BEST. DAY. EVER. May '17 w/Chunkymonkey and Chubbyhubby NEW 8/28 x2 THE END!!

Day 1 Part 1: Magical Express, indeed.

We woke pretty early, planning to take a ME bus at around 8:30-9am. But, first things first. It was actually our ADR day for our Oct/November trip. So at 7am I logged into the MDE app and made some reservations (which I have since changed up, LOL). I didn’t really give it much thought but I booked places we hadn’t eaten yet this year, as well as some old favorites. I also made DH call Victoria and Albert’s to get an ADR for that week since it’s our anniversary. They did not open until 9am so I decided to call later.

We got ready, checked out, and headed down to the food court. I just wanted a bite to eat, and we ended up sharing a breakfast bowl from Mo’s Southwest grill. It was huge! More than enough food for DH and I. It had scrambled eggs, cheese, taco beef, salsa and some jalepenos and sour cream. Tasty!

Bellies more than satisfied, we headed down to ME. The last time we took ME was during Princess Half Marathon weekend, and it was PACKED. No, that’s an understatement, it was a MADHOUSE. Here’s a picture from February. It was about 40 minutes before we got on a bus. Not even at a park yet and they make us wait! Are there FP for this? Haha.

Pic from February. You can't even see the ME kiosks, that's how far the line went back.

Needless to say that image of a crowded ME was stamped into our minds so imagine our amazed faces when we saw this:

I wasn't expecting huge crowds or anything but to see ME so empty is rather...nice!! :thumbsup2

There was barely a handful of people on line for the buses. It was lovely. We shared a bus with people from Caribbean Beach and Yacht/Beach club. When we got on the bus there was plenty of space so we sat in the front row again, because…why not? That allowed me to take this picture entering the WDW resort area:

As we were on our way I called V and A back at 9am and someone took a message and said they would call right back.

The first stop was CBR, and then the Boardwalk. I think we were the only people getting off at Boardwalk. This was our first time staying here. Normally I’d enter the Boardwalk from the actual Boardwalk area so to enter from the lobby level was different. It’s a beautiful lobby. Definitely seemed recently re-done, and had a lovely Victorian charm.

Of course when it was our turn to check in, I get a call from V and A. So I had DH check in while I nodded or shook my head at him because since he didn’t do the planning he had no idea which side we were staying on (Inn or Villa. We were Villa). They fortunately had a room ready right then, so yay!

When Victoria and Albert's calls, you take the call.

The V and A person was really helpful but she was having some difficulty booking a table for us. The Chef’s Table was fully booked for that week. That’s ok I expected that since it is food and wine season, and all the foodies are out in full force then. :) But I requested the Queen Victoria room which is where we ate in last time. She found availability but couldn’t book it, so she said she’d call me back when they figured out their system issues.

After we were checked in, I went next to the concierge desk. I wanted to try something out on this trip, the Express Bus option. For 29 dollars per person, you get unlimited rides between parks WITHOUT having to go through bag check. That is the price for up to 7 days. Per day it is 19 dollars, so definitely if you're staying for longer than a few days and intend to park hop, it is worth it to get the week-long pass. I thought this was a novel idea so I wanted to test it out this week. She added it to our accounts so now it was on our Magic Bands and we could start using it immediately. Awesome!

We headed to our room on the Villa side, which is the side closest to DHS. We passed by the gym which is right where the elevators are. The gym is called Muscles and Bustles, which is really cute. Our room was on the 5th floor, room 5034. It was a studio room with pool/garden view. I think many people complain about how the Boardwalk has really long corridors. Let me tell you. Nothing is worse than staying in the farthest Garden Wing Room at the Contemporary. Even though our room wasn’t near the elevators, it wasn’t all that bad of a walk compared to February.

Our room was adorable! I thought it was very cute and I liked the coastal color scheme with the pop of red for color. I wish the bathroom had 2 sinks though and I thought the bathtub area could be a little bigger. But overall loved the room and the view. However, I do think the beds are a little to soft for me. (I like a firm with a pillow top, and I think these were all plush)

When we opened the doors to the balcony we were greeted with this view. Pretty cool to see Tower of Terror from your room!

And the scary clown water slide...but I tried to ignore that part. Hahaha. #PoltergeistFears :clown:

After we unpacked a bit we headed out to our very first park...EPCOT! Coming up...

Subscribing. Can't wait to hear about your best day!
I will be staying at the Hyatt mco for my upcoming trip. Glad to read that it's nice.

