Canon S3

In certain situations,

I would keep it for the video alone! I know I will.

That would be a perfect opportunity to take along a camera like an S2. Focus won't be an issue, mostly nice lighting, and the ability to do video. Also gives you a free hand to round up those 7 kids you'll have with you! :scared1:

So anyway I wanted to get the 30D but heard possible the replacement for it might come out this fall. Anyone else heard that?

I dont want to get it then have the replacement show up a month or two laters.

You will drive yourself nuts always waiting for that next camera to be released. Then when it does come out you will go nuts trying to find it in stock somewhere. And then when you do something else new will still show up probably sooner than you think. I would say get it now and start taking pictures. :thumbsup2

Good advice Gdad! That's what I did and I won't even look at the new "30D" when it comes out. I'm sure that it won't be that much of an improvement that I would notice the difference. I'm already learning that there is much more of a learning curve with this camera than I had thought there would be so I'm glad I got it when I did.

If you get a decent deal and your camera retains its value well (as it probably will for a year or two), you can probably buy your camera of choice now and then eBay it later, with only an incremental upgrade cost when the next "gotta have" body comes along.

I've been lazy about putting my stuff on eBay but I've got two cameras about to go on that we did just that with... I've been in a similar boat, wondering what the next DSLR announcement is going to be for my system of choice.

I bought mine locally off of Craigslist which was nice because a) I didn't have to pay shipping and b) I could inspect it before I bought it.

I know about not wanting to play the waiting game but it just seems like with me, there have been several times if I had just waited a month or two I could have ended up with the better item...lol

I have a best buy card and I know every so often they offer 2 years same as cash. So I might wait for them to offer it on that camera again.

......yellow box showing up. For landscape shots anymore I just put it on manual and set it to infinity.....
If I get the yellow/orange box, it usually is due to little definition in object edges (the edge of a person, edge of a rock, etc). If I get that, I just look for a 'better' defined edge and refocus, usually comes up green then.

I had the S2 and had a terrible time keeping the lens cover on. Then I upgraded to the S5 and thought that problem would be fixed. It's worse!!! I resorted to scotch taping it on this morning!:sad2:
So what was Canon thinking????? How did this get past their testing dept (if they have one?)
If someone's lens gets damaged as a result of the lens cover not staying on, are they (Canon) going to be willing to replace it?
I love the camera but the lens cover was poorly designed!!!:confused3

TC:cool1:

It's partly because the lens cap won't stay on that I bought a Lensmate adapter and clip-in lens cap.

I guess Canon thought it was a better design to make a lens cap that pops off as soon as it's pressed on by the lens mechanism than additional sensors/software in the lens mechanism to stop if the cap's on. :confused3

Since I leave my adapter on nearly 100% of the time, it hasn't been an issue for me.

I have had my S2 for 2 years now. I haven't used my camera all that much because it is such a battery eater. Rechargeable and alkalines don't seem to last long at all. I use the viewfinder 95% of the time so that helps save battery life. Does anyone have good recommendations for batteries for this camera?? I really don't like having to carry around 8 spare batteries at a time!

Our S2 just started having the dreaded E18 error yesterday. So, has anyone solved it yet? I have tried compressed air around the lens. It will gradually work its way out, so it is not jammed. Considering that it is the secondary camera, I am not going to spend money to fix it.

Thanks,

Kevin

I have a Canon S2 IS and I'm looking for a shutter release either wired or not wired. Anyone have an recommendations? Does this camera even support one?

Hi, I have a Canon S2IS and I can't find my manual. In the two years I've had it, I've never tried the video recording aspect. I'd like to try this on my next WDW trip.

Can I use a 2g SD memory card to record with this camera? The most I've ever used was a 1g SD card, just for picture taking. Thanks!

While I don't know for sure, I know a 4gb SDHC works in my S3IS. So, I would guess that a 2gb would work with an S2. Why don't you put it in and give it a whirl?:thumbsup2

I think 2gb is as high as you can go on the S2 IS. I've recorded several videos with a 2gb card. If you set it up and let it go it will only do 15min at a time though.
