A big welcome to all our new cruisers, please join in the fun!

Please take time to read the information on the first two pages. They contain important information, as well as details of all the events, exchanges and meet ups that are being planned.

Lynne has very kindly been writing awesome recaps of the week's events, so those who arent glued to the dis 24/7 can keep up with all thats been going on. The latest weekly recap is on the bottom of this page, and all previous recaps can be found on this thread

If you would like to join in any of the events and exchanges below, please PM the person organising that particular event. In order to ensure smooth running, if you are joining in the events and exchanges, please ensure you take time to reply to any and all PM’s the organiser may send you. If after several attempts you cannot be reached by the organiser, they reserve the right to remove your name from that event/exchange.

Sorry for all the information overload, now back to the fun!

For non-US citizens
The visa waiver scheme has now been discontinued and has been replaced by the Electronic System for Travel Authorization. Any non-US citizens from previous visa waiver countries now need to apply online for authorization to travel to the US, prior to travelling. You no longer have the option of filling in the form while on the ship. ESTA application process
The site states that you only have to take note of the authorization number, and do not need to print anything out. However one of the cruisers from the 2010 WBTA reported that this was not the case, DCL requires a print out of the ESTA. Those that did not have the print out were required to reapply for the ESTA at check in. Understandably this caused a lot of stress for some people, so please take note of this, so you dont get caught out the same way.

Where to buy cheap alcohol before boarding (borrowed from the 2010 WBTA thread):
Before the 2007 TA, we discovered the wine shop in El Corte Ingles, which is a department store located at the top of Las Ramblas. The wine department is on the lower level, in the grocery store. The selection is fabulous, and the prices incredible!

Secret Mickey Gift Exchange

Welcome to the 2011 WBTA Secret Mickey exchange

This exchange is a bit different from the fish extender exchange, but works along the same way as a secret santa exchange.
Each participating stateroom will be matched with another stateroom, and should buy a gift for that cabin with a total cost of no less than $20 but no more than $25 (approx GB£16, Aus$25, Can$25)
The gifts can be one per cabin, or individual gifts for each person. You can leave the gift in that cabin's fish extender if they have one, or you can ask their stateroom host to put it in the room. Alternatively you can leave the gift with guest services and ask for it to be delivered to your recipient. You should attach a note to the gift that says its a gift from their secret mickey.

If you would like to join in the Secret Mickey exchange, please PM me with names of everyone in the room who is participating, ages of children, and your room number (if known). Please could you also include a vague idea of your favourite characters/what things you like to receive etc

Cut off date for joining the secret mickey exchange will be Saturday 27th August. PMs will then be sent out with details of your recipient. If you would like your recipient early, then please PM me and I'll be happy to assign yours early.
There may be a possibility that latecomers will be able to join in after the cut off date, but only if even numbers of people join after that date (ie: if one person joins after the cut off, then they wont be able to join in - but if two people join after the cut off, then we'll be able to add you to the group)

For those of us staying at the Renaissance Barcelona Hotel

Is anybody interested in sharing a shuttle to the port? Just throwing this idea around, nothing set in stone yet.

I know they have a free shuttle (if you've booked the pre cruise package) but they don't start running till 11am and then every hour on the hour afterwards. The reports I have read regarding shuttles etc are not good. Would be looking at getting to the port at 11am (ish)

Also from what I've read on some of the shuttles websites, they allow 1 x suitcase & 1 x hand luggage per person. Any other baggage would be classed as excess and will incur extra charges.

We are booking on Sunday 17th July. We have 15 people definitely wanting to share. The Mini bus only holds 16 so have space for 1 more.
It's all booked...thank you everyone for being so prompt with everything. It's all booked now and confirmed.

Embarkation day meet

There will be a brief get together in the promenade lounge at 3pm on embarkation day. It'll be a great opportunity to put faces to usernames, pick up your pins/lanyards from Noel, as well as letting us all know of any room changes for those participating in exchanges and events.

Candy Swap

Due to ill health, Jacqueline (goofieslonglostsis) has had to cancel this cruise. Christina (JustLoveEeyore) has kindly offered to take over the organising.
Please could everyone who wants to participate (old and new) PM Christina with the following info:
- Number of people in your stateroom
- Ages of people in your stateroom
- Room number (if you have it)
- Likes/dislikes
- Allergies
- How big a group you would like to participate in

A document will be set up on the FE Google Groups page after the cutoff date. Cutoff date will likely be August 15th.

Fish Extender Info!!!

If you would like to join in the FE exchange, please PM PFlamingo (Pat) with your Disname, names of everyone in the room participating - first and surnames - and relationship to you (DH, DD, etc), ages of children, and your room number (if known). If you would prefer that your childrens' names not be posted publicly, just let me know. I'll keep them on my list, but I'll only put the relationship identifier (DD, DS) on the list here. It's helpful to know the childrens' genders and ages as some of us do separate gifts for children and we want to make sure we have age/gender appropriate items. I also will not post surnames. Some folks need the names for their FE gifts, so I will only pass them on to those people.