Thanks for reading! The Hyatt MCO is nice but I think it's in need of some renovation in their rooms. However they are clean and are convenient which is what counts. They do have robes though which is a nice touch. Hope you enjoy your stay there!

Looking forward to following alongI love your trip reports.
Yay for first class
Boo for being sent to the rear :sad2:
Can't wait to read about you're best day EVER!
DD and I have a last minute trip in 2 weeks and I just scored Bon Voyage breakfast :cool1:
Anxiously awaiting your review :goodvibes

Oh awesome! Bon Voyage was fun. Food was ok some parts better than others, But I liked the theme.
Yeah Boo to being sent back to the steerage bathrooms....but I did think they were nice. (It was a new plane)

Joining in, glad to find your new report. Excited to hear about your best day ever! We rented points at BWV last October and loved it. I hope you liked your room.

Yay! Thanks for reading! We really loved the room, the view, and the location. It's awesome.

I'm here! :wave2: So excited to read this!

Hi Kelly!! Sounds like you enjoyed your trip to California too!

So cool that you got to upgrade to first class, but what a drag about having to use the bathroom in the back! I'm just passive aggressive enough that I would have asked if the first class loo was broken when told to use "the commoner's bathroom" and if I was told no I would have been all" well I'm sitting in first class, why can't I use this one??"

Yeah maybe I shouda done that, But I really thought it was broken! LOL. The whole situation was funny in the end. though.
I was sent back to steerage!

Glad you had an uneventful flight though!

Thank goodness, If we had been delayed I'd been all over the bathroom thing. Hahaha.

I've never stayed at the Hyatt MCO, but what a great idea for a late night arrival. How does that work with the ME the next day? Do you just give them a fake flight # for the next day?

You just give them your regular flight number and but for the day youre taking ME. They don't really care what time it arrives, as long as it arrives on the same date you have a resort reservation. So I just fudged the dates a bit and all was well! I need to remind myself to do that for our next trip!

Looking forward to reading more!

Thanks Kelly!!

So excited to read your next report, especially your review of Boardwalk Villas, we'll be staying there in October!

Boardwalk pictures posted! We really loved it. The location was awesome. Wished Boardwalk Bakery opened a little later though.

I'm here I'm here!! Dh and I were in Las Vegas last week but I saw your posts on Instragram so I knew there would be a report :)

Well aren't you miss fancy pants in first class :rotfl2: Man, now I'm forever going to want to know WHAT do the first class bathrooms look like inside?:scratchin

Yay!!

I tried and failed miserably at being a First Class flyer.
I'm sure they look like the ones in coach. LOL

Following along! Great TR :) Sounds like a fantastic trip. I couldn't believe the pic of the DME crowds from Feb! We have always been in Sept/May and it's like your second pic, almost a private coach. I think I would be horrified to see the crowds :(

I dyed my hair a temporary red/burgundy. You couldn't see it too well in the dark but in the sun it looked pretty red.
Probably going to cut most of it off pretty soon anyways.

Oh, it looks sweet! I'm planning to do the same process right before the wedding: dye my hair (just to freshen it up/give it a little warmth) and then cut it all off after. :P

Side note: maybe because United is hurting for some business but I was offered an upgrade us to first class on our departing flight for a very good price so I took it.

Awesome! We've only been upgraded to first once or twice in my life, but it's always a nice added bonus :)

I didn’t know whether to laugh or be mad. I paid for first class and I didn’t even get to use the first class facilities.

But maybe I just don’t look like I belong in first class. :rotfl:

Yeah, this is my question! Why did she question you using that bathroom in the first place? Why WOULDN'T you be in first? That's so funny!

I also made DH call Victoria and Albert’s to get an ADR for that week since it’s our anniversary. They did not open until 9am so I decided to call later.

Ooh exciting! What a wonderful way to treat yourselves :)

Awesome!

I'm interested to see what you thought of this! I don't know that we'll do enough park hopping the next two trips to make it worth it, but possibly.

When we opened the doors to the balcony we were greeted with this view. Pretty cool to see Tower of Terror from your room!

What an amazing view! Your room is really lovely (with a few minor complaints.) Looks like Boardwalk is shaping up pretty nicely so far!

Hello! Joining in on the fun here! you really did have a nice view...except for the clown! Can't wait to read more in your report!

Side note: maybe because United is hurting for some business but I was offered an upgrade us to first class on our departing flight for a very good price so I took it. Unfortunately we were not given the same offer on our return flight, although for the same price I could upgrade to Economy Plus. No thank you.

