*****Official April 2020 thread*****

5 weeks out. Will WDW be closed for more than 5 weeks? And do I want to be the first guest allowed back into the parks?

Honestly the USA is going to get a lot worse. If you compare the response compared to other countries its been pretty bad. I think in 3 to 4 weeks ls it's going to be a lot worse with areas all in lock down. I think 2 months is even a slim chance

Honestly I don't think Disney really "Wants" to close the parks. I think they "Need" to so they can avoid the negative press they would get if they stayed open. They close for the announced 2 weeks and they did their part which exempts them from any media bashing. I believe they will be fully open on April 1st but will the crowds return? I do know there is a lot more availability at resorts now for our April trip. Last night I changed our Beach Club, CL to Yacht Club, CL for $380 less. I am expecting larger discounts over the next few weeks. If they were not planning on opening they wouldn't bother with trying to fill the rooms.

They let half there staff go. There not opening till ta least may unless they just open one or 2 parks

I think people are under estimating how much worse this is going to get

Joining in to this thread. Been planning our first ever family trip for a year and a half now. Scheduled to check in after the 20th for 2 weeks. So far, we're going to keep it scheduled. We're already planning to drive (5 points for social distancing), staying in the cabins (3 points for social distancing) and plan to take all the proper health precautions then quarantine for 2-3 weeks once we're back home (we homeschool, husband can work remotely).

But we'll see...not feeling like it'll happen so I'm going to put a deposit down on a Plan B trip for the end of May and if that falls through then September (but my 9 year old will be 10 by then 😆💸). It's going to be a very long waiting game these next few weeks. I think I will try and get my April Cirque du Soleil show tickets refunded though (if they'll allow it).

I think there is a lot more that goes into it. There are several states closing down restaurants and pubs. Ireland closed all pubs until the end of March. Spain and France closed all restaurants, cinemas, museums. I think disney needed to shut down for more reasons then just negative press. As far as if they will open in April...it depends completely on how much people stay home now and how much we can flatten the curve of this virus.

Florida 20% of population is over 65. Compare that to califorina and Washington who are 15% who are already have big outbreaks. Airport staff at Orlando just tested positive. If you think Florida is going to be OK in 2 weeks your dreaming

Personally I do not think Florida will be okay in 2 weeks nor will any other state. What I do think is Disney can only take this financial hit for so long so they will open on April 1st. My previous statements as well as this one are just my opinion, not backed by any facts, so I will not be one of the ones to say "They will" or "They won't" and no one should unless they have facts to support their statement. I will always say "I Think" or "I Believe" because that's my opinion.

Sad day, but joining the ranks of the cancelling for our trip 4/19-4/26. The governor of Massachusetts just extended school closures statewide for 3 weeks, and even if the parks open and the curve of the virus spread takes a positive turn, I just cant see how the optics of going there looks good to anyone.

But I have all my restaurants and fastpass plans saved in multiple spreadsheets, so here’s to making a new set of plans for Feb 2021!

I think you are correct from my insight I do not think April is going to be any better, Disney will open but the health concerns will still be there.

If WDW is still closed in 2 months you can forget about ever going to WDW again. Disney will shutter it to stop the bleeding in the rest of their entertainment business.

As much as I can understand your frustrations, there’s no way this is true. Unless you just throw every business into this mix, Disney and WDW will eventually reopen without concerns and people will come back. I guarantee you that everyone cancelling now will likely be rebooking in 6-12 months.

I am keeping my fingers crossed Disney World will open back up April 1st (we have a trip 4/6-4/12) but just incase they extend the closing, I just finished booking some backup trips.
May 21-30 Yacht Club
June 4-13 Contemporary
July 2-11 Yacht Club

Losing hope fast for end of April with the new CDC recommendation to limit group gatherings >50 people for the next 8 weeks... comforting myself today by booking back-up dates in June and September. But I really want April!!!

Yeah, there's no way WDW is reopening on April 1st, IMHO. DS asked yesterday what our chances were of going, I was at 20% chance yesterday, I'm down to like less than 1% today with the gatherings of 50 or less directive.

I do think it will reopen at some point, though, and continue on. Things will be different, projects will be stalled and pushed back or axed. I remember seeing the half-built second half of Pop Century just sitting there for years. Things came back around and now we have Art of Animation, but it took a while. I'm expecting more things like this. Of course I'm hoping that a half-torn-down Future World in Epcot won't just sit there for years...but I'm guessing there will be portions of the plans that are pared back quite a bit.

All that said, I'll probably keep my plans in place a bit longer for mid-April and just see how this continues to evolve.
