The Villas at Disney's Grand Californian Owners & Lovers Group - 2.0

I’m here at VGC… this is my first DVC stay ever due to not being able to take our planned summer trip… maybe it helps to be a newbie as we have ZERO complaints. Yes, the room (a 1BR) could use a bit of a refresh but overall I love it. Two bathrooms, spacious kitchen, view of the park, what’s not to love! Amazing use of my non-VGC points.

Or will we need to have groceries delivered? Can we have groceries delivered before we arrive, and if so, will they hold them at the desk or put them in the room?

We arrived last Saturday and used Shipt for grocery delivery from Target. Our shopper left them at bell services and texted us a picture of the claim ticket. We called down when we were in the room and they brought them up. We had frozen, refrigerated, and non perishable items. They all made it.

How did the VGC thread get hijacked into a WDW thread???? 🤔
This is the Disboards way. VGC threads become VDH threads, VDH become VGC, almost everyone in the "main" threads completely exclude VGC and VDH when talking about "the best resorts" (a fact we like to jump into and make fun of them a little when they argue about how great the location is for XYZ WDW resort.... we all know VGC is the best).

Speaking of which. I'm tempted to let go a VGC reservation I have for late summer and switch over to VDH to try a garden studio. I think it might be peak pool time and that garden studio looks like fun. Plus I can bank these VGC points into the next year and have more points for my 2BRs and such.....

I'm wondering how many points will end up being the 'right' amount for us. Right now we have 160 and it's good for our yearly trip in a studio for the times of year we usually travel. But it wouldn't be enough if we wanted to go during a more expensive time. And obviously not enough if we wanted to switch to a 1 bedroom. So I wonder how many points is ideal for 6-7 nights per year in a 1-bedroom. We typically go in January/February/June/December. But in future years, I could see us going in almost ANY month. Especially once our son is out of school. The price difference for a week in slow times vs more expensive times is kind of a lot. I assume it makes the most sense to try to get enough points to cover the most expensive time we'd travel (basically anytime minus actual holidays.) And then on years we stay during a more value time, I guess if we had extra points we just plan an extra trip? Or bank? Or rent out? I don't want to constantly have an excess though. How do you find the right balance? Planning extra trips won't always been an option for us.

Also, it seems like most VGC resale contracts I see are for 50,100 or 160 points. Or much higher which I think would be too much for us. So I'm guessing maybe those will be our main choices for our June UY.

I wish I knew what prices were going to do in the future so I'd know the best time to try to buy more. In general, I imagine they will go down at some point when there are less years....but maybe not until close to the end?

FYI - Early Entry details changed last week!! We did not realize this, and I happened to stumble on it while prepping for a trip in a few months. Apparently early entry is now 30 minutes instead of an hour. There are also a list of rides and shops that will typically be open and they're different from what we're used to. No more riding Radiator Springs or Toy Story Mania early. We found the info on mouseplanet (https://www.mouseplanet.com/16477/Disneyland_Resort_Update_for_January_22_2024#news2), but I did verify it on Disneyland's official website.

Ugh that is so annoying. We are going tomorrow and I have park reservations for the opposite park on each day! :(

Does anyone know if it is difficult to get a crib for baby to sleep in upon arrival at VGC? I'm really hoping I don't have to bring the travel bassinet with us on our trip tomorrow.

We've always found a pack n play in the closet of the 1 and 2 bedroom (dedicated). You can probably even get a real crib if you do a chat w member services before you leave home.

We usually book the opposite park because the crowds are over at the Early Entry park…

How far in advance will I be able to see which parks have EE? We're never up early so we won't use them. But I already made our park reservations for June and didn't see which days will be EE in each park.

If you are on property just use the “hack” and view your booking for park reservations through your hotel stay via the my plans on Disneyland website. Good chance the whole week is open and you can rebook.

Edit - just checked and it’s wide open.

Due to the on property hack it doesn’t really matter. You can change or add pretty easily even a few days out.