Oh I just I can't imagine why they'd be hurting for business :rotfl:

The nice thing about being in Terminal B is that we get to use a lounge there, called Art and Lounge. One of my credit cards gives us lounge access so we spent the majority of time there. They provide a small buffet of food, pasta, chicken, salads, cookies, plus lots of sodas and drinks. We got to charge our phones and use wifi. It is pre-security though so we left about 45 minutes before our boarding time just so we could go through security at a decent time. Fortunately we are also pre-check. It didn’t matter though, the security lines were completely empty pre-check or no pre-check. Apparently the best time to fly is a Tuesday evening.

Whoa, how nice to have that lounge! Phone charging stations and wifi are always a plus!

Look an extra 3.75 inches of leg room. Gosh what a TREAT.

First class luxury right there :rotfl2:

I didn’t know whether to laugh or be mad. I paid for first class and I didn’t even get to use the first class facilities.

At least they didn't beat you up or kick you off? Silver linings? ;)

Best Day Ever? A resounding no...I mean I'm glad we arrived safely in Orlando with no hiccups, but I wasn't given the first class treatment that I paid for...:rotfl:

Probably better off just sticking with economy next time :rotfl:

Needless to say that image of a crowded ME was stamped into our minds so imagine our amazed faces when we saw this:

That is ALWAYS a great thing to see when you arrive! :thumbsup2

You know, I've stayed at Beach Club more times than I can count but I don't think I've ever actually been in the lobby at Boardwalk. It's so pretty!

The little cabinet was the only set of drawers. There were extra pillows and blankets in it and we just took it out and put our clothes in the drawers. Wish there were more drawers in the room, but there is also a large closet in the bathroom area.

This is the only issue I had with the refurbished villas at Beach Club - there was NO storage space. At least ya'll had this set of drawers, the studio villa at Beach Club had like...nothing. Unless there was some hidden area I am not aware of! I thought it was kinda bizarre for a deluxe resort to not have drawers and/or storage space

What a fantastic view! Can't beat that!

we ended up sharing a breakfast bowl from Mo’s Southwest grill.

That looks really tasty! That's a much better breakfast than some ol' muffin or bagel!

I wasn't expecting huge crowds or anything but to see ME so empty is rather...nice!! :thumbsup2

AMAZING! Quite a difference from February! :thumbsup2

That allowed me to take this picture entering the WDW resort area:

Great picture of the welcome sign!

She found availability but couldn’t book it, so she said she’d call me back when they figured out their system issues.

I hope you got your ADR! I'd love another of your reviews on V&A! :goodvibes

I wanted to try something out on this trip, the Express Bus option. For 29 dollars per person, you get unlimited rides between parks WITHOUT having to go through bag check.

I'm REALLY interested to see what you thought of this! In my older age (ha!) I've started returning to the resort in the afternoon before heading out to the park in the evening, but I'd seriously consider this if I traveled again during the cooler months.

Our room was adorable! I thought it was very cute and I liked the coastal color scheme with the pop of red for color.

It's a very nice room!

Was it strange to be without a bedside table lamp? The lighting in the room (including the light seeming to hang right in front of the TV?) seems to be the biggest downside.

Pretty cool to see Tower of Terror from your room!

:thumbsup2:thumbsup2

I think that's the best part! (As long as you ignore the clown. ;) )

I was sent back to steerage!

Haha! I was going to say that at first

You just give them your regular flight number and but for the day youre taking ME.

Oh ok, makes sense. I'll have to try that sometime.

Forgot to mention I love the red color you put in your hair! Very pretty! And glad that you liked the BW. I wish the rooms had a bit more "Disneyflair" but can't have everything!

So you were happy with renting DVC points rather than reserving a room? It's an idea I have been kicking around if we ever get back to WDW.

And the scary clown water slide...but I tried to ignore that part. Hahaha. #PoltergeistFears :clown:

OMG - that movie traumatized me when I was a kid. I still cannot watch it now.

We booked V&A QV room for our Wine & Dine trip too. I wanted 11/3 but got 11/5 instead. She said that 11/3 is the special F&W meal. It's expensive, but since this is for my bday, I might splurge when it comes out:)

And the scary clown water slide...but I tried to ignore that part. Hahaha. #PoltergeistFears :clown:

What a great experience on Magical Express. Can't complain about that at all!!

