RotR Planning & Daily Boarding Group Discussion - *CLOSED*

Everyone who is so inclined to arrive sufficiently early will get in a BG - there is no separate process for on or off site guests.

If anything, off site guests and/or on site guests who are driving have an advantage because they control their transportation time more so than on site guests who may need to rely on bus, ride share, etc.
Thank you so much! I wasn't sure if the early opening times was strictly Extra Magic Hours, so glad to see its for everyone!! Thank you again for your quick response!

Going in January with the BF for a day to see all Star Wars & HS. I'm a local AP & the 30 day window to make FP's is approaching. He will probably be a 1 day & done (at least for awhile depending how fun I can make this day lol).

Trying to understand & educate myself on the Boarding Group stuff (normally I avoid new rides for awhile). I know we'll need to get to park early to get in line pre-opening (already planned on that). But then when the park opens once we are both inside I sign us up for a BG. I assume it will appear on my Disney app or do I need to do something ahead of time? Or is it easier for me to go to a CM since he only will have a 1 day ticket linked to my account?

Once I get us a BG then what happens? Do you have any idea estimation when your BG might happen? I see you are notified thru the app. Can you keep track of what group they are on too? How long do you have to respond when your BG happens?

What about making FP's for other rides? I am hoping after we get our BG to then go get in line to ride MF & then explore the land/stores/etc. I think making FP's starting after 11am/12pm is safe then? Park is scheduled to open at 8am right now. I guess it depends how long the return window for the BG is? Obviously that's the MUST DO for us. TIA!!
  • After DHS tapstyle entry you may use MDE to request a boarding group (BG) for you and your party, and you will get the BG assigned straight away (as long as they are still available).
  • You can also use CM's help to obtain the BG if preferred -- the method of obtaining the BG does not appear to affect the assignment.
  • You will not know the exact time to return (there are frequent ride shut downs), but you will be pushed a notice on your device once your BG is eligible to enter the line (you are given a two-hour window -- unclear if they allow guests to enter the queue later).
  • You can also track the current BG on MDE and even leave the park while waiting, if desired. Your FP selections are not affected by your BG, so make those as soon as you can.
Note: The park has been allowing guests through the tapstyles around 6:35am regardless of official opening time. Some days the BGs are fully assigned within an hour.

You may want to follow this thread (second post). I don’t know how long @Aeril620 is willing to keep it up.
People have been getting in line at 5am for a 6:45ish opening. The first people in line get the earliest BG’s. All BG’s are usually gone in 1hour.

I just want to say a huge Thank You for everyone posting their experiences, updating onsite, and patiently answering questions. We are DLR regulars and I'm curious to see how it will all work out here (although I assume that it will be BG too). My DD does All-Star cheer so we have been going for cheer Summit the last few years in May but we don't know if she will compete until her team gets an invite. So we might be at WDW in May but if not, we will definitely hit DLR.
On a side note, I'm really curious to see how many people will line up early for DLR since it's really a locals park and when we go (even on weekends) it's generally quiet before 10am. We still have MaxPass out here and not everyone purchases it and so who knows if BG assignment on the app will be available to non-MaxPass guests. I'm wondering if MP will give a benefit to get a BG sooner since everyone else will need to wait in line for a CM to assign them. I assume most people at WDW use MDE but out here, MaxPass (which allows you to make FP on the app) is extra.

At least for now, it hasn't been necessary to get to DHS before 6:45am (assuming you are flexible in how late your group is called). Of course, there's risk that later groups won't board on days with extended delays, but it appears all groups have been getting called lately. We'll see if that changes next week. It seems that Disney would rather err on the side of ending distribution early than getting caught with guests that got a BG but didn't get to ride.

We are headed to try our luck at this in the morning. Walking from the Dolphin! I’m interested to see how it is going to go with the forecast of thunderstorms. 🤞🏻

Do all the outdoor rides shut down if there is thunder? It was pouring at hs last night but no thunder.

Wear your bathing suits to get BG’s 😂 Then go back to hotel to get in dry clothes. Rain supposed to be gone by 8am

Do you think this will continue into February? We are going in Feb and it's going to be really hard for us to get there prior to 7am with two young kids. I wish they would do fastpasses instead.

So I'm not going until next September. Any educated guesses on how long before this ride allows fast passes? Could it be a year or? Just wondering how it's happened with extremely popular rides.

I prefer no FP+ because anyone without a long onsite stay will not be able to get one. Alas our trip is in August so I’m sure we are stick with FP+ or insane rope drop.
