Disneyland Reopening Speculation Superthread

We'd really like to pop down to Disneyland about a week after opening... but it could be a long shot since we don't have tickets or a reservation. It's looking near impossible to get that kind of a reservation at WDW. Do you think it will be equally difficult at DL? People plan their DL visits different than WDW trips. People plan WDW trips sometimes more than a year in advance and there are so many more options for staying ON property. Tons of people don't stay on property at DL. So, my thought it that it might actually be possible to get tickets and a reservation. But then again, maybe I'm delusional. What are your thoughts?

I know we've posted on this quite a few times, but now that we see that resort guests will have a separate designation, do we think that will include people with vacation packages that usually have tickets delivered to the hotel desks? I can't see how they wouldn't have some system in place for us, but maybe I'm wrong.
Personally I think Disney will do something for all Disney Hotel guests for priority access

I"m on a reopening Task Force (I like saying that, it makes me feel important, even if no one listens to me!), and one of our people is an infectious disease doctor. She said that their nurses have 5 N95 masks and wear one per day, put it in a plastic ziplock, leave it for a week, and then rewear it. At the hospital. She said the virus can't survive for a week in the ziplock bag, so then they can reuse their masks.

I was noticing today that when I was looking at the California Covid19 website, it specifically says that all theme parks are still closed and not allowed to reopen. I'm guessing Disney has the inside scoop from Governor Newsome and knows that they will announce that CA can open theme parks by July 17, but I still think that's a little odd.....
theme parks are supposed to be allowed to open in Phase 3...

They put together their plan and submitted it to the state. But the state could still say nope, I don’t think so.

theme parks are supposed to be allowed to open in Phase 3...
But each phase is then broken down into smaller stages. Today was 3.3 with nail salons, tattoo shops and other similar businesses.

Theme Parks could be allowed in a few weeks (expected) or it could be months from now (safer option). It will all depend on the public following the safety protocols to slow the spread.

Not sure if this has already day been posted, but it appears WDW is allowing AP holders on the monthly plan to fully cancel their passes with no further payments.

I know that’s for WDW, not DL, but I don’t think that sounds so great, honestly. Cancel for refund is good, but the alternative is just an extra month?

For starters, I’m thinking Flex vs Sig. In terms of access, they are essentially the same pass (except Flex must make reservations on weekends and busiest days) only they come at a way different cost. Just adding one additional month doesn’t seem to make up for that huge disparity now that everything is going reservation only.

Since the AP situation at DL is different than at WDW, there’s a decent chance DL will have a completely different resolution. But the WDW announcement doesn’t give me a lot of confidence that DL APs will get a fair resolution.

Especially since the new reservation period could last into 2021, “here’s an extra month for your troubles” doesn’t really do it for me. (And still no word on how APs that have MaxPass will be handeled). Fingers crossed we get a better deal at DL!

Has anyone ever dealt with converting a special event ticket to a regular park ticket? I’m a little worried with the reservation system and my DAD Villains ticket they still won’t refund but are instead allowing to use for a regular park day...is there any way to convert that ahead of time or is it something that has to be done in person?

I have my vacation from May rescheduled for December 6-12th; flying to WDW first, 2nd-6th, for a friends wedding and heading over to the west coast for DLR. I know it’s not an ideal time for a first trip given these circumstances but that’s the vacation time I have approved so it is what it is. Looking forward to getting holiday time on both coasts and hoping for a few experiences to return by then, but will make the most of my time there either way, providing covid lets me get there! :)

Blog Mickey is reporting WDW APs can only hold 2 park reservations if they are not onsite guests:

https://blogmickey.com/2020/06/annu...-two-disney-park-pass-reservations-at-a-time/
The linked article now says that APs have been updated to 3 allowed reservations:
"UPDATE: Disney has expanded the maximum amount of reservations an Annual Passholder can have at one time to 3..."

...
-Advantage would be to the Platinum Premium holders without blackouts -- can literally reserve entire year...
Do you mean Signature and Signature Plus? We don't have a Platinum level pass and the Premium AP was phased out a few years ago (very few of those left, I think).

I don’t know how I feel about the opening of DL... so I need to vent my feelings a bit... (don’t know if it fits here... so mods feel free to delete it or move it...)

On the one hand I am so happy that it finally opens again and I get to see all those great trip reports and all those questions on how to do things there again... I love trip planning...

