So there is that. I can indicate in future posts some better pics of what the different things looked like.

also, we did outside photography (the Arndts - LOVE) and this obviously doesn't include any of our other expenses, lodging, travel, all that.... the "DIY" stuff i did was, on the whole, nothing terribly expensive. i did the STDs, invites, table markers, place cards, decorated the vinylmations (signs for them as well), welcome bags...

again - we are so thrilled with how things turned out and super thrilled to be getting a credit back...........

however, i really do have to say that, after sitting here compiling this, i'm kind of wishing if i HAD known we would have that much of a credit coming back, we could have had a dessert party probably! i'm not doing my "wish i had/glad i didn'ts" yet.... but trying to think what i would have changed seeing this budget - off hand i do knnw i just saw someone post right before the wedding (but after we were already at WDW) that you CAN have them spread out your own "faux" rose petals and they will clean them up? well, i have like 87 boxes of danged hot pink fake petals in my closet, so we could have done that.

what else? well, not more food, cause we really had too much in a sense. too much and not enough leisurely time to enjoy it. we had a(n) hosted bar, but not many partook. i guess just another "event" would have been cool. so that. and elvis stitch.

dang!!!!!!:confused3

Hooray for refunds! :yay:

Thank you so much for posting your final BEO. Our weddings will (if no one takes my spots) be at the same time and place, and have just about the same number of people.

I can't wait to see more pictures!

how great you got some money back! :goodvibes
which cruise did you guys book? is it on the Dream again?

Looking forward to listening to the wedding fest podcast :thumbsup2

Performer support $450.00

I was just wondering what "Performer Support" is?

I LOVE the laterns! I wanted that for my stage exit or somewhere, but no one understoon what I meant! Maybe I can have those for my bridal shower. Do you know about how much they were?

.... Do you know about how much they were?

why yes i do! :rotfl2:

so, that amount of lanterns was $135.00 (bargain) and the "lantern support" (hanging them) was $300. i stressed alot over this because i had no picture from DFTW of how many lanterns, what kind/color of lanterns, how they would look. i thought, given the cost of all their other knick knacks, that $135 worth of lanterns would be, like, 3 little sad ones. even though the "support" cost was not inexpensive, once you see that they want hundreds of dollars for a fake,pre-lit ficus tree, well, i just had a hard time believing that this was going to be like i imagined. but you can see it was wonderful!!

i *think* most of the ball room etc have things in the ceiling that they can hang stuff from, so a shower or party somewhere is probably pretty easy! not sure where you are doing a staged exit that you can hang lanterns, although they would be cool in a hallway or something for pictures...

now it makes me think how cool it would be to have all white lanterns in the actual wedding pavilion, then colored ones for the reception space! or have white ones, lit up, outside for an evening wedding and the colored ones inside......:rolleyes1

I can't believe you already got your final bill and the amount that you're goingto be receiving! I emailed my planner last week asking when I'd find out how much we get back and all I got in response was that the billing team was working on it! It's been 4 weeks since we got married, I want my money!:rotfl: I'm so happy that you're getting so much back though. Good for you!!! :cool1:

well that sucks! i was surprised. now, we got the document, bu not the money. it said 3-4 weeks for a check to arrive. maybe yours will come n one big package!

again, i'm kinda wishing we had a dessert party now! but oh well..... :)

i think i will take a stab at doing some reviews this fine february morning.... i've thought about these a bit and i just wanted to give my impressions and tidbits that might be helpful to others. i really don't think we have any scathing reviews to give anyone, but, at the same time, i think that everyone knows that many of the people we all work with during the DFTW process do read these boards and i also don't think its fair to say anything that you wouldn't say to the person themselves. i think i shall go with 1-10 scale, with 5 being average and 10 being way, over the top, beyond the call of duty. ok-

