Poor DD
Glad it wasn't any worse and you guys were still able to take the trip!
Ugh I'm sorry the flight was such a nightmare!
Sounds like a pretty decent time in Washington! Except for the impetigo scare- glad you were able to keep it under control!
Yay California! Your hotel seems really nice.
Sounds like a nice dinner!
Can't wait to read about your first park day!
Welcome!!!
I was so so thankful the break wasn't that bad, not just for the trip of course, but also because I would hate for her to be in so much pain! Luckily it was a pretty minor injury and didn't impact our trip at all and the orthopedic doc gave us his blessing to go.
It was really nice getting to spend some time with family we only get to see every few years. And the atmosphere was SO beautiful out where DH's aunt lives. I wouldn't mind retiring there some day and becoming regulars at
Disneyland!
You sure had a rocky start to this trip. I sure hope the rest was uneventful as far as falls and sickness goes. Looking forward to reading all about it.
Luckily the rest of our hiccups in the trip were not health related!! lol
Joining in! I read (and enjoy!) all of your reports, but this is my first time commenting. I will be spending 2 days at Disneyland this Oct when I head to Anaheim to see our mutual love, HANSON!
Welcome and thanks for commenting!!
THAT'S AWESOME! I'm bummed to be missing them in Disney World this year, but I am lucky enough to be seeing them in New Orleans next month. I have been burning out my iPod playing all their songs for the last few weeks to get ready!!
In-flight entertainment is one of the best inventions for parents.
Those shows and movies saved my skin on the international legs of my flights.
Flying into Long Beach sounds a lot more relaxing than LAX. I'm sure you appreciated being able to pick up the rental car right at the airport. Saved you some time and effort.
Your room looked very nice and that view in the daytime was really pretty.
Cross country with two little was intimidating enough, I couldn't even imagine international! But yes, in-flight entertainment was a lifesaver on two of our three flights, thankfully.
It was SO much better! I couldn't believe how easy and stress free it was compared to LAX. Unfortunately it didn't line up to be able to fly out of Long Beach again to go home, but it's an option we will definitely keep in mind on future trips.
It was great to get to stay somewhere new but with all the amenities we are used to, plus an awesome view of the parks!
Maybe the ramps were designed that way to make sure it wasn't one big steep ramp? That way people didn't gain too much speed and crash...I don't know, I'm just spitballing.
After climbing the Spanish Steps in Rome, I find all those steps with little breaks in the middle ridiculous.
I'm sure that's what it was, but it definitely still could have been done better! The staircase was so wide, one half easily could have been a zigzagging ramp to get down to the street. Having to criss-cross back and forth the whole way was just plain ridiculous!!
Interesting. I guess if you can't have real Italian Quattro Formaggi pizza or WDW's version, then this is a good third option.
Yes, it's a decent runner-up.
Well, I'm certainly glad it was better than the first flight and there was no re-appearance of breakfast.
YES! Amen to that!!! Any flight would be an improvement over being puked on by your kid.
Probably some crazy California law about the slope of the ramp and having a landing between or something. But yes, I can tell how ridiculous it is from the picture and your description and I'd definitely just carry or "bounce" the stroller up the steps.
It was completely absurd. Clearly whoever designed it has never pushed a stroller or wheelchair! I could think of 5 other ways the same thing could have been accomplished better. lol
Really? Huh, hadn't picked up on that one.
I've sprinkled in subtle hints throughout past TRs.
It's a tough one. You don't want to give up something good, but if she's like our kids, sometimes it's a battle just to get them to eat anything...
I just want to say I enjoyed Dustin's podcast and I actually just started listening to yours this morning. I got about as far into it as you got on this update, so needless to say you've really been making me crave some good pizza this morning.
She's usually a pretty good eater, way better than DS in any case! I just don't like sharing my delicious bread. lol
Thanks for giving us a listen! It was really fun to do a different type of TR.
Woot - joining in and catching up. I'm terrible on TRs lately, but here I am! Always enjoy a good sojourn to DLR, since we get out there so infrequently.
I've had trouble keeping up too, so no worries. Thanks for joining in!
I know exactly what you mean. It's so fun to read about DL and live vicariously since we have to go so long between trips.
Joining in! I love reading TR's of other families with kids, since I so identify with the problems and joys!
As soon as you started saying something about how you thought the trip would go well and that the kids would just sleep I giggled inside (slightly hysterically). We made that mistake (both flying and driving) several times when we had littles. It works for some people really well, but NOT for us! We don't travel late at night anymore unless we absolutely don't have a choice! I'm glad you made it there safely at least, though, especially after all your pre-trip drama! I'm glad your second flight was smoother! Looking forward to hearing about your park time!
Welcome! Traveling with kids is really a whole different ballgame.
I find myself identifying with so much when reading other TRs of people with littles.
lol I read that advice all of the time and it definitely DID NOT work for us!!!!! Lesson learned. We were kind of stuck with that flight since it was the only good option for a nonstop flight, so we took a gamble and it didn't work out well for us. But we made it there, and that's all that matters now looking back.
