Pop Century Overview

'Are we there yet?' signDisney’s Pop Century Resort is a celebration of the second half of the 20th century's American pop culture. The resort's larger-than-life figures preserve the toys, fads, dance crazes, and catch phrases from the 1950’s through the 1990’s and remind us how we lived, played, and communicated. It is a trip down memory lane – figuratively and literally – as one can take a stroll on Pop’s Memory Lane – and read about highlights, fads and significant events that took place during these decades.

Shadow boxes fill the lobby displaying fads, fun and more from each of the 5 decades represented at Pop Century.

Disney’s Pop Century Resort was originally planned to be two separate resort areas featuring the Legendary Years (1910s-1940s) and the Classic Years (1950s-1990s), connected via the Generation Gap Bridge over Hourglass Lake. However, in May 2010, it was decided the unfinished Legendary Years resort would become a new value resort, named Disney's Art of Animation (AoA).

may be
decreased until further notice.

Reservations for Pop Century can be made in the following ways:

- Phone: 407.934.7639 (407-WDISNEY)

- with a travel agent

Maximum persons per Pop Century resort room is 4 (plus a child under the age of 3 in a pack ‘n play).

Pop Century is a bright, cheerful resort with large, colorful icons scattered throughout the property.

Pop Century offers 4 different room categories:

  • Standard
    • All Buildings
  • Standard Pool View
    • Buildings 1, 2 and 3 (50's section)
    • Buildings 7, 8 and 9 (80's and 90's section)
  • Preferred
    • Buildings 1 and 3 (50's section)
    • Buildings 4 and 5 (60's section)
    • Buildings 6 and 10 (70's section)
  • Preferred Pool View
    • Buildings 4 and 5 (60's section)
This map displays where each room category is offered. Those not marked with a colored line are standard room locations.
Map of Buildings with room category allocations

Guests may check-in online any time after an initial deposit is made for a reservation. General room requests (room location, connecting rooms, special requests, etc.) can be made on the MyDisneyExperience app* (MDE) or by calling the reservation number 407.934.7639 (407.WDISNEY) any time after making your reservation. Please note that requests are not guaranteed.

It is recommended to limit your room requests to 2 or 3, with the most important request listed first. Pop room assigners will do their best to honor these requests but there is no guarantee. If you would like to send a fax (407.938.4040), please keep in mind to do so no sooner than 10 days prior to arrival or later than 4 days prior to arrival.

A list of rooms and what type of room amenities they have (queen/king; shower/tub) is maintained here and updated as guests provide feedback on their room. A particular room may be requested but there is no guarantee the actual room will be assigned.

Updated May 21, 2023: Online check-in has been updated to request a time, 'Before 3:00PM' or, in 30 min increments after 3:00PM. E.g. 3:30, 4:00, 4:30, etc. until midnight. Guests arriving before 3:00 may wish to call Pop and add a note to their reservation indicating what time they will actually be arriving. There is still no guarantee that a room will be ready when you arrive but, it can't hurt to have it noted on your online check-in request(s).

Although not always guaranteed, connecting rooms are available by request; guests should mention this when making reservations. Adjoining rooms may not be joined with a door, they may just be close or on the same floor so if a door between rooms is desired, be sure to request connecting rooms.

(*Note: As of writing of this post Jan 1, 2021 there is a known error on the app allowing guests to only choose the 50’s or 70’s section for Standard Rooms. All 5 centuries have Standard Rooms so if you wish to request the 60’s, 80’s or 90’s, calling the reservation number is recommended.)

Options to select upon check-in on MDE change frequently and may include:

  • Decade (see below)
  • King bed (only one bed in these rooms and many are accessible rooms)
  • Ground floor
  • Higher floor
The following information may also assist you in creating your check-in requests. Please note that any requests are merely that and not a guarantee.

Room entrances displaying outdoor corridorsSomething to note is that rooms at Pop Century are designed more towards a motel style entrance with common outdoor corridors. The ‘view’ your room has will first be across approx. 4’ of common walkway and then through a metal railing.

Medical/Special Needs: If someone in your party has a medical or special need, please mention this to the cast member when making your reservation or call in these requests. For those guests with hearing impairments, Pop offers TTY phones, visual signals for fire alarms, phones, wake up alarms, and door knocks. There is also a bed shaker accessory. These items are available for use at no cost.

