Disneyland Reopening Speculation Superthread

This year during those months, I would show up mid morning when it wasn't so cold, and I wouldn't be bunched up into the crowds (also wanted to avoid the ROTR madness).

It was crazy cold when we were there with cold winds most mornings- that sure didn’t help things! It made me hesitant to come back in December for awhile!

Another WDW link on open/closed attractions. Nothing too noteworthy- surprised to see almost everything running! But no Savi’s Workshop.

So who wants to wager on when we will hear the official thumbs up or thumbs down from the State of California? We will have to hear something prior to the 17th... either “we’re on” or “were delayed”. Next week? One week before? July 16th at midnight?

Based on no real insight and just my assumption Disney (and via our boy Iger on the state whatcha call it committee) wants this approved soon... I am going to go with we’ll hear something June 25th. And then the details on our reservation system will drop June 26th. I’ll bet one churro, maybe two. Obviously, this is just me throwing darts at the board for fun haha.

I bet that every single thing that they released for Walt Disney World they already know what they’re doing for Disneyland, and will release it all within 2 hours of getting government approval.

Yeah, I don't believe this. They even added a virtual queues button to the DL app.

I have a sneaking suspicion that virtual queues will replace Max pass. People who have Maxpass will be able to wait in virtual queues while those without it will have to do standby.
I wondered how the virtual queues might work but this actually makes a lot of sense.

You guys, if I’m looking at this right, Savis will NOT be open. The list includes Droid Depot, but not Savis. Dining isn’t listed at all, so I can’t confirm Ogas. Is anyone else seeing the same?

Our local ABC station had reported DL would use the Standby Pass - it’s used in Shanghai.

WDW may need the number of guests willing to wait to ride the attractions to calculate how to implement the Standby Pass to keep waits low within social distanced queues.

Shanghai info:

Thank you for posting this! That Shanghai DL article was interesting. If they do the same or similar at DL, then it sounds to me like it would operate in a similar way to how Max Pass does. With Max Pass (like FP), you can't have >1 FP for a ride. Same with this Standby Pass...they'll only let you be in 1 virtual queue at a time.

That's similar to the DAS rules, which give you a return time for only ONE ride at a time. The Shanghai DL site also said that not all attractions will have a Standby Pass. So you know what this means? You could get a Standby Pass for a more popular ride and then stand in a real line for a less-popular ride while you wait for your Standby Pass return time.

So essentially the same thing at FP.

This will totally work. Especially with reduced park capacity/fewer people in the park. I am now REALLY looking forward to our Labor Day weekend trip!

I don’t know why you wouldn’t do virtual queues for certain rides in each park. ROTR, FOP and 7DMT would probably benefit the most from virtual queues. Even with lower capacity, do you want the majority of your guests to flock to one ride first thing?

I think that they could implement more of a MaxPass system and only get one virtual queue at a time, but at least it would space the number of people waiting out throughout the day.

Do we think the DL reservation system will be the same as WDW, specificially being able to make reservations until September 2021? I was thinking about getting a refund on our DL tickets just to get the money back on my credit card, but now I'm thinking I should wait? We have 3 day base tickets

Yep. Cloth masks were not permitted at any of the 3 recent doctor's appointments I have gone to. I showed up to one in a surgical mask and they asked me to remove it and they gave me another surgical mask from their own supply before I could enter the building. At another appointment, I was asked to swap my cloth mask for a surgical one (kids were wearing disposable KN95 type and they were allowed to keep those on). At the last one, cloth masks were allowed in the waiting room (we were the only ones in there), but not in the exam rooms. I carry both types with me now.
Where I live, doctor offices don't seem to want you to wear their surgical masks. IF people wear masks around town, they are homemade cloth masks. We did have an issue with the thermal scanner at my daughter's doctor's office. In the lobby, she was scanned as having a fever of 101. (We had been waiting in the car to come in.) They sent us into a side door and the nurse took her temperature orally and it was 98.3. So, that was a big discrepancy between her skin temp and her body temp.

The surgical masks and KN95 I have are "knockoff" from China via ebay, not real ones. They even say on the box that they are "not for medical use."

I'm guessing most people walking around with "surgical masks" are like me and have knock offs.

My son and I both came home extremely sick from our trip in December. I remember mentioning in one the boards here (can't remember what we were all talking about) and how this family and their small kids sat right behind us during the xmas parade and proceeded to hack and cough all over us the entire parade. Like big ole juicy coughs! They might not have been the ones who got us sick (I was sure it was them though because I ended up with bronchitis lol) but yiiiikes! Imagining that being 'okay' now is mind blowing... Although I didn't think it was okay then to take your sick kids to Disney but I digress...

I always think about that moment with the cancellations of parades and fireworks and yup, makes sense to me! People get crazy close to you at things like that.

Oh 💯 those people got you sick..... that stinks! People have to stop traveling when they’re sick, and businesses and airlines have to change their cancellation policies to be more flexible. That’s part of the reason why people travel when they’re sick. We have to drive to Texas to look at houses next month, and the kennel says I have to pay in full if I don’t cancel within 72 hours. I got really angry on the phone and told them this is why people continue on with their plans.... because businesses punish you for canceling. I told them I expected no charges if we had to cancel our trip last minute due to illness. It’s amazing to me that companies aren’t rethinking these policies given what we are currently going through. 😳

I don’t know how I feel about the opening of DL... so I need to vent my feelings a bit... (don’t know if it fits here... so mods feel free to delete it or move it...)

On the one hand I am so happy that it finally opens again and I get to see all those great trip reports and all those questions on how to do things there again... I love trip planning...

But on the other hand I don’t know if it’s to early... those infection numbers I see from the US (or even just California) are mind blowing if you compare them to Germany for example and even here people are still very worried...(well... some are not and that’s even more worrisome) and I personally don’t feel safe to do to much unnecessary stuff indoors.
I just hate the idea of DL having to close again. That would be devastating...
So I keep my fingers crossed that it works out just fine!

Not that I plan on going anytime soon...(Closed borders and still uncertainty about finding a job) but at least it feels good to have a theoretical BW hotel reservation for thanksgiving... I really hope for next summer though...

oh, and the stuff I read here about masks in sealed ziplock bags and so on... Yuck... I already feel the urge to thoroughly wash myself just thinking of all that fungi and bacteria growing happily...

Oh it’s too early. And the masks are gross. I bought a box of crappy surgical masks that literally do nothing protection wise, but at least they’ll let us in should we decide to go to DLR for our September trip. It’s impossible to avoid cross contamination with masks unless you’re throwing them away or washing after each use. So that’s what we plan on doing.

I was really hoping Disneyland would stay closed until September, because honestly, after schools open, all bets are off and I don’t really think Disneyland is more dangerous than a school.
