out, and hope what you want is what you get works out).

Every time I sit down with a friend who is trying to plan their first Disney Vacation and start walking them through all of this, they look at me cross eyed and say "what what?!?!? I have to micro-manage all of this stuff?". And then even worse they say "We're going because we want to go to 'Star Wars Land' and you're telling me there's a good chance I won't get to ride the best ride???".

This system might be great for those in the know who go often and have been indoctrinated into the system, have gotten good at it, and it's just accepted that it's what you need to do. But to the average vacationer just trying to plan a stress free and fun family trip, to them it's a confusing and stressful set of hoops.
I 100% agree with this. I didn't go the 1st time until 2019 and it was overwhelming. Heck I started to plan 2x before and stopped bc it was too much. The extended fam we go with prefer to wing it and are happy to let me do all the planning. which I've become pretty good at. But then I stress at finding the balance between making sure we hit all the things on our list and being too militant with the schedule. When we went in March this year I absolutely loved the lack of planning required bc there were no FP and dining was only 60 days. It was so much more enjoyable being able to only have to know what park I was going to on what day ahead of time. Then all I needed to worry about while there was rope dropping to get the hard ride at each park. I am very much looking forward to our next vacation which is Universal and having express pass so I don't even have to worry about rope dropping. Don't get me wrong, even with all the planning Disney is fun, but it in no way feels like a vacation because of all the planning and pounding the app while your there trying to get more fp.

Yea but if everyone shortens their stay to 4 days if the average was 7, that just means more availability opens up and if there’s demand, it will fill. So regardless of how long someone’s trip is or changes because of this, it will come down to capacity x demand that will determine how busy it is, not length of stay. I would think

It would also drive people to add on park hoppers. If you are only there for 3 days then you may want the park hopper vs when you stayed 7 days and did one park a day.

i think Disney's gold has been tarnished for a while now, just my opinion of course, as someone that has been going since the beginning

This has been me for a while now as well. For me DW is far too crowded and too many hoops to jump through in order to have a great vacation considering the cost.

I want to go again to experience Galaxy's Edge but I'm not dumping $1000s of dollars to go and potentially not get on RotR. My money at the moment is better spent elsewhere like Universal.