We booked BWV renting points for an upcoming trip! Thanks for all the pics- it is helping me get excited!! We have a pool/garden view too and my husband keeps calling the clown the 'Pooltergeist'. :rotfl2:

Following along! Great TR :) Sounds like a fantastic trip. I couldn't believe the pic of the DME crowds from Feb! We have always been in Sept/May and it's like your second pic, almost a private coach. I think I would be horrified to see the crowds :(

Thanks for reading! It was a wonderful trip.
Yeah the crowds in Feb kinda deterred me from doing another race weekend type trip. Of course we will be back for the Wine and Dine 5k but we booked that trip before they announced the race, haha.
Early May was pretty awesome!

Like night and day with ME from February.
We love BWI it's beautiful and you can't beat the location. I love your view except for the clown :scared1:

Totally, it was like a "whole new world" hahaha.
Yeah creepy clown threw me off a bit but still it was a nice view. I don't' know why they still have that clown there. Don't they know clowns are not cute?!?

GREAT report so far! Can't wait to read more!

Thank you!!!

Oh, it looks sweet! I'm planning to do the same process right before the wedding: dye my hair (just to freshen it up/give it a little warmth) and then cut it all off after. :P

Good idea! My red is faded now though...it's kinda like a weird color. Not sure I'll have time to do anything before next weekend so I may just have orange-y hair. LOL

Awesome! We've only been upgraded to first once or twice in my life, but it's always a nice added bonus :)

I used to fly for business and that was nice. International first class is so different from domestic. I don't think I'll pay to upgrade again unless it was ridiculously cheap.

Yeah, this is my question! Why did she question you using that bathroom in the first place? Why WOULDN'T you be in first? That's so funny!

I am not even sure why she questioned me. She didn't recognize me initially is what I thought. But I'm like, you served me my per-flight drink...LOL!!

Ooh exciting! What a wonderful way to treat yourselves :)

It is! Still thinking about our yummy dinner last year!

I'm interested to see what you thought of this! I don't know that we'll do enough park hopping the next two trips to make it worth it, but possibly.

I wouldn't do it for short trips unless you will be park hopping a lot. For longer trips I think it may be a good idea just because the cost per day is reduced and it's always nice to have. We did add more park hops just to use it but it was so easy to do so.

What an amazing view! Your room is really lovely (with a few minor complaints.) Looks like Boardwalk is shaping up pretty nicely so far!

The room was pretty. We enjoyed it. The Boardwalk is slightly different, first of all their quick service place is the Boardwalk Bakery, which is tiny compared to other quick service spots at resorts. Also it closed earlier than we expected. It's where you get and use your refillable mugs too. But location wise, awesome. Really spoiled by being able to walk to Epcot. I think we took the ferry only from DHS and never from Epcot.

Love your TR! Give it up for NJ!

Thank you!! Yay for the Garden State!

Yay! Glad I found your new one so quickly :)

Hi Elle!

Seriously my favorite lobby! I've never been as comfortable in a hotel lobby as I was there!

It was really pretty, and felt like a Victorian house. Definitely has a home-y vibe.

Creepy clown aside that is a great view!

It was! I don't know why they think clowns are cool?!? No clowns for me!

Hello! Joining in on the fun here! you really did have a nice view...except for the clown! Can't wait to read more in your report!

Thank you!! Everyone mentions the clown when I tell them I have a pool view. LOL. But then I can also see ToT which is pretty cool.

Great Boardwalk pics!

Thank you!!

Oh I just I can't imagine why they'd be hurting for business :rotfl:

Seriously...

Whoa, how nice to have that lounge! Phone charging stations and wifi are always a plus!

It's much better than the United lounge which is paltry at best.

First class luxury right there :rotfl2:

yeah, can't imagine paying double for this!!

At least they didn't beat you up or kick you off? Silver linings? ;)

I was going to volunteer as tribute if things got a little testy...

Probably better off just sticking with economy next time :rotfl:

YES.

That is ALWAYS a great thing to see when you arrive! :thumbsup2

Yeah sooooo grateful for the lower crowds

You know, I've stayed at Beach Club more times than I can count but I don't think I've ever actually been in the lobby at Boardwalk. It's so pretty!

It's a beautiful lobby. I daresay even nicer than the Beach Club.

I dont' know what is up with that. Where do they expect people to store their stuff?!? Especially with a family...just confused.

What a fantastic view! Can't beat that!

It was awesome, even with the clown!