Accessible Rooms: Pop also offers a select number of accessible rooms with a variety of configurations. Some offer accessibility bars in the restroom and roll-in showers. This thread, Tape Measurements for Pop Roll-in shower room, bus, monorail, boats, DME, etc. contains a wealth of valuable information and pictures! Thank you @RaySharpton!

Each building has basically the same layout of rooms as identified here. If you wish to request a specific room, this is how they are numbered:

  1. Building number
  2. Floor
  3. Room number
If you wish to request Building 1, Second floor, Room 33; you would request room 1233.
Room number locations

Check-in time is 3:00 pm however, it is not guaranteed that a room will be ready at that time. It may be ready earlier or later depending on the number of guests that are checking-in and out that day.

Disney notifies guests by either text or email of their room allocation when it is ready. This information will also be added to your
MyDisneyExperience (MDE) app. Guests who have received either a text or email about room allocation may skip the front desk and go directly to their room. Room can be entered using a MagicBand, MDE app or Disney's MagicMobile Service.

Updated Jan 10, 2023 - Guests staying at Walt Disney Resorts will no longer be charged a nightly parking fee!

Miscellaneous Information:
  • Rooms may be accessed using MagicMobile, the MyDisneyExperience app on your phone, MagicBand or by using a traditional plastic room key

  • All rooms at Pop, regardless of classification are 260 square feet
  • Upper floor rooms tend to be quieter if you're looking for quiet
  • Furniture in rooms is affixed and cannot be moved
  • Clothing rod is extendable outside the closet wall. Extension rod is 9"
  • Additional towels, toiletries and coffee supplies can be requested using the phone in the room
  • Each room will receive a Security Check each day. This will happen even if the 'Room Occupied' sign is placed on the door. It is a safety measure that was put in place a few years ago. Sometimes the security check will just knock, open the door and other times they will enter the room. They will often remove used towels or garbage when in the room
  • A twin air mattress will fit in the room but only in front of the door
  • Used towels may be placed outside your room and they will be removed
  • You may call and request garbage be removed from your room or, there are garbage bins located around the resort for you to dispose of garbage yourself

  • Soda and snack vending machines are located in the service buildings by each pool

  • Rooms are currently being serviced every-other day for those who do not decline housekeeping services. This service includes:
    • Removal of trash and used towels
    • Replenishment of towels and amenities throughout the room and bathroom
    • Wiping and cleaning of the vanity and counter surfaces
    • Vacuuming, if needed
  • Housekeeping services may be skipped if you wish. This request may be made when you are checking-in online or by contacting Guest Services using the phone in your room. There is no gift card currently being offered for skipping housekeeping services.

Various Room Measurements
  • Both beds are 80" by 60" - both are queen beds with identical mattresses on them
  • Space between bed and wall by bathroom is 17". But with the bathroom/sink room door slid open, you lose some space so it's 14"
  • Space between beds is 17.5"

  • From foot of bed to coffee maker cabinet is 22"

POOLS and RECREATION

Pop Century has 3 pools on property. The Hippy Dippy pool is Pop's main pool, normally offering the longest pool hours of the 3 pools. The Bowling Pin pool and Computer Pool are considered to be 'quieter' pools.

All pools are gated and have lifeguards on duty while pools are open. Pools are not available to guests when lifeguards are not on duty. There are no 24 hour 'leisure pools' at Pop Century. Pools are closed during inclement weather.

  • Pool hours are posted outside each pool on the entrance gates
  • All pools are fenced and gated. Swimming is only allowed when lifeguards are on duty
  • Complimentary towels available at each pool
  • Complimentary life vests available at each pool
  • All pools are heated
  • Diving is not permitted at any pool
  • There are no slides or hot tubs at Pop pools
  • All diaper-age children are required to wear plastic pants or swim diapers. These can be purchased at any of the gift shops on property
  • All pools have a wheelchair lift available
  • Pool noodles and beach balls may be used in the pool. Guests must supply their own
  • A limited amount of swimwear, goggles and pool toys are available to purchase at Everything Pop
  • There are showers located in the laundry facility beside each pool. Showers have re-opened and are available for guest use.
There are no 'zero' entry pool entrances although they start shallower at the edge and get deeper towards the center of the pool. The deepest point of the pools is 4'9" deep.

