2024 Destash Dare to be Bare!

Donation pickup was on Thursday again. I get texts/email every 6 weeks or so if I have anything.

A few weeks ago, my DH passed. It was really unexpected and still find it hard to talk about. I am browsing here and there. Posting, here and there. Married almost 42 years. Together almost 24/7 last 17 years. Can't even begin to express my feelings, the loss, how much I miss him. This should be a whole other post.

Thankful for my (can't wrap my head around not saying "our") small house, I can keep up with it. Still love my area and my neighbors.

Having said that, I had already started a donation pile for this last pick up - mostly got rid of what I had left still in packages - wedding/party favors. A few/not all - High heel shoes I don't think I will wear again after I broke my foot and ankle last year. Some shirts and just a few things from my DH. No where near ready to clean up/get rid of his things. I can still smell him on flannel shirts/sweatshirts/jackets he wore over his shirts. I need this desperately.

It is forcing me to slowly, eventually start to donate many things moving forward. I might consider a condo in the future/if one comes up where one of my daughter-in-law's parents bought a few years ago. I would be close to them (great people) and a few minutes closer to both my sons. Closer to the bridge where the ride to my daughter would also be 20/25 mins shorter. This has to make me clean-up and get rid of things that I don't need/not necessary.

I don't have much desire for anything - but the walls will swallow me soon if I don't try to do a thing or two that I used to do.

I'm so sorry about the loss of your DH.

So very sorry for your loss. Try to get out of your house for a while each day. Take a class start a weekly coffee club. I work at a Panera and almost every day there are different groups of people coming in.

Thank you so much.

Every thing I do is forced/things that I have to get done. I am attending mass as much as I can during the week while still trying to make calls, filling out papers, notarize papers, Post Office, etc. I want to try to get back to the gym soon. We both went to a class twice a week which we loved. I know it will be hard. I am trying to attend the grandchildren's baseball games, etc. I just cannot imagine my life going on like this without him :(. I know - I will try soon. Thank you.

I am so sorry for your loss. I can see how much you loved him. Your strength and resilience is amazing. Take the time you need, get the support you deserve, and I hope the memories of your love will be stronger than the grief. :grouphug:

Had a semi productive day. DH took 2 televisions, a microwave,an old printer and an old air cleaner to an electronic drop off.

DD and I had an garage sale. Didn’t get rid of a lot but overall made a $100. My neighborhood is having one in 2 weeks so we are going to keep sorting and do it again

Our local hospital had a recycle day today too - I didn't take anything, but drove by and it was packed!

This is a popular one that is yearly. A few years back DD and I got in line by mistake. We waited quite awhile thinking it was the line to park at the mall lol. I warned my husband that it might take awhile but he was in and out in15 minutes

I just popped in to ask a quick question. How do you all price items for sale?

I have a lot of "stuff". We had very little money when I was young, and we were taught to never waste anything or get rid of anything because you might need it someday. I'm trying to fix that mindset a bit because I'm overwhelmed with "things". But I also need money for an assortment of things that I need to deal with.

I'm starting to write up some ads to sell things. A lot of it is new (still in packaging), but not everything. I don't even know how to come up with a "fair" price. Please help? :) There must be some sort of formula people use.

Have a lofty goal of purging and organizing all rooms/closets/spaces in our house this summer. 24 in total and most of them will take multiple days to complete. Starting with our master closet. This past week I went through my shelf of shorts/jeans/lounge pants and posted 30 pairs (!!!) for sale on Poshmark. Absolute insanity how many I held onto for "when they fit again." 3 babies later they likely aren't ever fitting again lol Waiting to see if my sister wants any of the shoes and then I'll post the remainder of those for sale as well. Goal for this week is to finish the closet.

I've had really good luck with posting at 40-50% off the retail price if it is brand new (if it retails for $50, I'll price between $25-$30, for example) and 50-60% off the retail price if it is in excellent used condition. Good luck!!!

If I sell something our local facebook trading page and it's a more valuable item, I'll usually look on ebay to see how much it's selling for and then deduct about 20% or so that it would cost in ebay / CC fees / time messing with it, and start there. We often have people offer less, so I figure it's a good starting place.

If it's cheaper things, I try to do a low-ish price and then offer porch pickup (where I set it on our front porch in a bag and they come by to pick it up and leave the money under the rug). That being said, I live in a small town and it's never for much money. It's just so much easier not having to set a time and place to meet! It saves enough time that I figure if someone doesn't leave money, it would be worth all of the time saved for when it has worked. I've never not had someone leave the money. The one time I thought it happened, I messaged the person nicely asking about it and they had left it in my mailbox.

It depends on how you are trying to sell items. When I am listing items on line I try to see what people are asking for similar items and then price a little less. Take into account condition of items. Be sure to account for shipping.

For low value items you can try having a garage sale.I found this weekend people are paying more than they did in past years. My daughter sold several items for more than I expected but she had people interested that knew the true value of her items

Thanks everyone! I'm trying through facebook marketplace, and I did post one new thing today for about 60% of the sticker price new (before tax or anything). Someone messaged me asking if they could send me money right away and pick it up Tuesday within 20 minutes of posting and they didn't question the price. I had multiple offers, some trying to outbid. So I thought maybe I was undervaluing it. But I've had other things posted for 20% of sticker price and not had any interest. Maybe it depends on the item.
