Star Wars: The Last Jedi - Reaction and Discussion *CONTAINS SPOILERS*

I am only about half way through this thread - but I saw it twice over the weekend and wanted to share my thoughts:
  • Overall, I loved it! Was it my favorite? No, but still loved it!
  • Had to buy the soundtrack immediately. Being a band geek I live for a good soundtrack and I LOVED all the old themes that were brought back for this. (The original princess Leia theme was the only part of the Mary Poppins scene that I didn't hate)
  • Seriously, I was waiting for Yondu to yell out "I'm Mary Poppins, y'all!" That was hard to watch.
  • Snoke seemed insanely anti-climatic for me. He was set up to be a very powerful dark lord, and while I agree with a lot of the previous posters about everything being disected more and more these days, I still thought he would be someone like Plagueis or Palpatine. (Deep down I'm still hoping he's Palpatine and that he isn't really down and out)
  • Rey also seemed very anti-climatic. Why set it up like a mystery with it coming back in a mad rush when she touches the lightsaber to have her be a "nobody"? I'm thinking it's miss-direction and we will find out there is more there. I am still in the she and Kylo are siblings camp and the Force-connection cemented that for me
  • LOVED Yoda, was secretly hoping for either him or Obi Wan and was so happy he turned up
  • I'm sorry, but I really disliked Rose. That whole storyline was unnecessarily long and boring.
  • Luke's ending was so epic. Loved the twin sunset at the end. Cried though
  • Also cried when he kissed Carrie on the forehead. Beautiful
  • I'm sure I'm in the minority, or at least I was when I stopped reading to add my thoughts, but I liked the comedy. When Luke tells Rey to "reach out" and then tickels her with the branch was one of my favorite parts! "That's the Force! Wow! It must be really strong in you!" *SMACK :rotfl:
  • I noticed on my second viewing how much he blames Obi Wan for Vader and that didn't sit quite well with me.
I kind of like leaving movies with questions, that means it kept my interest and it gets me stoked for the in between books and the next movie. I've always been super into the books and while part of me will be sad that we didn't get a Thrawn trilogy :duck:I am looking forward to reading Phasma, and whatever else comes before the next film.

That's what I was saying-but I thought it was for sure the same boy Finn encountered on the Casino run, maybe not?

Will have to watch again.

Yeah - I think that was the same boy cause he had Rose's rebellion ring...I was thinking I'm not sure if that boy will be in 9 - depends on how far in the future 9 takes place maybe? That specific boy may have just been more symbolic for 8, but may not play a role in 9 - we'll have lots of time to wait and see!!

Nope. Not at all. ESB is by far my least favorite of the OT, and if I rank them all, it's below some of the others as well. Darker does not equal Better for me. I probably have unconventional tastes when it comes to Star Wars though. The middle of both trilogies has been my least favorite so far.

Nah, it's cool to go against the grain. Not like my opinion matters more than anyone else, and my tastes are certainly unusual. Who wanted the Death Eaters to win? This girl. I even made a full death eater costume and curse being too short to pull off a Vader costume. Now I'm wondering what your fave SW movie is? I'm betting on Ewoks.

If we can have Jedi ghosts, why not Sith ghosts? If only the light gets that power, what does the dark side get that the light doesn't? ETA: since we've seen Yoda, why not Vader at the end? I mean, how much would it rock to see him in all his helmeted glory one more time?

From reading expanded universe books (including some that are considered canon) the "force ghost" is only a power granted to those that are part of the light side ... the dark side gets the Force lightening. If I recall correctly it is because the dark side of the Force is about manipulating and twisting the Force, while the light side is about becoming one with the Force

It is also what those on the dark side are so focused on extending their own lives and Plageus worked on being able to create life so he could life on forever - and they can do Force transfers (where you transfer your essence into another vessel - but still a living body)

Well, you asked:

1 & 2: These seem to vacillate between Return of the Jedi and The Phantom Menace (Yes, you read that right).
3: A New Hope
4: Rogue One
5: Revenge of the Sith
6: The Force Awakens
7: Empire Strikes Back
8: Attack of the Clones

That said, I LOVE all of these movies. They are all great and make me happy. Also, on top of any of that, I rank the vast majority of The Clone Wars series and even a lot of Rebels above any of the live action stuff. Those shows are great! I won't add Last Jedi to the rankings until I see it a few more times, but I think it will be in the lower portion of the list.

well, we already have Anakin as a light side Force Ghost .... so not sure how Vader could come back

To your ETA, Vader cannot be a force ghost, but Anakin Skywalker, Jedi Knight, is! He returned to the light at the end of his life. Now, in the old EU, I think Palpatine did transfer his consciousness into a clone body (I am not an EU expert). I was betting Snoke would have been something like that. If that holds true though, maybe we haven't even seen the last of Snoke.

Right - thanks for the reminder! Anakin (#eyeroll how Vader came from that twerp, IDK) is a ghost, too bad Vader didn't force transfer himself.

The Snoke thing was a letdown in the movie, but I'm still ok with it, seems like a lost opportunity though.

And you love rainbows and kittens...

I loved the scene in which Snoke bit it - but I do wish there was more of him prior to that as he seems like he kicks all sorts of *** but didn't really get to show it

I did see Rain Johnson said Snoke is in Episode 9 so hopefully more to come

and of all the things I don't like about the prequels #1 is how they didn't show effectively how Anakin could be Vader ... like I get the storyline they were going for, but still don't believe it

I do.

But that's not to say I don't like darker movies. Often I do, but I don't equate darker with better, as some people seem to. My biggest problems with ESB come from it's position as the middle of the story, with neither a beginning or an ending. ROTS is one of the darker films in the series, and I rate it highly, along with Rogue One. Rogue one is pretty gritty, but I love it.

You know I tease:)

ROTS is a bit underrated.

All of the prequels are a bit underrated. ROTS seems to be the most liked, i.e. darker. I think people think that it gives what are essentially silly movies legitimacy and makes it okay to like them as an adult. I never grew up, so I don't worry about such things. Star Wars isn't serious. It's always basically been a Saturday morning cartoon, and there's nothing wrong with that. I for one appreciated the humor in The Last Jedi, which at least helps balance out the downer message.

I love costumes and ROTS brought a SW A game. The costumes and alien species are a lot of my love for SW.

I largely didn't mind the humor, but didn't think that Luke was trying for funny when he threw the light saber. That was a straight up dismissal and I'm confused about people being put off by it. I thought it was great.

Oh, and if you want to see an Anakin who does come off a bit better than in the movies and heads down that road to becoming Vader, watch the Clone Wars. It makes him more likable though so his downfall would seem more tragic, not that it sounds like that's a problem for you since you seem to be a Sith apprentice as it is. ;)

If Leia could fly through space after being sucked out into space, why couldn’t mace windu flynafter being pushed out of a window? He was obviously more powerful than Leia.