You MUST send me a PM with your information in order to be included in the FE!!!! Simply mentioning your desire to participate in a post on the thread will not get you included. If you do not have enough posts to send a PM, please send a Visitor's message instead.

The cut off date to sign up is August 1. You know you want to join in the fun!
Anyone who wishes to participate after the cut off date will be added to their own list. Others may join that list, as well.

For those who aren't familiar with how the FE exchanges work, here are a few threads to get you started! (Thanks to karentan (Karen) for finding these! :thumbsup2 )

FE basics
fish extender info
instructions for the no sew FE
handmade FE gift ideas
other FE gift ideas

(Just a thought: Do not be intimidated by all the uber-creative ideas on the "handmade FE gift ideas" thread! :worship: Whatever you decide to give will be enjoyed and appreciated.)

NEW INFO - PLEASE READ!!!

If you have already signed up for the FE, please click on the link below to request an invitation to join the Google Group where the FE Groups are posted. You will need to create a Google account first, if you don't already have one. I'll confirm your request, and you will be able to view and download the document from there, via the link under "Discussions" on the Home page. Please read the message on how to download the list under "Discussions," too. When you request an invitation to join the group, there is a question you will need to answer (it's an easy one) to help confirm that you are who you claim to be. For security purposes, only those who are participating in the FE will be given access to the Google Group and FE list.

WBTA FE 2011

Once you have access to the document PLEASE READ the page at the beginning of the document. It has some info you need to know.

*** Pinky166 (Claire) has requested that everyone participating in the FE Exchange in her groups provide their surnames to her so that she can customize her gifts. Thanks!

SCUBA DIVING

Anyone interested in diving in Tortola or St Maarten's please PM me.

TORTOLA This dive is sold out right now but if you are interested let me know. I can put you on a waiting list or contact the shop to see if they have room on another boat. If there are enough interested we will ask for a second boat. Each boat takes a max of 8 divers.

ST. MAARTEN'S THIS IS A SHARK DIVE. This is a little info sent to me by the dive shop.
"Let me tell you a little bit about this dive; Our shark dive is not caged, they’re Caribbean reef sharks free to come and go as they do so we never know how many sharks will show up for the feed. We only feed a couple of pieces of fish once or twice a week so they still have to hunt for themselves, we say that we give them “snacks”!
We’re very passionate about these beautiful creatures and after many years of doing this dive have as our goal put YOU on contact with them so you learn to love and respect them, this way you would like to protect them, sharks are being killed by millions every year for nonsense reasons, there are going to be vanished if we don’t do something and we need this animal for the balance of our oceans just as we need the reef to be healthy.
During the dive you would be at 60ft deep on a designated spot on the sand marked by a rock just watching our instructor to feed the sharks by a stick, it’s a single dive that should last 30 to 40 minutes and it’s a 20 minutes boat ride from the shop. We always run this dive in the afternoons."

UPDATE: New St. Maarten's group leader is Nick262 Please contact Nick if you are interested in the shark dive. The Tortola dive if full but if you wish to be on a waiting list for Tortola, please PM TxMermaid1

  • I am a PADI MSDT dive instructor, there will also be a dive instructor or divemaster from the shop diving with us.
You may take pictures and video. I will have a video camera and will be videoing the dive.

Lanyards and pins

Because so many people have asked about lanyards and pins what did they look like last year, I decided to post a picture. Our lanyards this year will be wider and have a water resistant pouch.

I will be making up lanyards with waterproof holders for all the DIS members who PM me. The lanyards and badge holders will look like the ones below though I have not decided in what color.

Lanyards
Badge Holders

Here is what last years lanyards and pins (on the card) looked like:

PinCardBottom-1-1.png

Here is how to pay.

Please mark the payment as a gift to me on PayPal at birkner@needinfo.com so the only fees you may have to pay is convert to Euros if this is not your principal currency.

Be sure you put your DIS name in the notes so I know where the payment came from and can properly credit you.

If you have any other questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to PM me.

Allright-----WHO WANTS A LANYARD????
OK folks----

Let the sign-ups for lanyards BEGIN!!!

If you would like a FREE custom lanyard and name badge for this cruise (a great way to meet new people, identify other DIS friends, and put faces and names with screen-names), then I need you to EMAIL ME YOUR INFORMATION!!

Here is the information that I need:
DISBoards screenname: I need the DISBoard name(s) spelled and capitalized the way you want it on your name badge. For many/most groups, there will probably be only one DIS name for a group of people---that is totally fine. If there ARE multiple different DIS names/users in a group, let me know all of them but ALSO be sure to link the correct DIS name with the correct person.
First Name: Please give us the first name of EVERYONE in your party who would like a lanyard the way you want it to appear on the name badge. (Please remember that spelling counts!! The name you give here is what your name badge will say....so make sure it's correct!) Also---and this is important---make sure that the FIRST name you send is the primary DIS user under the screenname you send!
Stateroom #: Why do I need your room #? To get your lanyard to you! I will try to give out all the lanyards in the port or at a meet onboard during embarkation...but if I miss you, I need your room # so that I can deliver them to you later. If you are GTY, that's fine, just say so. There will be plenty of time later to fill in room #'s or to make changes if people switch rooms.

