Routine Physical?

I keep thinking of my neighbors friend who went in for a routine mammogram last year and found out she had a very rare and aggressive form of breast cancer that would have taken her life in a matter of months. She had no symptoms and no family history.

Our BIG radiology center where most area mammograms are done have cancelled all routine mammograms. Of course, if you think you have an issue you can get one. But I guess due to the closeness of the procedure between patient and tech, they think it's too risky.

I was supposed to have my physical last week. They cancelled it.

I have a dog scheduled to be spayed at the end of April, I'm really hoping that they don't cancel that.

Our puppy was supposed to be neutered last week but that was cancelled because it's non-essential. However, our neighbor's puppy did get spayed because it is considered essential as female non-spayed dogs have a higher chance of cancer and other health issues. We have the same vet.

I work for a family doctor and we are open for business. Any one who are sick are seen in there car.

I am very suprised that op got the response that he/she got I had to pistpine one none estail the other thought it was so she us doing all appointments by phone

I was supposed to go in about 2 weeks for a routine checkup with my primary doctor. The office called yesterday to say they are only taking emergencies and are rescheduling everyone else. It was what I expected. The gave me an appointment in late July.

OP, if it can wait, and you don’t feel comfortable going, then don’t. I hope they will authorize your prescriptions. IMO, they should be accommodating to their patients’ needs at this time.

I would cancel a routine physical

I have an appointment with my endocrinologist the end of May, blood work a week before......we'll see

My sister had an appointment with a doctor about her trigger finger yesterday. The doc wanted to do a web conference. She insisted that he would need to physically see her, so she went to her appointment.

I think she was foolish. She is 29 and our parents are 75 and 77. She lives with them.

If it's not life threatening, I wouldn't leave my house.

A doctor here died a couple days ago, because a patient coughed on him a couple weeks ago, before we really understood how the virus was transmitted. :(

I would definitely cancel. I think all routine appointments in my state are canceled.

I'm thinking of rescheduling still, but need to confirm if the doctor will still renew my prescriptions without it for now.

If they won't completely renew the prescription, tell them to call the pharmacy for a 1 month refill, till your next appointment. A doctor I used to go to used to do that. Sometimes I had to cancel & reschedule. Sometimes they did, and it left me short of pills, so they'd call in the 1 month refill and I'd have my new appointment scheduled during that time.

Mammogram was supposed to be last week. Rescheduled for June.

DD's well exam was supposed to be yesterday. Since it didn't require a mandatory vaccine it was rescheduled to June.
DD's 6 month dentist was supposed to be last Tuesday. Again, regular check up. Scheduled to you guessed it, June.

Mine was scheduled March 23. I got the blood test and EKG and everything, but then cancelled - the stay at home order went into effect on the 21st, and routine visits were included in the order.

Rescheduled for mid April -- we'll see.

I have to go every 3 months to get my prescriptions filled but thankfully my next appt. isn't until May. I'll play it by ear until then but I'm thinking they might just fill them for another month by phone. I have a mammo scheduled for April 10 at the local hospital. I haven't cancelled it yet, waiting to see if they cancel it first. I will probably cancel it if they don't because I'm thinking a hospital isn't the right place to go right now. The initial check in for the mammo floor is the same place just about everyone else checks in.

Thanks everyone! That pretty much confirms how I felt about all of it. I was shocked and disappointed that they still expected me to come. I'm going to cancel and reschedule and we'll just have to see what they say about the prescriptions. I get that they are screening at the door but nobody is perfect. I think it's irresponsible of them continue seeing otherwise well people right now.

I had already decided to cancel the mammogram. I've been keeping up with them so am just now closing in on one year. A few more months shouldn't be an issue.

What are they screening for? People can appear perfectly healthy and infect others.

I'm aware. And that's what disappointed me about their approach.

She said they were taking temps and asking about coughing and other symptoms.

I went to mine 2 weeks ago, but have not gone back for my blood test results discussion. My doctor doesn't do ANYTHING digitally, so I have to wait. :sad2: They called me to schedule the follow up, but I declined.

I don't know why doctors insist on that kind of follow up visit, except of course they can bill for it. Unless there is a serious problem, results should just be mailed to the patient or posted to an online patient portal.

I couldn’t agree more, trust me. Especially since I just had my cholesterol checked in December. It shouldn’t be different.

Are any of you keeping long scheduled appointments for physicals? I have one coming up in a few weeks and I'm not excited about stepping foot inside a doctor's office building. I called last week to confirm the date and she said they are still keeping those appointments and seemed put off that I was considering rescheduling. She says they are screening at the door and I should still come. I found that a little surprising.

I'm thinking of rescheduling still, but need to confirm if the doctor will still renew my prescriptions without it for now.

Nope. I canceled mine even before they put a moratorium on well visits, and told my doctor I would see her again when this all got a little less crazy. She was happy to fill any prescriptions for me but I didn't need anything.

I am scheduled for a Pet Scan on Thursday. It will take place. Fortunately, it will be done in my oncologists office. It is a separate office used only for testing and radiation treatments, so very few people there at a time. I'm not crazy about going in, but I need the tests to determine if I should continue chemo treatment or if I am in remission.