Hippy Dippy Pool - 60's Section
Hippy Dippy PoolThe Hippy Dippy Pool is Pop Century's main pool and offers Cast Member led games and entertainment each afternoon. (Weather permitting)

Hippy Dippy pool by nature of location and activities is the most active of the pools and often has longer hours than the other pools. At this time, due to reduced occupancy in the pools, it may be necessary to join a queue to gain access to the pool area.

TRANSPORTATION

There are 2 main forms of transportation that Disney offers to Pop Century resort guest to travel to the Parks (Magic Kingdom, Disney's Hollywood Studios, Epcot and Disney's Animal Kingdom) as well as Disney Springs, Typhoon Lagoon and Blizzard Beach:
  • Bus
  • Skyliner
Disney Buses
Pop Bus StopsThe Pop bus stop is located in front of Classic Hall and offers individual, organized queues to each location. The queues are not protected from the weather.

First buses normally leave Pop Century between 6:30-6:45 AM although currently, first buses normally leaves approx. 60 mins before each park opens.

When the Skyliner is running, buses do not run from Pop to Disney's Hollywood Studios or Epcot. When the Skyliner is not running, buses will run to/from DHS and Epcot. Buses are running from Art of Animation to these 2 parks even when the Skyliner is running so those who wish to travel by bus may take a bus from Art of Animation. Access to Art of Animation is by crossing the bridge across Hourglass Lake. It is approx. an 8 minute walk from Pop bus stops to Art of Animation bus stops. (Updated: Sep 2022 as it appears bus service to/from DHS and Epcot is no longer offered from either Pop or AoA when the Skyliner is running.)

Blizzard Beach and Typhoon Lagoon will share a bus with another location. Blizzard Beach access is via Animal Kingdom bus. Typhoon Lagoon access is via Disney Springs bus.

The time the next bus is anticipated is posted on monitors near the buses as well as on MyDisneyExperience app. These times are approximations and change frequently.

Buses are running at full capacity including guests standing.

Miscellaneous Bus Information:

  • If you are wishing to arrive at a park in time for 'rope drop', it is recommended that you arrive at the bus stop approx. 90 mins prior to park opening. At this time, buses will normally start running 45-60 mins before park opening but by that time a line will have formed.
  • Under 'normal' circumstances, buses usually begin running between 6:30 AM and 7:00 AM but this is not currently the case
  • Pop bus stops at the parks and Disney Springs are normally the furthest from park exit
  • Pop Century only has one bus location. All buses will pick up and drop off in front of Classic Hall
  • Buses should run every 20 minutes. More frequently at park opening and sometimes less frequently during less busier times but every 20 mins is Disney's goal

Approx. Bus Transportation Time from Pop:
  • 15-17 mins to Magic Kingdom
  • 7-9 mins to Epcot (when buses are running to Epcot)
  • 6-8 mins to Disney's Hollywood Studios (when buses are running to DHS)
  • 12-14 mins to Disney's Animal Kingdom
  • 9-11 mins to Disney Springs

Skyliner
Skyliner

The Skyliner station is located on Generation Gap Bridge which joins Pop Century to the Art of Animation Resort over Hourglass Lake. The 2 resorts share 1 Skyliner station at the center of the bridge. The lineup for the Skyliner normally winds towards Pop Century, continuing down towards the 50's section. Once operating, the Skyliner loads at a very efficient rate. More than 1 group may be loaded into a cabin during busier times of the day.

The Skyliner runs from approx. 1 hour before the first park opening to 1 hour after the latest park closing. Hours will be posted outside the station. Please note, the Skyliner may start running prior to official start time.

The Skyliner is quite busy at park opening so you may wish to allow additional time for lining up before park opening. Also, in the mornings it is common for Pop riders to be asked to join the back of the line at the CBR station. If the line is long at CBR, look for buses near the end of the line. Choosing to take a bus from CBR to DHS will often be faster at park opening than waiting for the CBR to DHS leg of the Skyliner. It is possible most days to travel by Skyliner from Pop to DHS in time for rope drop although this is not guaranteed.

The Skyliner travels from Pop to Disney's Caribbean Beach Resort (CBR) with connections to Disney's Hollywood Studios (DHS), Riviera Resort and Epcot (EP). All guests must exit the Skyliner at CBR and re-board a separate Skyliner to either DHS or EP.

Taking the Skyliner to EP will exit you at the International Gateway between the United Kingdom and France pavilions.

The Skyliner does not run during inclement weather. When the Skyliner is closed due to inclement weather, Disney will run buses to and from Pop to DHS and EP.

Approx. Skyliner Transportation Time from Pop:
  • 5-6 mins Pop/AoA to Caribbean Beach Resort
  • 5-6 mins Caribbean Beach Resort to Disney's Hollywood Studios
  • 5-6 mins Caribbean Beach Resort to Riviera Resort
  • 9 mins Riviera Resort to Epcot International Gateway
  • 15 mins Caribbean Beach Resort to Epcot International Gateway (takes approx 1 min to travel through Riviera Resort Station)

Disney's Magical Express (DME):
Disney Magical Express busDisney's Magical Express ceased operating on Dec 31, 2021. Guests are responsible to arrange their own transportation from the airport to Pop Century.

The DISboards Transportation board may offer discussions of alternative options guests are using.

Ride Share Services:
Ride share services are permitted to enter Pop Century property if they are picking up or dropping off a guest. At this time, ride shares do not wait at the front of the Resort without a reservation but will be allowed to enter once their service is requested.

For other transportation related questions, the
DIS Transportation board has a lot of helpful information.

TIPS for your Pop stay...

  • From the 80s or 90s buildings, it is shorter to reach Classic Hall/Bus Stops by crossing through the parking lot
  • Bring clothes pins to hang up wet swimsuits on the retractable clothes line in the shower

Luggage Services, Scooter, Stroller and Grocery Pick Up and Drop Off:

Luggage Services now has 2 locations:

  • For guests arriving at Pop, Luggage Services continues to be located at the front of the building
  • For guests departing Pop, Luggage Services for holding bags for the day until you depart is now at the back of the building (in the former Resort Airline Check-in location), directly behind the existing Luggage Services
Arrivals: Outside on the front, right side of Classic Hall.

Guests who arrive prior to their room being ready may check their luggage with Luggage Services that is located at the front of the resort. If you wish your luggage to be delivered to your room when it is ready, please advise and it will be delivered.

Departures: Outside on the back, left side of Classic Hall (former Resort Airline Check-in location), directly behind arrival luggage services:

Guests who check-out of their room before their transportation pick up time may check their luggage with Departure Luggage Services located at the back of Classic Hall and claim it later.

Luggage can also be transferred to/from another WDW resort if you're switching mid-stay; the service is complimentary, but tipping is appreciated. Call guest services to arrange for luggage to be transferred or, leave luggage with Departure Luggage Services.

Luggage services are open 24/7.

Luggage carts are available for guests to transport their own luggage to and from their room.

Scooter, Stroller and Grocery Pick Up and Drop Off:

Scooters and Strollers ordered from external companies who have an agreement with Disney to drop off and pick up, will be left with Departure Luggage Services.

Grocery Delivery: Some guests also choose to order groceries to be delivered to Pop. These will be left with Departure Luggage Services. You may ask them to be delivered to your room although deliveries that include alcohol may need to be picked up in person at luggage services. It appears this differs based upon which company groceries are ordered through.

Groceries picked up at Classic Hall by guests do not incur a fee. Groceries delivered to a resort room will incur a $6 delivery fee which will automatically be added to guest's room charges.

Guests items requiring refrigeration upon arrival or departure may be stored here also.

Can I use Fire Stick on the TV to stream my subscription services (Netflix, Prime, Disney+, etc).

Is the port to plug in the Fire Stick accessible and is there a nearby electrical outlet to plug it in?

Yes and yes.

The port is on the back of the TV. You might need an extension for power.
Thanks. Updating the main posts with this information.

Also, the picture in this post show 4 power outlets on the cabinet below the TV so the cord should reach unless it is extremely short.
