D23 Expo September 9-11, 2022 Superthread **Updates in Posts 2 & 3**

Fingers cross that pins are left when your there!!! I really appreciate it if you could help me out! Im not sure if they are limiting it to 1 per person or not. Hoping to get 2 if possible of chip n dale.
They were sold out of everything but the inside out posters and a couple others but not the pins either of us wanted I’m sorry! :(

I watched part of the live stream of the Parks panel and that was pretty disappointing IMO.

I said this in the other thread as well, but I didn't think Josh did that great. I actually think Chapek did a better job IMO presenting in 2017 and 2019, but again, he had actual announcements so that helps.

Did I miss it or did they not talk about Tiana’s Palace at Disneyland?

We know where the shop is going to go, but what about Tiana’s Palace?

I have to assume it’s replacing something (Cafe Orleans? French Market? Hungry Bear?). Did they say or not?

It's not about Moana, it's the sea creatures she would encounter. That would be the tie-in. I do think Zootopia would make more sense.
Didn’t they say that the Dino area was being replaced by a Zootopia and Moana area? Or was that just part of the awkward “maybe” section?

If it is a sea creature area at Animal Kingdom, that would make sense, although not to be confused with the existing sea creature area at Epcot nor with the not-even-open-yet Moana area at Epcot.

It seems like if they like water and sea creature themes so much, they need to make some more movies that take place there so they have more IP spread around!

Yeah it's not a certainly. They were just sharing their very early ideas. And yes, sea creature area tied-in with Moana and/or Zootopia is what they're thinking. But nothing's certain.

I think they're just letting us know they are thinking of what's next.

It was Blue Sky which is very much subject to change

Questions from a total novice (for Sunday):

I'm considering skipping the Parks panel and hitting smaller stuff all day.

The schedule for Sunday lines up nicely if I do that (basically every other hour): Don Hahn, Tron, Animation Treasures, Ambassadors, WDW Book.
Btw - my low-effort plan worked shockingly well.

After Don's panel was cancelled, I decided to hit DCA and get an early Guardians ride in, then head over.

I found a huge security line on Katella, and decided to go through security at Will Call to pick up a Disney+ card. When I asked where to go next, they let me head in, so I unintentionally bypassed that huge line.

I hit the show floor during the parks panel, got into MOG, then did those next three panels in order, hit the last of the show floor (and most of the other main stores, which were standby) plus Walt's plane (no line), then hit the last panel. I felt like I got to do everything that I wanted to do after all.

(To be fair, I failed to eat all day - fortunately made up for that afterward.)

A really fun first Expo experience. Huge thanks to everyone for the advice and comments in the thread.

Definitely a highs and lows expo for me. Most of my issues were self inflicted due to bad blisters on my feet making walking difficult plus I tweaked my hip on RSR at CA and then slipped a bit Friday while it was raining to make my back ache. So, I limited my walking and waits so didn’t do everything I wanted.

Disappointing was the way they loaded the panels for RSP. Both Hall D23 and Premiere loaded in ways that those who arrived early did not get good viewing spots.

Highs were actually just hanging out at the Live Stage and a woman just randomly offering for me to be her +1 for MOG. The Lice Stage has me watching many interviews such as Brie Larsen, cast of Moon Girl, and many more. The best was the Star Trivia today.

I hope everyone had at least a good time overall.

That was nice being able to walk into all the shops today

So the panels in hall d23 have always loaded in weird. Section B is center if that’s what you are trying for. In 2019 they let you pick your section based on wristband availability not sure if they was the case this time.

Oh I completely understand the sections and chose section C because there were only 10-12 people in that section while B had about 4-5 rows full. Based on their own map they showed they did not put us in Section C.

I’ve been reading the comments of the past few days, much of which have concentrated on issues with the Hall D23 panels. While I did attend the Movies and Parks major sessions, the best sessions by far were the relatively smaller ones. Marty Sklars archives panel with his family and Leslie Iwerks, the upcoming 100th preview exhibit at the Franklin Institute, seeing rare videos and hearing rare audios in several panels, speaking with Leonard Maltin, and, yes, even a fully attended Duffy panel. Early morning shopping with no lines, meeting fellow Disney enthusiasts and panels that didn’t require standing on Katella overnight is why I had a great time at the Expo. Maybe those who didn’t should next time forego some of those larger sessions.

Our feet really hurt but we had a really good time this weekend. DH and I are waiting for our connecting flight to get home so I thought I'd reflect on the experience and share it here in case anyone's interested:

-Friday: shopped at MOG and the expo Marketplace, walked the overwhelmingly large expo floor, then finished with the Mousequerade, which was very entertaining. Nina West was particularly so with her opening act in which her dress continually transformed into different princess dresses.

-Saturday: didn't make it into the Imagineering morning panel that we wanted but that's ok, we walked the expo floor more and got another shopping VQ to pick up an Aristocats blanket we had missed previously. Then went to the Muppets panel, which was amazing--first time we saw them in person and Brian Henson and the other panelists had great stories. Then Jodi Benson, the Muppets and Nina West sang to us! Finished the day at DCA for Oogie Boogie Bash, which was a blast, not least because @Tiggerette @lily_belle and @HeadNerd were there for the light up at Cars Land. And Madam Mim was my favorite treat trail!

-Sunday we made it to the Parks panel thanks to our RSP; they had some nice performances and gave us treats. The announcements were light on immediate big projects but I'm excited about the upcoming DCL and DCA stuff, and hopeful for the MK and AK stuff. After lunch, I picked up two Mickey watches at Citizen (they were having extra discounts that day and I couldn't resist). Then we went to a panel hosted by the Animation Research Library that was pretty cool, they showed us some never-before-seen footage of reference acting used by animators. Mark Henn and Eric Goldberg were there 🙂

We ended the day with the Conversations with Character Voices panel, and this was the highlight of the whole expo for us. DH almost had to drag me in there because I was so tired, but I'm sooo glad I went. The voices of Goofy, Donald, Mickey, Minnie, Ariel, Tiana, Jasmine, Aladdin, Megara, along with the multi-voices Jim Cummings, all told cool stories. Aladdin and Jasmine performed a scene from the movie. But the best part was a surprise finale performance of I'll Make a Man Out of You by Donny Osmond (voice of Shang in Mulan), with cool costumes and backup dancers... it was so awesome! People were crying. So was I.

Overall, the expo was a very entertaining experience for us and worth the cost of our tickets imo. I'm grateful for all the super useful info shared on this thread, special shout out to @dina444444 for answering this newbie's questions throughout the weekend! Anyway looking forward to the next one.
