Disney’s Resort Massage & Fitness Spa Reviews

Edit: this experience was 2 weeks after the Disney takeover of tbe spas.

Our Disney honeymoon was wonderful, but everything about out massage experience on Disney property was stressful and not worth what we paid.

To begin, I tried researching available treatments and pricing before we left for the trip. The Disney site is very poorly arranged in terms of researching spa offerings. I eventually gave up because there was no single page that listed both treatment descriptions and prices together. The spa site also had an outdated message that said the GF spa would be closed while we were there. We ultimately decided to wait until we arrived and get assistance from Disney staff with scheduling.

Imagine our surprise when the concierge at French Quarter informed us that she was not allowed to help us schedule spa services! When we asked about brochures, she told us tbere were none. She handed us a hard to read photocopy of the phone numbers of various locations that had fitness centers and told us we had to call each one to find out if they offered massages. At this point, I just wanted to forget it, but hubby really wanted the massage.

Back at the room, we began making calls. The GF was open, but the rates they quoted over the phone were almost double what I had found on the website. $380 for a couples massage is ridiculous even on Disney property. After seven phone calls we decided on separate 50 minute Swedish massages at Animal Kingdom Lodge.

About 2 hours before the appointment we realized we forgot the 15% off voucher in the room. We checked with customer relations at Animal Kingdom Park, who called to see if theycould look it up by our room key or take us a few minutes late so we could go to our room to get it. After 20 minutes on the phone, they told her no to both, so it was back to the room for us. That part i know was my fault.

Once we got the voucher, we still had an hour til the appt, which should have gotten us there in time. We got stuck waiting 23 minutes on the AKL bus while thevdrivers changed. Once on the bus, we found out there were 2 AKL bus stops, and the driver told us there were masssage services at both. The spa staff should have given us this info when we schedulec. Luckily another passenger overheard and told us one stop was the DVC building, so we decided to do the other building. Once we finally got there, with 1 minuteto spare, we asked an employee outside where to go for massages. He had no idea. He sent us to another person who sent us to a stairway that took us to a dead end. We finally found a concierge who walked us down personally. By now we were 10 minutes late.

My hubby enjoyed his massage, but mine was terrible. The MT pretty much ignored my midback and calves, which were the areas I asked her to target. Any time she started working a spot that needed it, i would tell her and she would immediately move on to a different area. Hubby's MT did give him about 5 of the 10 minutes back that we were late for, but mine did not.

At checkout, no one asked about our experience, and they automatically added a 20% gratuity, which my MT certainly did not deserve. They also talked in front of us about how there were no more appointments after us that day, completely conflucting with their claim that they could not push our appts back. In all, we ended up paying 60% more for 50 minute swedish than we would have paid for 80 minute hot rock at home, and i didn't even feel relaxed!

So in summary, do vacation at Disney, but don't use their spas.

Hi I've just booked a manicure for me and magical manicure for DD for our April trip at GF spa :). Does anyone know if we will be able to have any sort of Disney design painted on our nails?

Will do. I asked when I booked and they lady on the phone said she wasn't sure but as the therapists were super creative she thought they may be able to! I'll let you know once we get back xx

Just booked an appointment at Senses Spa!!! Can't wait to have a swedish massage and enjoy the new facility! I made the appointment during my kids nap time so that way my husband can relax in the room and the kids can rest :) While Mommy has a nice getaway :) I plan to take my time afterwards and enjoy the steam room and jacuzzi :)

I am going next month so I will let ya'll know how it is :)

I love spas and would love to see some more feedback from people now that Disney runs them! The spa at the GF is the one I would be using! Thanks!pixiedust:

Wow no new senses review all month??? I will be heading there in 2 weeks. Dh and I are both getting the signature treatment. I will blog his and her perspective for everyone. I am suprised so few reviews have come back. I am really only seeing press items.

DD and I had manicures last month. The spa is beautiful and very relaxing. When I booked I asked if we would be able to have some sort of Disney design and was told probably. Unfortunately this wasn't the case we could only have plain nails. The manicure itself was really nice and our nails looked great. I think it was almost a week before either of us got a chip, but as we had been given the nail varnish to take away we were able to touch up the chips which was great. Unfortunately when I got home and took the nail varnish off my nails had all flaked at the ends. We've been back for 3 weeks now and my nails have all broken, split and flaked! I've had manicures in the past and this has never happened so I can only assume that some of the creams did not agree with me! It's a real shame because I won't go back for a manicure but I might try some other treatments in the future. I'll be really interested to hear anyone else's experiences xx

Anybody tried the refurbished facilities at the YC/BC resort? They were in the process of refurbishing it when I was on my last vacation, would love to know how it turned out .

Sorry for the delay, my mom just had double knee replacement as soon as I got back from WDW 2 weeks ago so things have been crazed. I took so many pics and have a thorough review coming on my blog. DH and I both did the Signature treatment. We were pleasantly surprised by the takeover , and very happy to se Nikki Bryan go and Disney step in, even though the prices have gone up, the treatments and facilities are that much better. I will be posting on my blog soon!

When you book a manicure, does that give you access to all of the spa facilities like massages and facials do?

We were hoping to surprise my mum for her birthday with a spa treatment. $135 for a massage really is too much so I was considering just a manicure. We are staying at SSR so hope to try out Senses there although the GF menu seems more appealing!

I've never had a manicure so I really need advice- is it relaxing? My mum is in need of a break. :lmao: :dance3: :upsidedow

Yes I believe anyone booking a treatment can. It is "just" a manicure but at $45 it is a pricey manicure! I would confirm at booking but there are different manicures on each journey. I have the link to the brochure in my review, if you need it. So that means it is considered a treatment and you are a paying spa guests so of course!