But on the other hand I don’t know if it’s to early... those infection numbers I see from the US (or even just California) are mind blowing if you compare them to Germany for example and even here people are still very worried...(well... some are not and that’s even more worrisome) and I personally don’t feel safe to do to much unnecessary stuff indoors.
I just hate the idea of DL having to close again. That would be devastating...
So I keep my fingers crossed that it works out just fine!

Not that I plan on going anytime soon...(Closed borders and still uncertainty about finding a job) but at least it feels good to have a theoretical BW hotel reservation for thanksgiving... I really hope for next summer though...

oh, and the stuff I read here about masks in sealed ziplock bags and so on... Yuck... I already feel the urge to thoroughly wash myself just thinking of all that fungi and bacteria growing happily...

This is just speculative fiction and I have NO inside knowledge.

Is it just me or is the conversation I hear in my head a possibility: DLR ground team management, “we’ve brokered a deal with the unions and state and we have a plan to re-open DLR. We will open DTD July 9th, the hotels to welcome guests on July 23rd and the parks the 24th“. Disney senior management...spits coffee across room, “wait what...what date did you say for the parks? DL has never been closed on it’s anniversary and won’t be on my watch. We open the parks on the 17th or you won’t be here after the 17th.“ DLR ground team:....what about the Unions, City and State?” Disney: “it seems you have to make some magic happen”.

Mike (hopefully returning to the magic July 26-29th)

Is it just me
Well, Disney always trains CMs to believe that Safety is the #1 concern before “show.” Sadly, Disney had never been all that concerned with health standards or protocols.

One example: DD used to be flown all over the eastern half of the country on emergency Make A Wish visits. She was never asked how she was feeling and never had her temperature checked prior to Mickey meeting patients in the hospitals or in private homes. The team didn’t even have wipes with them to wipe off Mickey’s nose between patients so DD would use her own stash of wipes.

Now in the middle of a pandemic, Disney has to protect CMs and Guests before the “show.” I still believe they’ll open on the 17th but if not, they
at least can show they attempted to bring on the “show.”

Idk. It's not really any different. Perception, maybe?
Doesn't WDW open a month from today? I would expect Disney should start releasing some of this info soon.

It’s really not though. People have to pay attention. I took my kids 3/6 and was extremely vigilant. I was constantly reminding them not to touch their faces when we rode rides and as we were walking off rides we were using hand sanitizer, with very frequent hand washing throughout the day. It was a lot of work on my part, but no one caught so much as a sniffle that day at Disneyland. I also made my little one leave her lovie in the stroller and wouldn’t let her take it out! It grosses me out now to think we used to let her take it on rides. 🤣 Although none of us has ever come home sick from a Disneyland trip.... something to be said for germ exposure and a strong immune system!

My son and I both came home extremely sick from our trip in December. I remember mentioning in one the boards here (can't remember what we were all talking about) and how this family and their small kids sat right behind us during the xmas parade and proceeded to hack and cough all over us the entire parade. Like big ole juicy coughs! They might not have been the ones who got us sick (I was sure it was them though because I ended up with bronchitis lol) but yiiiikes! Imagining that being 'okay' now is mind blowing... Although I didn't think it was okay then to take your sick kids to Disney but I digress...

I always think about that moment with the cancellations of parades and fireworks and yup, makes sense to me! People get crazy close to you at things like that.

Its going to be hard, I wouldn't bank on the fact that it's a different beast compared to WDW. There are a lot of locals who are absolutely going to try and go since it's been closed for so long.

Obviously no one knows how long ticket sales will be paused, but without tickets in hand to make a reservation when the system first opens, I think getting a reservation within the first week would not be probable.

I remember you mentioning it! I notice when I have gotten sick at DL it's usually dead in the winter (December and January). This year during those months, I would show up mid morning when it wasn't so cold, and I wouldn't be bunched up into the crowds (also wanted to avoid the ROTR madness).

Side note: I did go to WDW back in January. Apparently that was the coldest week in Orlando (just our luck lol). Each day I wore a spirit jersey or thermal shirt, a light jacket, a down parka, gloves, and a fleece lined beanie. We rode in the crowded plan, packed buses, watched fireworks, and participated in their ROTR madness at 5am. Made it the whole week without getting sick...and we didn't catch the coronavirus. I'm sure it was around then, we just didn't know...

So who wants to wager on when we will hear the official thumbs up or thumbs down from the State of California? We will have to hear something prior to the 17th... either “we’re on” or “were delayed”. Next week? One week before? July 16th at midnight?