DFTW 8.5 we are (still) so glad we did this! though i do think a lot of the pricing is inflated (on top of the usual "wedding" inflation that happens everywhere), i still think that, dollar for dollar, you get so much extra in the way of just being at a WDW resort, that a lot of that counldn't be duplicated elsewhere for the same price - take whitehall patio - landscaping, ambience and a monorail passing overhead? hello? the points come off a bit in the way the sytem is organized, all the time lines (that change while you are doing things), the sort of lack of DFTW generated solid factual information that can be researched. other than carrie's book, you are kind of at the mercy of what a planner might/might not share etc.... while the timelines probably made it possible for us to have our wedding there in one sense (there were venues available at a year out), i don't think it is reasonable to be planning a major destination event and have some of the finalities not settled until less than 6 or even 2 months out. we paid for our wedding and were able to keep reasonable tabs on our budget, but i'm not cool with the making of your final payment when you havent recieved a "final" budget. also, every web application disney handled was awful! our hoonyemoon registry gets an F, the site was down all the time, noone could find our names. that was the main thing we registered for or mentioned to anyone and really noone used it. however, the gift card you get is very cute. most everyone we dealt with was super helpful and mostly responsive, but one can see, reading the boards, that it all depends who you get assigne to for what tasks. obviously any person has their strengths and weaknesses, so i take those things with a grain of salt, but, with our experience with our first planner, it was like pulling teeth to try anything "off the beaten path" and communication was difficult. i mean, most of the weddings they do MUST be destination weddings, so i am going to say that being avaiable (even with advance palnning) to talk with your bride (especially when you don't like to email) ONLY from like 8-4 EASTERN time is pretty much unacceptable. i cannot talk on the phone at my job and since i am delivering anesthesia to living people whom i would like to see continue living i think i won't be making wedding planning calls from the OR....

i would also like to say though that the DFTW is a machine, and it really seemed like the cogs worked very well for us. we had few hiccups, the things we wanted (no clouding!) were carried out. everyone we met the day of (the floral people, the extra wedding elves) were beyond amazing. the pastry chef even came by to say hello and see how we liked the cakes and the cast member how began tidying up the WP after our ceremony and voluminous pictures was just so nice and congratulatory - all great! i do think that DFTW needs probably more CMs to help their planners do the jobs we need them to do. people can only do so much themselves. i chose to think that whenever i experienced something not quite what i felt it should have been maybe service wise, that it was more due to them being stretched very thin and trying to do the very best they could for 20 people like me who all were planning this most special day.DFTW team members as a whole 9 the assistants, consultants etc.. were all really helpful. mr. room block guy (louis?) is prompt and helped us with some weird reservation questions we had.

Planner - Lisa Smith 9.5 ok, with a name of lisa she has to ROCK! ha! ok, my impulse is to say a 10, but in the scheme of reviewing things, i don't actually know if that would be entirely accurate as lisa took over about 3/4 of the way in. now i want to say this, our initial planner, who transferred to another department, seemed like a great person, was very professional and really organized. i am not sure we "clicked" on our "vision" 100%, but i didn't expect to and wasn't looking for that. i've often said that the timelines are very literally taken (not in the 6 month but 6 months from the day, for example), and lots of those types of things that really irritated us are not really in the hands of the planners i don't think, so i'm not putting that on her. while we appreciated her guidance and experience with the flow of weddings, i felt that there wasn't alot of open-ness to making it "our" day. also, the whole cake thing. just too much back and forth and i am sorry, don't ever EVER say "sheet cake" about anything anywhere in a wedding! the sad part was, after lisa took over, it sounded like both cakes, the source of much distress, were set up to be exactly what we got. like, lisa READ OFF A PRE-EXISTING PIECE OF PAPER the description of both cakes and they were 1000% better than they appeard in the BEO or had been described to me up to that point. so that means planner #1 had that done, but didn't communicate it to me. so wither she just didn't get it and truly thought what she said to me was what was written on the paper, she just wanted to torture me on purpose (i don't think i was that bridezilla-y!!) or, most likely, i think she was an "under promise, over deliver" type person, it made me a little sad to think she didn't get to enjoy the congratulations for that but i'm not sure she could see that this really wasn't the time to "underprominse" as it was causing us to change plans.
so back to lisa, she swooped in, was VERY communicative - she sent ME emails all about the dream cruise ship when it started out for the US - she knew who yehaa bob was, just had tons of enthusiasm. she seemed to get the ideas and got info to us really quick. she did a great job at the rehearsal and she and her team were great on the day of. she really did pull things together that day and kept us organized. she even took our (gift) toasting glasses we used and got them washed in the kitchen before bringing them back to us and out pile of things to go to our room. i think she will do a great job for whomever she works with in the future!
Elizabeth sutton, Disney Floral 87 yes i said 87. this lovely lovely woman made the whole thing! if we hadn't had her as a part of our team, i would have flipped my lid many many many months ago! she "got" us right away. she had suggestions and options all the while keeping our budget in mind. she was prompt and unbelievably quick in responses, sending and revising BEOs and keeping us on track. SHE MADE THIS HAPPEN -

Photography - David & Vicki Arndt 10+ i say plus because they are so much fun and were just really a great fit for trace and i. i can't stress how glad i was that we did do an engagement session, because we had an idea of how it was going to go and knew david and vicki and what they were like. i think it was helpful too that it is a male/female team, i think it did hep my guys loosen up a little. we don't have our discs yet, but we have been really really happy with the pictures we've seen thus far. you see all these artsy fartsy pics out there and i just wanted something that captured the day and had some of that "blog worthy" wedding type feel. we've got it all from cool black and whites to those gratuitous ring pictures to group shots to some posey-posey bride and groom stuff as well as great candids. we're definitely doing some family photos at the boardwalk when we take our next trip down!!

DFAP MK Bridal Portraits - Regina & Ty 7.5 with al the hullaballo thats happened around these protraits, we were a little nervous. but, despite my initial horror at how i lok in alot of the pics, there were enough cool ones that we have purchased the gazillion dollar disc. will let you know how the resolution is on the pics when we recieve it. we had a couple of recommendations for regina and she was great to work with. ty ran around holding things and flashing lights and corraling the 8 million people that were actually in the parks with us. what i took points off for was all the changes and things that have gone on with the shoots and some of their policies, not our photographers or pictures per se i call Bravo Sierra on the whole protraits on the day of or it doesn't count towards your minimum. we didn't want to see each other on the day of before the ceremony! thats not a random idea, its a pretty entrenched wedding tradition across the board.also, morning wedding - hello! so i think that is ridiculous. they could easily turn that around and just make more of a discount or something for using DFAP in the first place with all the wedding photography as the incentive. also, though the change in times of the portraits was necessary apparently, and i wasn't caring about the whole day/night issue, it was pretty dissapointing to be swarmed by people going to eat breakfast at the exact spot where the majority of pictures were supposed to be taken. i think we got lots of nice pics and passers by were very nice, but i REALLY wanted some kind of shot of us alone walking up or down main street and that just wasn't possible. honestly, being "alone" in MK is sort of worth $1100, being there with people everywhere, not so much...
MK5.png

Rev. Randall Miller 8.5 i picked rev. miller after chacking out all the sites and reading about things on these boards. we booked him early, he and trace talked quite a bit - he's got a DFW/cowboys connection (GO NINERS!!!!) that gave them a bond! about 3 weeks before the ceremony i freaked over having not talked with him and the number of brides positng "scripts" of their ceremonies. i was worrying! he was great to talk to. very prompt and great at the rehearsal and ceremony. not "overly" familiar or weird or anything and not running out of there like i've read others have experienced with their officiants. he was awesome with my step son, miles, gave him some assignments as best man, that i think miles appreciated (miles even mentioned once we got home that his job as best man wasn't done - he was to make sure we had a date night on our next anniversary and some other things rev. miller told him to do - awesome!). i personally waivered at the end from initially wanting a completely non-religious ceremony to a non denominational one. it was just fine, he did a great job of telling a story and tying it all together. my brother walked me down the aisle, i know i wrote on our questioniarre that i wasn't being "given away" and he didn't say that but he did say something like "who presents this woman" maybe? and i didn't like that. but i never talked about it before hand and it isn't the same thing as giving away and you kind of do need to acknowledge the person who just walked you down. also, his story incorporated some more traditional gender role stereotypes that i bristled at a bit, ut i dont' think anyone else would have noticed much. but since i'm the one who goes to work all day every day, and trace is a new college student who does most of the family cooking, it would more likely be TRACE who might feel bad if I didn't acknowledge his work making dinner! something like that.... that said, i would recommend him and i would use him again. and he does have a little bit of an old spice man thing going on, and that don't hurt! swan dive.

STVS Video/DVD/Webcast 9 again, i was not a fan of video in general, but i am really glad we did this after the fact. it will be nice to see and hear our ceremony since i was so out of my body during it! we won't recieve the goods for a while yet, but overall, i'm glad we did it, that we found something that worked with our budget, that Stan worked with us when we had to tweak our budget early december. the webcast was amazing and we are SO glad we did that!!

GF Bakery 10+++ i mean seriously look!!
167364_498368451189_111170876189_6816458_527994_n.jpg
179689_498368596189_111170876189_6816465_38472_n.jpg

i know that is ginormous but i just realized last night that there are hitchhiking ghosts around the base!!!! AAAAIIIIIIIiiiiiiii!!! so awesome!!!!