That looks really tasty! That's a much better breakfast than some ol' muffin or bagel!

It was very tasty and filling!

AMAZING! Quite a difference from February! :thumbsup2

I can't tell you how relieved we felt when we saw no lines!! I hope next week is similar....

Great picture of the welcome sign!

Thanks! Perks of the front seat. :)

I hope you got your ADR! I'd love another of your reviews on V&A! :goodvibes
Spoiler: We did get an ADR, but for Nov 2nd, which is the day before the 5k. Not a big deal since our dinner is at 5:30pm, but it will be rather rich I'm sure.

I'm REALLY interested to see what you thought of this! In my older age (ha!) I've started returning to the resort in the afternoon before heading out to the park in the evening, but I'd seriously consider this if I traveled again during the cooler months.

It is awesome, I highly recommend this service even if you just have a little bit of park hopping. Getting to eliminate the lines to get into a park is worth 30 bucks a week for me.

It's a very nice room!

Indeed it was!

Was it strange to be without a bedside table lamp? The lighting in the room (including the light seeming to hang right in front of the TV?) seems to be the biggest downside.

There's a big light above the bed. Only downside is that it affects both people in bed. So if someone doesn't want light and the other does...well tough! LOl. Good thing DH sleeps in any condition.

I think that's the best part! (As long as you ignore the clown. ;) )

Yes! Ignore the clown! Don't know how they thought that was a good idea. Don't they know people are traumatized by IT?

Haha! I was going to say that at first

I'll stick to the cheap seats in the back now.

Oh ok, makes sense. I'll have to try that sometime.

I just did it for next week's trip!

Forgot to mention I love the red color you put in your hair! Very pretty! And glad that you liked the BW. I wish the rooms had a bit more "Disneyflair" but can't have everything!

thank you! It's faded now so it's like a orange-red. Not sure what to do with it before next week but maybe I will just dye it back to my original color.

So you were happy with renting DVC points rather than reserving a room? It's an idea I have been kicking around if we ever get back to WDW.

Yes I did really like renting DVC points, because it's so much cheaper than getting a room rate for the same resort. Yes you don't get the maid service but I was ok with that. The only this is that some DVC owners are more responsive than others so it's really luck of the draw.

OMG - that movie traumatized me when I was a kid. I still cannot watch it now.

My thoughts exactly!

We booked V&A QV room for our Wine & Dine trip too. I wanted 11/3 but got 11/5 instead. She said that 11/3 is the special F&W meal. It's expensive, but since this is for my bday, I might splurge when it comes out:)

oooh when are your trip dates again? Are you doing MNSSHP? I am toying on whether to book it for Halloween or Nov 1st. Obviously Oct 31 will be the most crowded of it all. Is it worth the extra money just to say you went on halloween? Hmmm. We got ours for Nov 2nd dinner. The F and W dinner sounds awesome. But there was nothing for the Queen Victoria Room for any other day that week. Nov 2nd is the day before the 5k. I think it should be fine, but I'd prefer a few days before or the night after we do the 5k, LOL.

What a great experience on Magical Express. Can't complain about that at all!!

Yes! That itself is very close to becoming a best day ever...hehehe..

We booked BWV renting points for an upcoming trip! Thanks for all the pics- it is helping me get excited!! We have a pool/garden view too and my husband keeps calling the clown the 'Pooltergeist'. :rotfl2:

Haha Pooltergeist! So clever!!! But that is definitely what IT is. Buahahaha.

The BW pool doesn't bother me but I DO NOT LIKE CLOWNS!! And it's all because of that movie.....

There was barely a handful of people on line for the buses. It was lovely.
That's what I like to see! ME is Steve least favorite part of Disney; he gets extremely impatient waiting in line to board the bus and even more impatient if we get on the bus and then sit there waiting for more than say, 10 minutes  But we've sat for 40 which sucked so I think he's always afraid that's going to happen again. I hope to see the area like that next week!

It’s a beautiful lobby. Definitely seemed recently re-done, and had a lovely Victorian charm.
It is beautiful, but I see those freaky old-time boy clowny weird chairs are still over by the fireplace lol!
We used to love the BWV and I know Steve would like to stay there again. I also know I should get past our bad experience during our 4th stay there 2 years ago but I can't..........maybe someday. I did feel a bit more at "home" there than at BC.

I wanted to try something out on this trip, the Express Bus option
Ooh, interested to see how you liked it! We used it in March but only for a day; totally getting it again next week :thumbsup2