So please put all the above information into an email and send it to this address: dcl.wbta.2011@gmail.com

(Please note, I will not necessarily be replying individually to every person confirming receipt of their request for lanyards....HOWEVER, once I get requests rolling in I will be putting them into a spreadsheet on our website that I will link through google docs and people can view (but NOT edit) so you can look for yourself there to make sure you are listed and that all your information is correct...and then email me with any changes obviously).

Let the lanyard fun begin!!!

Information on Madeira Tours. I am organizing two tours this year. One is the West tour which we did last year and one will be an East tour.

Cable Car and Toboggan rides.

• Câmara de Lobos – just passing by. Note from Noel: See Noel's Note under number 14.

• Cabo Girão – a 20 minute stop.

• Ribeira Brava – passing by only also. Note from Noel: From my Thomas Cook Travellers Guide there is not much to see unless you are going for a walk leading up the valley to the Boca de Encumeada.

• Encumeada – a short stop.

• From Paúl da Serra to Santa – a short stop for sightseeing along the way.

• Porto Moniz – you’ll be able to stay there for something like 1h30m to 1h45m. The people interested can stay in the pool for about 30 minutes, before lunch.

• São Vicente – a 30 minute stop. On your tour, you’ll be seeing the very last waterfall named Bride’s Veil. But apart from this one, you’ll also see other waterfalls, along the north coast.

• Finally, back to Funchal on the express way.

• Drop off at either Old Blandy's Wine Lodge or be returned to the ship

Below is a link to information about the West tour which is still 30 Euros per adult:

West Madeira Tour link

Below in red is the emailed itinerary that Eusébia of Daniel Taxis who was our previous tour guide suggested for the East tour:

I think maybe you and everybody else who took last year’s tour, will like to do the East tour this time. It takes about 6.5 to 7h and, as you already have 30 persons, we’ll charge 25 EUR per person. Last year Daniel Taxi charged 30 EUR per person, because we added Monte to the West tour, otherwise it would also have been 25 EUR.

Our East tour itinerary is as follows:

· Camacha
· Poiso
· Pico do Areeiro
· Ribeiro Frio
· Faial
· Santana
· Porto da Cruz
· Machico
· Santa Cruz
· Back to Funchal

Madeira East Tour itinerary

As always, we’re open to any changes to this itinerary, in case anybody has any other preferences.

Our Port’s website says Disney Magic arrives at 7:30am and leaves at 9:30pm. As it leaves so late, some people will probably choose to stay in Funchal after the tour, but others may prefer to be taken to the cruise ship straight away, one way or the other will be quite fine with us.

Champagne Girls!!

Would you like to join the Champagne Girls? I am arranging a girly meet on one of the Sea days (to be confirmed) where we will dress in pink!!! Tiara's & Feather Boa's optional but highly recommended, and its a good excuse to chat and drink Champagne!! (not essential).

Added 4th August - It is looking likely that there will be a $20 charge by dcl but that will include champagne, not sure exactly how much as I am still waiting for more details. Please note - this charge will automatically be added to your stateroom regardless of whether you show up to the event or not. They have also said that we need a minimum of 20 but a maximum of 50 participants.

Room changes/Upgrades once onboard!

PLEASE NOTE:

If you are lucky enough to get an upgrade / change of stateroom and are taking part in any of the special events, such as the Fish Extender, Secret Mickey, Candy Swap, Scrapbook exchange etc then you will need to notify everyone of your new room number as soon as possible. Therefore I will put a whiteboard on my stateroom door 6507 as soon as we can access the rooms after boarding, please make your way there asap & leave a message stating your DIS name, old room number & new room number.

Anyone distributing gifts/exchange presents should swing by & check the board before delivering gifts to check on any room changes. I will also have a few spare printed FE lists in my FE just incase anyone forgets to bring a copy with them.

In the unlikely event that I get a room upgrade, I will put my white board on one of my neighbours doors (probably Mary, Tod&Copper #6511, if she doesn't mind ;) ) as there are several of us in that area of the ship. (I'll clearly mark the whiteboard as room change info so you know it is the right one & not someone's general message board).

Calling all Pin Traders!!!!

Some of you may have seen on the Facebook page that there are quite a few pin collectors/traders onboard. It has been mentioned that due to luggage restrictions people don't want to bring all their traders with them so i've created a separate thread just for us to post photos of our pins and agree trades now, so that we only need to bring the pins we've traded onboard with us.

Hope to see all you traders there.....http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=2762877

*** Closing date to sign up for this exchange is 1st August 2011 ***

If you would like to join in the scrapbooking exchange, please PM me, Pinky166 (Claire) with your info and room number.

The gift(s) can be homemade, already in your scrapbooking inventory, or purchased.
Some ideas include page borders, journaling boxes, photo frames, titles for pages, and small embellishments.

You will need to deliver the exchange to the relevant Fish Extenders whenever is convenient for you. A list will be supplied just after the cut off date for new sign up's, 1st August. If you have any questions or want to sign up please contact Pinky166 (Claire)

Tortola Excursion to Jost VanDyke (Beach Day and Snorkeling)

DCL Magic is in port Wednesday 21st Tortola, British Virgin Islands - ashore 7:30 a.m, aboard 3:45 p.m.
Excursion is from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.

COMPLETELY FULL - No Standby List can be added to (Due to capacity - See below)

:boat: Mandy is organizing a group-rate day sail on a power catamaran to Jost VanDyke with the company "Tortola Charters" from 8:30-2:30. It includes free snorkel gear to all guests and a guided tour of the reef at White Bay (they are preferred customers of the Soggy Dollar Bar and receive free use of all of their facilities including chairs and hammocks). Lunch is on your own, and meeting location is right where the Magic docks in Tortola. Tortola Charters is the official excursion company for Norwegian Cruise Lines. :boat:

http://tortolacharters.com/

Our Group Pricing:
$50 (ages 12+), $40 (ages 3-11), Free (under 3 years) - description above of what they include
Payment is in US Dollars (cash) or Traveler's Checks at the dock, directly to the catamaran company.
Comparable DCL Excursion (DCL includes lunch and some water activities): "Jost VanDyke Beach Day" ($105 for adults, $75 for kids)
Please note: Since we did not set up this excursion until January, they already had people booked for this day. We got the remaining 28 slots on the blue power catamaran pictured plus an additional sail catamaran with 36 slots that will be pulling a power dinghy for anyone with mobility concerns since there is no dock at White Bay.

Here is a video of the area to put you in the island mood!! :beach: The DCL excursion page also shows some pics of the beach with boats tied to morrings.

NOTE: There is NO DOCK at White Bay Beach... you use the steps/ladder at the back of the catamaran to go ashore via water (wading/jumping in/whatever)... hence the name SOGGY DOLLAR BAR. For pics, please see the linked websites mentioned above or this pic to see the short distance from boat to beach. Here is a picture of the ladder to go back into catamaran since no dock.
From my contact at Tortola Charters:
"We have non-swimmers and guests with somewhat limited mobility on this trip all of the time and it is never a problem". Because this excursion will have two boats, one will have a dinghy IF needed. If you have mobility concerns going up/down the ladder, please PM me to put your party on the catamaran that "has a power dinghy that can take them right to the shoreline if they prefer that instead of swimming in the few yards."
Please note in their description of this excursion on their website, "(This tour is suitable for all ages including infants and non-swimmers – snorkeling is done from the beach and is optional)" which is different from the description of the Virgin Gorda Baths excursion (more strenuous).

Please PM me if you need to be on the catamaran with a dinghy due to this. We have specific numbers of capacity on each catamaran, so it is limited and I have to keep a list of who is on it. First come, first listed. We will be split between the two catamarans prior to travel so we know which catamaran we are on (each DIS screenname is a "group" that will not be split apart). Each catamaran has a set capacity.

Pajama Breakfast

Time change to one hour earlier since last year's Navigators show the restaurant closing at 9:30AM twelve of the fourteen days last year.

Mandy is organizing a PJ breakfast on Sunday the 18th September (a sea day) at 9:00 am, at Lumieres. If you would like to join in, please PM MandyGirl (Mandy).
There is no cost involved for the breakfast, and there are no set times for breakfasts on DCL, so your evening dining rotation does not affect participation in this event at all. We will be meeting outside Lumieres at approx 8:50 a.m. for a group photo prior to the breakfast.

Please note:
If you had previously PM'd hayley (the previous organiser), please re-PM Mandy so we can get an updated list of who's still interested.

Toddler Meet-Up (Too young for Kids Club)

informal "toddler meet-n-greet" for the kiddos too young for Kids Club (under age three) on the first sea day from 10:00-10:30. (Sunday - the day between Barcelona and Gibraltar) That way they get a chance to meet, Moms get a chance to meet (and/or Dads), etc. Planning on the area in the shade by the toddler splash area. No sign-up necessary - just a place so that we can meet before lunch/naps/cranky time :) This will help us recognize one another the remainder of the cruise as well.

We are planning on the area on Deck 9 Port in the shade by Mickey's Splash Pool. Depending on weather, they may or may not get wet, but we could always walk them down to Flounders to see it or Kids Club to play a little indoors.

The other timeframe mentioned was same day, same place, 1:00-1:30 for those who could not attend 10:00... but not as many may attend then. We are mainly aiming for the 10:00 slot first for Toddler meet-n-greet. We also realize that is the ten-year anniversary of 9/11 and hope a memorial service will be available onboard. Speculation is a memorial service will be broadcast live by DCL... New York Time... which would be after lunch. Therefore, the previously discussed 1:00 timeframe may have many watching the memorial.

Also remember that you can accompany your under-three kiddos to the Kids Club when you see activities that look like they would be fun - we just can't leave them since too young (or not potty trained). And don't forget to pre-book your nursery hours!

TO ORDER YOUR OWN Pre-Designed T-SHIRT From VistaPrint

~ Ship to YOUR home ~ pay with YOUR money ~ buy Mandy a drink on the ship ;)

Phone lines are only open Monday thru Friday until 10:00 PM Eastern Daylight Time US

Although the rate is showing online (as of MAY 20) with my account as $9.74 (front/back shirts) with this 50% off sale and free uploads, it *should* still be showing the same rate on Monday as well according to the phone rep I spoke with (but you know how that can be.....) The "front only" t-shirts are $5 less... quite a steal IMHO. Click on images below for an enlarged picture.

Note: Many companies refuse to print anything Disney, but we have had success with VistaPrint making these. Yes, the shirts are thin (not Beefy T's) but many companies refuse to print ANYthing that has any resemblance to Mickey Ears due to copyright lawsuits.

YOUR STEPS to order one already made (see below to upload raw photos and easily create your own!):
  • Call VistaPrint
    UK: Call 9011-44-800-496-0350
    US: 1.866.614.7993
Phones are open Monday thru Friday until 10:00 PM Eastern
  • Tell them the IDENTIFICATION # of the product you want (see below)
  • If asked the account name, 'MandyGirl Customer' is the first/last name and that you do have permission to order the product.
*** NOTE: This will go to my personal account, and I will receive your order confirmation email. If you prefer to keep your shipping address private, you will need to create your own account, upload the images, and design tshirts in your account (details at bottom). The Rep I spoke with on 5/20 had given me these instructions, but now apparently VistaPrint is not backing what the Rep said.
  • Verify the product on the phone with ID Number and Title (just as a double check)
  • Order sizes and quantity, give them your shipping address, and pay with credit card directly to VistaPrint
  • Mine arrived each sealed in it's own plastic bag, nicely folded.
  • Apparently the order will be paid by you and shipped to you, but because it is an item I created in my account, I will receive your order confirmation email. Just PM me, and I'll keep a lookout for the email and pass it along to you! Don't worry... the order confirmation emails I received do not show any payment information.
  • The other option is to pull the images from my photo album (same photo album the pictures are in below when clicking) and create your own t-shirts. These just happened to have a 50% off rate that I am passing along. If in the US, you can literally purchase three (3) front-only t-shirts with shipping for right at twenty bucks!

Here are two front/back and two front-only t-shirts to choose from:

Shirt: "DIS Postage Stamp"
NOTE: As of Aug 10, it looks like this item is no longer appearing in my portfolio. I know the phone reps have made orders, but I think one of them must have deleted this item! I can try to re-create if anyone wants, but also remember all files are linked in the very bottom paragraph if you want to save to your computer and upload to create your own.

DIS Postage Stamp BACK:

SHIRT: "DIS Life Ring"
Identification # CFZQL-RA222-0H2

DIS Life Ring BACK:

Additional Shirts with FRONT ONLY:

Shirt: "DIS Ship FRONT ONLY"
Created: 5/20/2011
Identification #: 3WWWL-RA990-2K0

Front only - showing up today as $4.74 plus tax and shipping

Shirt: "DIS Map FRONT ONLY"
Created: 5/20/2011
Identification #: D4RXL-RA401-6E5

Front only - showing up today as $4.74 plus tax and shipping

NOTE: I do get the red message about the image not being good enough to print, but when I received my finished products a few months ago, they look just fine. I showed them to DH just now and he agreed. The line that is above the date 2011 in one photo (back side of Life Ring tshirt) is slightly visible on the actual shirt I have in my hand now. I am assuming they will print in as good of quality as the ones I printed a couple months ago. You can create your own and try to use blank white jpgs to cover up the border of that 2011 date image. All images were created by our wonderful DISigners here on the DISboards... I just arranged them on a t-shirt. VistaPrint will print Disney images, although their shirts are a little on the thin side (not Hanes BeefyT or anything, but they work for the price!)

Another option is to create a VistaPrint account for yourself and upload the raw images (found in this folder). With VistaPrint online, choose the shirt you want, go to Advanced Editing, and import your images to arrange however you like. There are also more images available on the DISboards Creative DISigns thread here. Just use the search feature if you are looking for a name, or click on any of the DISigners' "shared" files to look for graphics that have already been created. If you are sure one has not been created (such as a Mickey Head with your name on it) then post to the DISigner's thread according to their instructions. With these DISigns, you can make your own tshirts (AmyMickey.com has GREAT transfer paper with your inkjet printer) or make your own magnets. It can take the DISigners several weeks due to the backlog of requests, so just be patient and plan well in advance!

But when I read your posts Mary you have the same accent as me!

OUR PRAYERS AND CONDOLENCES TO

karentan - DH Gary's dad lost the battle against cancer. Funeral is Friday in Scotland.

Pixie Dust for Me! - Steve (my DH), developed an infection 3 weeks after surgery and I thought for sure that I was going to have to cancel the cruise. Today, I'm 99% positive that we are going to be able to go! Phew!!!

We went to the doc and the second round of antibiotics worked. I won't go into all the gory details but suffice it to say that it was disgusting, very painful and even the doc was skeptical that 2 rounds of antibiotics would do it. But DH is a trooper (ok, a whiny trooper....but still ) and he is actually well enough to return to work this week! His tummy looks so much better.

CONGRATULATIONS

Sam - Noel's DD - "So mass chaos around here today. Evidently Sam got into the law school in San Diego but they sent the letter to her Hawaii address and she never go it. So she gets a call today from Admissions since she left a message asking her status. Turns out orientation is Monday!!"

STATUS UPDATE

" Just heard from Jacqueline, she is still in hospital and hoping to be out next week.

She has been reading the thread on her cellphone but finds it difficult to type on it but she will be back on the Boards."

"Yep, surprise I'm home. Sorta. It took so long because as usual I ran into the "you don't fit the standard protocol and thus it's all in your head"-arrogance. Not fitting protocols is standard with my condition but that seems to hold little value. " - goofieslonglostsis - Jacqueline

"I just did mine yesterday, so it's fresh in my mind. I got the "update" confirmation page and knew it wasn't what I needed to print, so I hit the exit button at the bottom of screen. When you go back that one step to the home page, there is a print form option. That's the print out that you need to take with you for boarding"

HARD ROCK CAFE PRE-CRUISE GATHERING - BARCELONA

Hard_Rock_Cafe_Barcelona_K130_C.jpg

"I have managed to organise the same deal as we had last year on the pre-cruise HRC gathering ... basically we will get the use of a downstairs room for drinks, which we can get at the discounted price of 3 euros for a soda, and 6 euros for a local beer / glass of wine.

We need to meet up at 6:30 pm outside of the hard rock and we will have wristbands given to us for the reduced drink prices.

I also need to know how many people are planning on eating their evening meal at the Hard Rock, so I can let them know how many tables to set up for dining.

So could you please let me know if you plan to eat there. Thank you, Sarah - TotallyAngelic

USA CELL PHONES IN EUROPE

"On the cell phones, depending on what kind of phone you have it may not work at all in Europe. You really should talk to your cell phone provider. If you do not have GSM functionality on your current cell phone it will not work in Europe. When we lived in the states (2008) many phones did not have this, especially if you have Verizon. If you phone does have this functionality, you will need to find out what the international roaming charges are for both data and phone. It is likely to be VERY expensive given our experience. The United States is way behind on cell phone technology that can be used globally.

In the middle of the ocean, not sure you would even get a signal or which roaming charges my apply. Just my two cents, but isn't the whole point of being in the middle of the ocean to *not* be found??

Word to the wise, talk to the provider before you use the phone cause I would rather spend my hard earned cash on more FABs than email...but that just may be me." Fontabel - Amanda

FE QUESTION

"I know it's late in the day but that's how I roll Am I supposed to give gifts per person or per cabin?

I have a number of items and I was just going to put them in the FE's and then the recipients then decide who wants what. Is this right or ...?
"

- You can do it any way you choose. Per cabin, per person, one time during cruise, multiple times during the cruise, etc., etc., etc

- You can do whatever you want, just have fun.

Some people will give one thing per cabin, others will give one per person, some may give more than one per person. Personally for this cruise I am giving a minimum of one thing per person.

- I could be wrong but I don't think there are any set rules re the fe gift giving. Mostly ours are things for each person to choose what they want or the gift is for the family etc. So along the same lines as you I think.

Are you supposed to put who it is from also, like you would on a regular gift?

I have packed mine up with all the gifts per cabin in one bag then added a tag with the cabin number & who it is from. I have had gifts on my previous cruises where they haven't given their name but personally I like knowing who it is from so I always put my name on the things I give out.

- FE gifts - I give one per cabin - too much for the old lady's brain to try to figure out what's appropriate for the different age groups. Maybe I'll put my name on them and maybe not. depends on time. If you DO decide to put your name on them, computer generated return address labels are an easy method.

ROOM CHANGES ONCE ONBOARD

In the unlikely event that I get a room upgrade at the port, I will put my white board on my neighbours doors (Mary, Tod&Copper #6511) as there are several of us in that area of the ship. (I'll clearly mark the whiteboard as room change info so you know it is the right one & not someone's general message board). Pinky166 - Claire

WRAPPED/UNWRAPPED FOOD

"Did anyone who did the WBTA last year bring candy from the US? I'm wondering if I can pack it and bring it or if I need to buy some in Spain. And if I can bring it, does it have to be individually wrapped and/or in original packaging?"

- I wasn't on it, but DCL rules state you can only bring on food products that are sealed in the original packaging. I would interpret this to mean if, for example, you purchased a bag of the Snickers fun size bars, that you could open the bag to distribute them to individual gift bags as long as the packaging around the candy bar remains sealed.

- People from the USA brought candy from the USA on the last WBTA. I know as we had things like Peanut Butter Cups etc. They were all in their original packaging.

SHARK DIVE

Unfortunately, Jill has had to change her plans for the Shark Dive in St Maarten. I will now be coordinating for those that would still like to do it. I have three confirmed and 3 unconfirmed. Please let me know ASAP as we need to book it with at least 4 divers as soon as possible to hold the date.