Carolyn Allen's 9 i sent my dress there and we rented tuxes from them, all via the long distance. they were really pleasant and most everything went smoothly. there was a spot on the rental tie for miles whenwe tried it on, that trace and the gentleman pooh-poohed me on a bit (it was maybe an old grease spot, not a colored spot, and it souldn't show with the vest on). but when they dropped off my dress they brought another tie, although i don't think miles wore it because we weren't getting ready at the same place and all that. the guys looked good! i was only dissapointed in that i thought we oredered vests that had the same fabric front and back but i guess we just oredered "fabric" backed as opposed to those ones that have no back i think. also, i wasn't impressed with the actual steaming of my dress asvtually, it was like shesteamed the front, but not the back and i had a flower that was kind of wilty that everyone who saw the dress prior said it would fluff up with steaming. not so much. on the other hand, it wasn't tremendously wrinkly or anything and my room got changed after we had communicated the night before so they walked across the GF with my dress and then called me to find me. my dress and crinoline were shipped back to me without any problems.

Beaute Speciale 9.5 i had my trial with ana and the wedding day with lainie and another cute person and i cannot remember everyones names!!!! arg!!! on the wedding day and portrait day they were super prompt and lots of fun. very relaxed and chatty but not weird or anything! ha! i think everyone was happy with their makeup. mine lasted really well for the wedding, but i needed to powder more as i get shinier at the reception and i had touch up with me but i just never did. also, i am compulsive lip gloss girl, and although color wise i should have reapplied, i never felt like my lips were dry or anything. i really liked my wedding day make up alot. and she did great with my hair for the day of as well and it lasted all day. really good! for the protraits, i sadly requested a bit of a different look, which she did really well, but i should have just done the same thing with my hair because i don't think what i picked was as flattering as it could have been, but that was on my, not them! they were great!!

Disney Transportation 9 i guess it should be a 10, i mean no problems i'm aware of. however, not a fan of the white stretch limo, felt like we should be heading out to the rock 'n 'roller coaster! just a teeny tiny bit cheesy, however, it certainly made for a couple cute pics from inside the limo and trace liked it...

Yehaa Bob Jackson - Piano Player 10++++ he's amazing. if you haven't seen him, you need to! POR tuesday - saturday i believe!
IMG_1208.jpg

let's see..... what am i forgetting??!!
All Star Vacation Homes 9 we stayed off property for most of the trip. so, no real "magic" but 5 master bedrooms and 5 bath rooms! lots of space! the heat situation was weird though, the garage was revamped to a media room, but was ICY cold, our bedroom was a sweat box and the upstairs was pretty cool. but it was nice to have the space and it wasn't too far from the world.
Victoria&Alberts Queen Victoria Room 10 by course 6, i thought i might die. it was the best meal we've had there, but it was in fact too much for that day.
GF - 9 well, we were upgraded after being shown to a room which is a 10 and the CMs were outstanding, but aside from the lobby and the grounds proper, i was just reminded that the GF really isn't deserving of what they charge for that place. the "standard" rooms are pretty small, again with limited single king or queen beds, and funky views. just not as special as the reputation it has implies.

SO glad we....
  • had a DFTW - although not all the folks we would have liked to have had with us could come or could be invited, it was still the right choice for us
  • had the mad hatter theme - all the decor was great, everything wit with the whitehal room perfectly - the lanterns were amazing!!!!!
  • did minimal extra decor at the WP - it didn't need anything else and the streamer cannon was worth it! but it makes a big noise when it goes off!!
  • had Yehaa Bob play - we love him. about 1/3 of our guests had seen him, 1/3 had heard of him and the rest had no idea. he was a grat choice of entertainment for the afternoon and people really really enjoyed him! we got a kick out of watching our friends and family join in! people i was thinking wouldn't sing along or anything were up running around!
  • did video - just realized i have to go back and add STVS onto my ratings! - i wasn't interested in videos per se, but when we started thinking about streaming it and thhat my grandmother wasn't going to make it - we atrated looking at the packages. now that i can't really remember anything about the ceremony (bride brain!), i'm really looking forward to getting the footage. and the webcast was awesome - loads of people tuned in and it sounds like it went off without a hitch!
Wish we had.....
  • had our ceremony on monday, had tuesday to enjoy the honeymon suite, get the bridal portraits and have dinner at V&A then go on our honeymoon wednesday - not enough sleep!
  • considered a DP early on - we ended up getting a refund (supposed to get in a month or so) of 2G! well, if we knew then how are guest list would shake down and had more of a take on the final BEO, a pre wedding night DP would have been awesome and maybe within that 2G number. BUT we would have had to know about it WAY ahead of time and since DFTW doesn't really plan until under the 6 month mark, it just wasn't in the cards to change things up. but that would have been cool!
  • ?? had a plated meal? not sure hear, but again, with the budget isue, maybe we could have done something different with our food knowing we were that much under what we already paid. i liked all the stuff we had - BUT THERE WAS WAY TOO MUCH - so i am not sure what would have appealed for a brunch that would be plated and not involve the guests choosing food ahead of time because thats just one more head ache there
  • understood the logistics of the cake cutting - the only "lull" i felt of the day was aftr yehaa Bob and transitioning to the cake cutting. it was kind of the break down of the party. the cakes looked GORGEOUS with my crazy bird mirror, but we ended up positioned with our backs to the crowd to be able to cut the cakes and stand next to each other. it was awkward. i'm sure people were watching us, but i had the fear that people didn't even know or something. there were 2 cakes and we cut into each one so maybe the two cake issue turned us more that way, but it seemed weird to me at the time
  • not bothered with gift bags and what not - i mean, i had fun putting them together and we didn't go insane, but they didn't get delivered to the guests (we had to tell people to ask for them so they weren't a surprise). but people did send us picturs of the little door hangars on their doors and i think everyone mailed us a postcard back already!
  • also - i don't think anyone really read or retained any of the info we emailed out so i wouldn't waste any time trying to make cute email mailers or anything
Glad we didn't.....
  • freak out and add more floral or soemthing. everything we had was perfect
  • try to do AK portraits too - although i want them badly, there wasn't time and we were already cuckoo
  • got a limo to take us to the cruise instead of magical express - this just gave us a little more time

Hi Lisa,

Really interesting to see what you thought of everything at DFTW - your photographer's pics are excellent! :goodvibes

Shame you had a bad experience with the honeymoon registry - we've just set one up & so far it seems to be working okay, I have noticed the gifts are a bit out of date though.. Spoodles is still on there rather than Kouzzina ;) hehe.

Hope you're having a nice weekend,

Emma princess: x

Thanks for the post!!! I love reading reviews so much!!!
And I know I've said it before and I'll say it again, everything at your wedding looked BEAUTIFUL!

I really loved your reviews and how you added pictures, helps us visualize the day.

I wanted to tell you that the other day I was spending endless hours online putting together a photobook of our wedding and I ended up listening to your podcasts of both your wedding day and your honeymoon cruise. I had never listened to one before and I loved it so much!!

It really helped me not throw things at the computer while trying to sort through our thousands of photos. :rotfl2:

Thanks everybody! Just some quick updates!

We got our refund check AND our MK disc and "kit" both yesterday. I had to laugh because the check for ~$2G is one of those check/envelope foldy checks like you get when you get a refund from some business for 37 cents!

The picture stuff came in 2 boxes. One with the CD, one with 2 boxes containing the tiny prints of each pic and a spiral bound proof book that I finally figured out was the proof book/order form. At first I thought "THIS is the album?!?!?!" :scared1:

The quality of the pics seem good - I was zooming on on them and thru remain quite clear. One problem - the best "money shot" we have of us and the castle has 1) a street light behind trace that looks like he has a tumor growing from his forehead and 2) people walking into the castle. As I would like to blow this one up, I think these flaws will become more evident. Should I ask Dara if DFAP can fix this one picture (hopefully gratis) or ask with whomever I send the pic to for the canvas print? It seems like the tumor should be easy to fix and the 3 people could be fuzzed up more.

Also recommendations for online canvas transfer?

Oh, and a little bird told me that if you enjoyed the TDC podcasts, you can hear more of my wedding babble on this weeks "inside Disney weddings" podcast.... :cutie:

Lisa sweetie - Another great podcast episode!!! Congratulations!!!!:worship:

as mickey would say - "oh boy!"

so stoked - so if you want to look at the 8 million pics we have, you can go here: http://www.photoreflect.com/pr3/store.aspx?p=232933 click on lisa and trace - the password is: 012511

there are lots of pics - we should get our disc this week. we are really happy REALLY happy with david and vicki. i'm so happy that i really like most of the pictures given how much i HATE how i look in pictures and keeping thinking about how much of a blob i am!!!

also, side note, my dress is too short. i am the hovering bride. wedding hovercraft. also, why did i do the different hair and veil for the MK pics? i mean, i know why i thought it was a good idea, but my head gear on the wedding day was really good! :)
:rotfl:

we had so much fun! it's going to be alot of fun turning these pics into some great albums!!!!

Lisa, you're photos are amazing! You two look wonderful. Have fun putting together albums! :goodvibes
