We are heading to Disney in a little less then a month. My boyfriend, Tom and I are going with his sister, his brother in law, and their two young children (ages 1 and 4). :goodvibes

Tom snores BIG TIME! :eek:It is not his fault, I know, but I cannot help but get frustrated when I am woken up multiple times throughout the night.:sad2: I have invested in a white noise machine which I will be bringing to WDW which does help, but does not always drown out the FULL loudness of his snores.

We are all staying the same room at the Hilton (got a suite with 2 double beds, pull out couch, and a crib for the little one). I am just concerned that Tom may wake up the little ones or his sister and his brother in law who are so generously providing us with a *free* hotel stay.

Any tips, or products out there that have worked for others who share this uh, issue? :confused3

Thanks!!

As you can see, when your trip gets so close, you start going over every possible detail of what can go wrong!!

I don't know but I hope you find a good answer. My wife has made me sleep on the balcony and in the tub because of my snoring! :rotfl:

Snoring is a bit of an issue in my house as well -- both the dog and my husband seem to have snoring competitions with each other.

You didn't say why he snores. There are a variety of over the counter products that help certain conditions but it really depends on the cause of his snoring. Is it sleep apnea? (If so he really should be under the care of a doctor). It is due to excess tissue in his throat area or perhaps the way his nose is shaped?

My husband uses Advair for his asthma. One of the side effects of Advair is that it causes yeast infections in the back of the mouth and throat. The person using the medication doesn't have any symptoms and often does even know about the yeast infections BUT it causes snoring. So every so often when the snoring gets really bad my husband has to get a prescription from the doctor for yeast infection medication.

I feel your pain!! We just book suites or villas now. :lmao: Probably not helpful, but I just wanted to commiserate with you. ;)

We bring our sound machine from home and it helps DROWN out the noise, that & a fan. ;)

I feel your pain - both my mother and my husband snore like BEARS!

I've never thought about the white noise machine - I may have to get one of those before we go.

I just normally take along ear plugs - my 4yr old seems to sleep right through it - so she doesn't wear them. I have to say that I don't really like wearing the ear plugs - but they have been a life saver!!!

technically it is his fault. he can go to a doctor, it might be sleep apnea if it is really bad or get a mouth guard from a doctor, it can help with breathing/sleeping better.

That's the crappy attitude my wife has about it. It's my fault. I went to the doctor and they want to do surgery that has a success rate of about 2 % and isn't covered by insurance. Oh and it causes you lots of pain for the rest of your life. Most remedies are useless except the CPAP machine which you can get for sleep apnea. And that isn't pleasant either.

Is the suite like a one or two bedroom condo, where the rooms are separated by a door?

Might check the Hilton website or call to get more info on the suite, maybe it won't be a problem at all.

I'm guessing his sister may already know he snores?

His OTHER sister(NOT the one that is accompanying us to WDW) is a sleep technician. It has nothing to do with sleep apnea...believe me, I wish there was a quick fix or an easy solution.

I was just curious as to if anyone shares this problem and if so, what are their solutions....

My sleep consists of...

ah in bed alas! what a LONG day. Boy this bed is really SO comfy! i toss and turn and eventually find the PERFECT, most comfortable position...i slowly begin drifting off to la-la land where i start to envision the castle and all the characters running to greet me...i am running to them and just about to hug donald when all of a sudden, wait what was that...SNOOOOORREEEEEEE....GR awake already?? ugh, so I gently nudge him and politely ask Tom to roll on his side...in which Tom responds, "I wasn't even snoring." I don't know why I insist on trying to explain to him that he indeed WAS snoring, but it never seems to work out in my favor. Within about 45 seconds Tom is back to sleep while I am laying there slowly trying to make my way back to la-la land.

It is a continuous cycle and I am somewhat used to it, although it does not make it any easier. The thing I worry about is in WDW, waking the children or his sister and brother in law.

I know they have mouth guards, he would never wear one and I don't think it would even stay in all night. The have the nose strips..any success with those from anyone?

I have also seen throat strips that dissolve? and nasal spray...have not tried them yet...do not want to waste money if they are just a scam...:headache:

I do appreciate all of you out there that share my sympathies...it's tough being a bug and it's also though sleeping next to a snorer!

The suite is one GIANT room. So although it is a spacious, room...we will all be sleeping in the same vicinity.

Well his sister moved out about 5 years ago and Tom's snoring just started about 3 years ago. Strange I know, but it has intensified. Sometimes it is so loud he even wakes himself up! She is aware that he snores but I don't think she fully understands the volume in which he snores.

WOW. That's a whole lotta togtherness. Personally, if it were me, I'd get me and "Tom" our own room. I would 1) be concerned that his snoring would bug everybody and make for very grumpy people on a daily basis; 2) what if the young kids don't sleep well at night, either from Tom's snoring or from just not being in their usual bed; and 3) only 1 bathroom for all those people. I just couldn't do it. Can you get a separate room, maybe a connecting room that way you have 2 bathrooms and at night when the kids go to sleep, the adults can chat and have a drink in the other room?

Just a thought!

BTW, my DH is a snorer too and while DD can sleep through anything, I can't and so I use ear plugs!

When my BIL stayed in a room with us, we wore earplugs.

I have read somewhere that if you strap or tape a tennis ball to the snorer's back (their pajama back), they can't roll onto their back, and they will stay on their side and not snore.

We always book a 2 or 3 bedroom condo at WH due to my dh's snoring..for under $100 a night! The extra bathroom is great too!

I agree, it is a lot of togetherness, but we love each other...does that make a difference? LOL

If I could, I would. We just decided to go about 2 weeks ago and the only factor that really 'pushed' us to go was the fact that the hotel was going to be completly free. We really did not think we could afford - air fare, hotel, park tickets, and daily expenses. (thank god for timing, because without our tax refund, there would be no way we could swing a WDW world trip that fast!) The fact that his sister and brother in law so generously offered us to stay with them (even begged us at one point to come) was really the deciding factor. We figured we would never have this oppurtunity again.

AS most of you know, 2 weeks is not a whole lot of planning and saving time for WDW. I have been there before and love the place and jumped at the oppurtunity to go.

I will bring ear plugs for all, white noise machine, nose strips, and a tennis ball! We will treat Tom like a science experiment...and I will come back with a full report on how things went! :)

I'm assuming you've already tried the over-the-counter stuff the prevent snoring. Have you tried a mouthpiece? A friend of mines sleep apnea was fairly mild, and the mouthpiece got rid of all her symptoms. And have you checked places like the People's Pharmacy website? Some of the homeopathic remedies can work really well.

No, we have not tried the mouth piece. I just cannot see him agreeing to wear it, but if it will contribute to everyone else's good night sleep then it is worth a shot! I will look into it and have him try it before we go.

We tried the nasal spray, was a total bust!

The strips help but they are not 100% effective...really depends...

I will check that website now. I have never heard of it before...thanks for the advice!