Confirmed:

Dom262 Dom
Chirpee Paul

Those that need to confirm:
Thepicketts Damian
csgraves Connie and Dan

Please feel free to PM me with any questions.

DISNEY JEWELRY CHARM

"I was hoping to purchase a silver Disney cruise ship charm (made by Chamillia, similar to Pandora beads) that has the Disney Cruise Line symbol on one side. I've seen pictures of this charm on the DIS boards from other cruises but have no idea how to find out if it will be available on the TA cruise. Evidently, these charms are only available on the ships, not in stores. Any advice on whom to contact? Thanks!"

This shows a photo of the charm :thumbsup2

I got one of the chamilia DCL charms and it fit perfectly on my pandora bracelet.. I believe it was $40-$45 I'd have to check my receipt..

Here it is. =)

EBOOKS

"I thought I saw something on this forum some time ago about sharing of ebooks. We just got these (the eNook reader from Barnes & Noble) and I'm trying to learn how to use it. Is there a way to share books with others on the cruise?"

- I do know you can lend a book for about 2 weeks using the Kindle. I wonder if Nook has that same option?

- The Nook offers the sharing option too, just not sure how to work it. Will read up on it though.

MARK YOUR CALENDAR

September 19th is "Talk Like a Pirate Day." pirate: ARRRRR you ready for it?

WE MET ON THE INTERNET...

"I just got back from a wonderful lunch meeting with Mandy (Mandygirl), her children and Karen (Rubyblue) What a fabulous lunch.. the food was good but the company was better. I am so excited to have such wonderful new friends in my life. Can't wait to see you girls on the ship.. if not before!" TxMermaid1 - Jill

- "DITTO! Jill and Karen are absolutely WONDERFUL! We were at lunch 11:15-1:00 and I think we could have easily gone longer. (Okay, so my 14-month old didn't have her morning nap yet, but still behaved pretty well.). Had it been Happy Hour, we would have had to sample the sangria there. I was also thrilled to discover Karen/Stan are on the same flight as my girls and I out of JFK... and already knew Pat and Dennis are as well. Super excited about that as well. I walked away from lunch even MORE excited about the cruise than before! And the hotesses thought it was way cool that I was there to meet two people I had never seen in person before, and that we were all cruising. Our server asked us to come back to let her know how the cruise goes!" MandyGirl

REUNION PLANS...BEFORE WE ACTUALLY UNITE

"I cry a lot on the last day ..... saying goodbye to cruise buddies is so difficult. To make it easier we planned a reunion for this year and next weekend we are having a reunion for the DIS UK WBTA 2010 group,"

- But great that you are all interested. Gives me something to look forward to in 2012 when we have no holidays planned

- We would love to attend a reunion too

- In London? This would be a good excuse to get over there.

- O, yes, an reunion in London, that is possible to make for me. Just planning a holliday then and come over from Holland with the Euro Star.

- If we are still here count us in......

- Count me in too, would love a " get together next year. I second London.

- hi, we would like to join the reunion as well please

- we would be interested in a reunion in london, .... to relive the magic

- We'd also be interested,

- It gives me something to look forward to too, we also have no holidays planned.

- A little special request for the re-union, since we have the furthest to travel, London would be great but also any city that we can catch a flight to from Inverness would be great..... that includes

London, Birmingham, Manchester and Bristol

It should be some time in September, drown our sorrows a year from disembarkation

...was waiting until we get back from the cruise first :lmao:

"WOW we certainly are an eager bunch, planning the reunion before the actual cruise

You never know we might all HATE each other and spend our two weeks on the cruise hiding in our staterooms and ordering room service so we don't accidently bump into each other..."

WDW ROOM DISCOUNT PIN

For those planning to go to WDW during the first days of december; the one thing in my favor; PIN-codes( yep multiple!). As far as I know I can book upto 3 rooms for me and friends during the same traveltime so if I can help anyone out; you know how to find me (it's 25% off value or mod and 35% off deluxe or DVC). And I happen to know that as of yesterday there was still quite a nice availability at both CBR and SSR with this PIN. goofieslonglostsis - Jacqueline

PRINCE & PRINCESS TEA

"All the children are invited to a Prince and Princess tea. They are each able to bring 2 adults. The only way an adult may attend is to escort a child. On the EBTA there were several of us adults that wanted to go to the tea so we asked to "borrow" a child that might have room for another adult to escort them. Say a couple had 2 children, each child being able to bring 2 adults, that is 4 adults allowed but only 2 parents... so they would let 2 other adults join them. It was so fun and we got to spend a little time with the pretty princess's and Prince's."

- It is not the Alice's tea party.. it is the Prince and Princess tea party. It is by invitation only. Every child will get an invite to a party for a particular day. They are not all on the same day. You must RSVP it by dropping the invite rsvp form in a box at the gift shop. They will then send a ticket to your stateroom for the people you RSVP'd. This one is held in Luminier's. The princess's will be there to visit the kids and they serve tea and treats. It is so cute to see the little ones dressed up for the occasion. They give each child a banner as they enter with Prince or Princess on it.

The Alice's tea party is a paid event I think (not sure).... It will have Alice and some other princess's at the party. It is held at Studio Sea.

Let the bidding begin...

KEEP A LOOKOUT FOR

  • Character Breakfast (based on dining time/rotation)
  • Alice's Tea Party (sign up at Guest Services I assume)
  • Prince/Princess Tea (RSVP at gift shop)
  • Late night dessert buffet

YOU MEAN IT WASN'T SUPPOSED TO...

Starting in January, DCL will be adding their new OBDC (on board demerit credit) to cruise accounts.

DCL has finally realized that people feel some entitlement to disregard some rules, and the rules of choice are different for each of us. So, we'll be given a demerit "credit" to be used on our cruise.

The basic credit is 5**. That means you have 5 demerits to spend as you wish. For example, saving a seat in the theater costs you one demerit, wearing shorts to dinner costs 2 demerits, allowing children with swim diapers in the pool is 2 demerits, and so forth. The Personal Navigator will have a specific list; any ship's officer can assess demerits.

Are you paticularly bad and run out of demerits? No problem, more can be purchased at Guest Services. No more worrying about breaking the rules, we're all imperfect and this will make life onboard a little more enjoyable!

**Concierge guests and Platinum Castaway Club members will be given 10 credits initially. Also, if you transfer your reservation to an independent TA they can offer you an increased OBDC along with a higher OBC.

SANTA MARIA TOUR IN MADEIRA

I wanted to update you regarding booking this excursion on your own. Maricia is now taking reservations from individual parties for both the morning and afternoon tour. Disney did not charter the entire boat. The cost again is 30euro for adults and 15euro for kids under 11. You will pay when you get to the dock.

BARCELONA TAXI INFO

Useful information about taxi services in Barcelona

  • Weekend nights have a surplus of 2.10 €.
  • Each piece of luggage will mean a charge of 1 €.
  • If you are getting a taxi by phone, you can expect the taxicab to come with the taximeter already running. That amount cannot, however, exceed 3.22 € during the day, 3.99 € night, or 6.50 € on Fridays, Saturdays or holidays at night.
  • Motorway tolls are paid separately by the passenger.
  • Taxi drivers are only required to carry change for payment up to 20 €.

THEY START YOUNG

"I woke up the other morning to find that Sarah had started putting her packing stuff on the dining room table. We had four princess dresses, four pairs of shoes to match, jewelry, tiaras, wands, gloves, and the play makeup her grandmother bought her. I sent Curt a message at work, and told him to be prepared to pack in only a carryon! And that did not include the actual CLOTHES I have started taking out for her. We are planning on doing laundry, and I have big post-it charts up laying out what we are wearing each day and packing, but still... I am sure Sarah will have over 50% of luggage space while the other three of us cram it all in. After all, she turns five the week we board the cruise, and thinks the cruise is for HER birthday! I'm going to let her wear her birthday shirt on embarkation day though so she DOES feel like it is. The excitement in her voice when she says "Mommy, do you think ARIEL will be on the Dizinee cruise with us?" just sends goosebumps.... Dang it tears - go away! I can't even type!"

During our first Disney cruise last year, I was befuddled enough to think that I would have plenty of time to read all sorts of great books.
How wrong can you be? A quick look at the daily Navigator revealed that if I got up early enough, I might just have time to get in the odd paragraph before rushing off to some fabulous meal, fun event or mind-expanding seminar.

However, for those of you determined to spend at least some time relaxing, I will be happy to run the Book Bag scheme which was organised so successfully on the last WBTA by Paula Sillars from New Zealand.

Books are on sale in the Treasure Ketch, and The Cove has a cupboard full of very variable offerings for people to borrow, which last time were pretty grim at the start of the cruise but did improve as the voyage got under way.

The idea is that a large bag will be hung on handrail outside our stateroom – 7120 – available for anyone to borrow and, of course, donate books.

If you have a special favourite you are willing to part with, that would be much appreciated to get the Bag going.
I will be bringing my World Book Night choice, One Day by David Nicholls, :thumbsup2which was one of 48 free copies I had to distribute as part of a million-book nationwide giveaway.

Looking forward to seeing you all – Happy reading!

Jane

State Room Tour!

Hi all,

Let's do a State Room Tour! Have you ever thought about trading that verandah for an inside to save a bit of money for that back-to-back cruise you want to do? Or maybe you have a special celebration coming up and you want to see if the suite of your dreams lives up to your wife's expectations (hint, hint). Well, have we got the opportunity for you!

I am in the process of organizing a state room tour...but I need your help! So far, our wonderful cruise mates have volunteered to show off their rooms in categories, 3, 5A, 7A, 9A, 9D, 11A (accessible) and 11A (sideways). We need more volunteers to show off their rooms.

My thought is that we would do this early in the cruise on a sea day in the late morning to accomodate those who have little ones (or others) who like to nap in the afternoon. I have not yet set a date and am hoping for some feedback.

Remember, the tour is only as good as we make it!

Thanks,

Keri
