My sister was all excited the other day because she and her DH got blood type kits in the mail to find out what their blood type is......not sure why but whatever. :teeth:

I know mine as I used to give blood quite often in college.............had a crush on the guy running the Red Cross drives. :rolleyes1

We did our blood type in high school in biology class in the 80's. I also gave blood frequently in my younger years, so I have always known my blood type. I know my adopted daughter's blood type as it was on her medical paperwork, I believe from her birth records. It does seem odd to have to pay for an at home kit.
Edited to add: We are both A+!

Yes, because like Kitty I used to donate blood regularly. And in the cute guy department, I sometimes volunteered at the blood drives at West Point. 😜 I would be the one to 'escort' these D-1 athletes to the cantina area. Like I could catch any of them if they passed out on the way over!

If you've ever had blood drawn for routine bloodwork, couldn't you just ask your type?

I do, I'm A-. I used to give blood in college also, but no cute phlebotomists 😂 I can't remember the kids blood types for certain, I think they are also both A, but I know my oldest is rh+ and my youngest is rh-.

Yes, I do. Also from giving blood in the past.

People wanting to know their blood type is mostly just due to curiosity. If you ever have to have a transfusion (say, in an ER), they will type you on the spot for it, and not rely on what you tell them.

I have no idea which is interesting as I spent a fair bit of time in a hospital in my 20;s and continue having my blood monitored every 60 days. I have often wondered! I should look at the home test thanks!

Yes, I’m O+. I’ve been a blood donor and it’s printed on my donor card that I carry in my wallet. Like pp, I first found out in HS biology class when we did a blood typing lab using microscopes.

In the news recently...research indicates that people with type O may be less likely to be infected with Covid 19, and less likely to have severe outcomes if they do contract the virus. So good for me and other O’s (+ or -).
