October 2011 Car Rental Rates

Keep checking Alamo, rates are dropping for the end of the month. I've been waiting for weeks to see some movement and finally in the last few days it's dropped each day. Saved another $30+ this morning. :)

Yeah, I've noticed little movement last night. It's dropped about $16 for a standard car and now sits at $340 which is still high.

Same here. Saved just $20 this morning though.

I just checked Alamo and did not see any savings on my compact rental (I've got $134 total for Nov 1-8, which I snagged weeks ago) but a premium came up for a total of just $9 more, so I booked that. Must have been a weird special because the compact was over $170 base, no taxes!

What's the difference between a compact and a premium? I figured the premium would give us more room. We've got three people, including an 80-year old aunt so what the hey.

Despite the fact that I keep checking daily, Autoslash just modified by ressie and has me down to $164 for 10/22-10/28. (Dollar) Not quite as low as I'd like it, almost to my "will rent" price of $150.

Hoping to see it come lower...but now I'm off to look for those city specail rates that Syndrom talked about...

I've always used National when renting at MCO but the rate is outrageous for my trip next week ($287 - I've never paid more than $160). I just checked Dollar and can save over a hundred bucks however I've never used them before.

As an Emerald member of National, I've always just walked out to the aisle, picked my vehicle and paid at the gate on the way out.

Is there a similar procedure available with Dollar?

Tammy

I just checked again at noon and it's dropped another $30. so that's $60+ since last night. I'm using a 20% off promotion that expires on Oct. 31 plus the $35. off. Right now it's $273ish with tax in for Oct 30 - Nov 12. for a standard size.

Yep it'll give you a little more room. :) Difference is like a Ford Focus to a Crown Victoria.

Well I think I am done. I am going to try one more time again tomorrow. My booked price with Budget for a minivan is $299 for 10/16-10/22 (no Saturday night stayover). I have gone up to $33 for Priceline and it hasn't been accepted. That would bring my rental to roughly $265. Oh well. I guess $299 is a good deal.

Hate to repeat myself but it just came down another $30. That makes over $100 drop since yesterday.:cool1:

I got a rate of $263 with Alamo yesterday (Oct. 20-31) and this morning it lowered to $238. I was very excited with my $25 savings and also that I was able to use Alamo, which we really like. I always use Car Rental Savers, but I had signed up for AutoSlash a couple of months ago just in case. They notified me this afternoon that they made me a new reservation for $206 with Advantage. I am really excited about the savings, but disappointed that it was not with Alamo or another company that I have used before. Anyone use Advantage before and like or dislike the service?? :confused3

It seems that the best deals are in the morning.....

Thanks, my res with Alamo is down to the standard price right now. I'd rather use Alamo if it's similar. I like being able to choose the car. :)

Wahooo! Just got a full size at Dollar for $160 out the door. I hope Alamo comes down, because I'd rather use them, but for $30.00 and a bigger car, I'll take it.

Bring your own boosters? Saves you money and quite often you can gate check them with the airline. Just a suggestion. In 2004 we rented from Dollar and paid for a carseat. It was NASTY. Dirty and old. I had to cover it with a towel because I didn't want my son to touch the thing when he was in it.

I just checked this morning and was able to get a full size for $150 for a week total! My dates are 10/25 - 11/1. Also checked Alamo and they're $122 more for the same time period using the insider code and the $35 coupon.

Just checked Costco Travel for rates and no movement there. Pretty happy with what I've got. $255 for an Alamo premium for 10/14-10/24. A premium for $25+ a day. I can live with that!

Picking up tonight at 8 PM...hoping there's something left!!:worship:

I'm with you. I guess I'm done too. This October has been very frustrating for some of us Alamo and National users. After remaining high for so long National did drop for me this week and I was so glad I stayed on top of it. On Tuesday my rate with National dropped from $500 to $343 -- which I booked so fast I had to check and recheck to make sure I got the right dates. Then within minutes it went back up and dropped again the next day for a short time in the morning. After that, both companies are back up to $600+ for my timeframe. I'm thrilled to have snagged the $343 rate (2 week rental using the Executive Aisle). I'll now get to keep my Executive Status through 2013. For those October folks still waiting and watching, I wish you all the luck next Tuesday for the next round of last minute fares. I've been peeking at the November thread and it looks like those folks are snagging some great deals. Not sure why October's Alamo and National users were hung out to dry. I know there are a few of us, who had the right day and right time and right length of rental, who managed a decent rate, but there seem to be alot of folks not getting good rates and have had to stray to different companies. Good luck! (though I'll still be taking a look at the rates before going to bed tonight...leaving around 4:30AM Saturday morning.) :car:
