Cigarettes,Ice & Stroller News

I feel like the smoking ban will just encourage people to try to "hide" their cigarettes around the park. The people who don't follow rules will continue not to, and the people who were previously following the rules may be tempted to break them rather than leave the park.

I am rabidly anti smoking (dad and sister both dead of lung cancer - one at 43, one at 51) but I feel like making it harder to smoke will just make more people try to sneak their smokes.

I think the smoking ban is great, I've always thought that cigarettes should be just banned entirely from everywhere. My grandmother died of lung cancer, never smoked a day in her life, but my grandfather smoked constantly and always around her.

For strollers I'll have to look closer at the new rules soon since we are trying for a baby so will need one. Strollers never bothered me in the parks before, but some did seem rather large. Disney offers stroller rentals of their own, don't they? I'd probably look into that to know for sure it was within the rules.

I'm sorry for the loss of your grandma. And it's probably unnecessary for you to rent a stroller for one baby. You'd be hard pressed to find a single one outside these parameters. Good luck!

Will we enjoy having to walk from the back of the park to the front and doing security 5 times a day. Absolutely

I just don't understand why you all have to go?

Congratulations for having no compassion, since you have stated multiple times how you don't care about anyone else's feelings on this matter. Yes, actually, we all enjoy those 5 minute breaks. I get to check my social media or set up our next FP+, the kids get off of their feet for a couple of minutes or play tag or something. Will we enjoy having to walk from the back of the park to the front and doing security 5 times a day. Absolutely not.

Things are getting heated, not surprisingly, but the poster was just being frank and to the point. Current smokers have a choice to make; quit smoking and stay in the parks as much as they want, or keep smoking and have to interrupt their time in the park. That is Disney's decision, like it or not. If it's going to be that big of a hassle, then honestly, starting today get him to quit smoking.

No compassion? The same could be said about yourself....you're choosing to drag the kids across the park at least 5 times in one park visit to smoke a cigarette (while exposing them to second hand smoke). Sure, the smoke breaks are nice in those smoking areas, but those days are gone now. You might change your tune real quick after the 2nd or 3rd time across the park in the packed heat. You think your kids wont whine about yet "another smoke break"?? They're your kids, your business. But keep in mind you havent actually had to leave the park to smoke yet. It'll get tiring really fast. Best of luck.

Oh, and i stand by my comment. I have zero sympathy for smokers. Sorry. I feel bad for your kids, but not the actual smoker(s). I grew up with two parents who were both chain smokers. My sis and i dont smoke at all. So i do have personal experience with this.

I never said I don't care about anyone else's feelings on this matter. I just don't feel sorry for smokers who can't smoke in public. Sorry, not sorry.

I just stated that YOU and/or HIM now have to decide on how best to handle the new ban. I suggested you think about what's more important to each of you time-wise. You're the one complaining that it will take 2-3 hours out of your day.

You are complaining about losing precious time in Disney World because of new smoking rules... It's just hard to feel sorry for someone that is there EVERY WEEK... a place that others can only manage to go annually. I didn't mean it as a personal attack.

Enforcing rules is not their strong point.

Indeed. I don't have enough fingers and toes to count the number of people I have seen smoking outside the now-gone smoking sections.

I'm not a smoker and do not like the smell, etc... but making it harder for smokers to comply with the rules will only mean the rules are broken more. And already, Disney doesn't enforce the rules.

Let's just hope now that they try harder to enforce the rules. Since it's banned entirely now, it will be easier to tell people to stop as opposed to determining if they are actually in the smoking area, just exhaling, heading to a smoking area, etc.

I agree. Enforcing rules isnt their strong point at all. I've seen many people smoke outside of the smoking areas. Here at work we have the "smoking police" who patrol the grounds (as smoking is prohibited on hospital property). Perhaps disney should consider this as well, temporarily at least. They can make it fun. The smoking police can wear cute mickey ears and everything.

My mom was a smoker and my siblings and I are not. However, I still have empathy for people who have an addiction. I bite my nails and literally absolutely nothing has helped me stop. Even if I get acrylic nails, I bite those. Addictions are real and not always a choice. I *know* it will get tiring and that is why I am already upset with it. I have seen him try to quit, but his anxiety and addiction are so strong it has never even been a whole week. He's even gone through rehab programs.

While it would be great that the new smoking ban could encourage some smokers to quit, no one is saying they have to. They still have the option to smoke outside the park.

When my son needed to wear a cooling vest, we bought a vest that used "icepacks" that froze at 58 degrees. So only a refrigerator was required.

For those that need medical supplies cooled, First Aid almost always had room to store his extra set of cooling packs.

I don't think the mini-refrigerators at value resorts have a freezer section.

Addictions are real

I don't think anyone has said that addictions aren't real. And it will be a pain on him (as my first comment in this thread, I'm glad my parents decided they weren't going back already because it is too much on them, they wouldn't be able to handle it). But they planned their smoke breaks around our plans, not the other way around.

You can be compassionate about his addiction without having to cater to it. I wish you the best and happy touring.
