I apologize if this question has been asked, I can't get search to work for me. What resturaunts would you say might be either walk-ins or bookable on very short notice? And conversely, what resturaunts would you say to book far in advance? I'd be especially interested in any personal experiences of getting into a resturant as a walk-in.

Resort restaurants at lunchtime are pretty easy. Anything at lunch is probably a little easier. I booked Chefs de France for lunch just a day ahead of time last May and walked in at Kona for lunch. Probably wouldn't be so easy during free dining, though.

This past June we were able to walk into:
San Angel for dinner, 50's Prime Time and Yak n Yeti.
As far as being able to book short notice...anything is possible. I tried for 3 months to get an ADR at Chef Mickeys for our Dec. trip and finally got one 1 week before we arrived.

ETA: Ones that I would book well in advance:
LeCellier
Ohana
Chef Mickeys
Crystal Palace
Tusker House breakfast
1900 Park Fare
CRT
Mama Melrose but only if you want a Fantasmic package.

The character meals are the toughest.

We've gotten Le Cellier as a walkup right at the start of dinner before.
