Disneyland Reopening Speculation Superthread

Fair, but if those things can be done safely, why not? WDW has been open almost 2 months, through the peak of cases in FL, and there was no spread there attributed to the parks. DL/DCA as well as UA, Legoland, and Sea World have proven they can be open safely. Why not let them?

WDW has far less of a population of people in comparison to DL/DCA, they have to take into account that a lot of locals are going to want to go to DL/DCA. It's easy to say that WDW has done a great job because they have 1/2 the population of OC and LA county.

Oh yeah I keep forgetting about the population sizes....

It really doesn't matter what the population sizes are. Disney will be severely limiting attendance at their parks and Downtown Disney when they reopen. A set number of people will be allowed on-site on any given day. Same as at WDW. It literally doesn’t matter where the attendees live.

While this may be true, it is still a different beast imo. It's more condensed in comparison to WDW. Also lets not forget DTD is in the same area as DL/DCA so they are going to also have to figure out how to make that work too.

Agreed..but isn't that what we have a lot of now, time?? lol..esp since spending all this time on these forums waiting for that glimmer of hope.

Yep. Unions could be a problem. But that article... *eyeroll* a quote “Questionable safety practices include a lack of on-site testing, unregulated flow of visitors and a policy discouraging employees from 'ruffling feathers' of maskless patrons. And with no on-site testing, employees claim that unreasonable barriers like long lines and high costs could increase infections.”

Reality
-its not a questionable safety practice to not have on-site testing (personally I will raise hell if they do right now. CA Health department is still prioritizing tests and requiring screening before administering one due to testing shortages.)
-unregulated flow of visitors is literally a lie
-discouraging employees from “ruffling feathers” of maskless patrons is also literally a lie

It’s clickbait. Don’t waste your time.
that is what we have a lot of...time...o_O

This.
With an assumed park reservation system it takes the surrounding population out of the equation. No reservation, no reason to be there. Otherwise, would agree, DL/DCA has a much more dynamic group of guests. There are roughly the same number of people within a 2 hour drive of DL/DCA than there are in the entire state of FL.

Well said Lumpy1106! I was thinking the same thing. Since they will more than likely have a reservation system, it probably won't matter. They will only allow a certain amount of people in every day. I'm still of the thought that they could open sooner than later. We don't know for absolutely sure that Disney reopening has to do with the tiers thing completely, especially since Newsom talks about how theme parks as being different. He knows ALOT of people are hurting in California and Anaheim and that Disney and the other theme parks employ tons of people in and around them. He will eventually (hopefully soon) have to be the "hero" and get things rolling again. I hope that made sense. Thanks again Lumpy1106.

What is there to figure out with regards to DtD? It's an outdoor mall. The actual outdoor space is not subject to capacity restrictions (by the government). Only indoor retail and dining capacities exist, so having people pass through DtD isn't a problem that needs to be solved.

People arriving by car will come in on the tram from M&Fs or will come in the Harbor entrance. Tram drop off is beyond the edge of DtD, as is the Harbor gate. They may close the walkway from the Pixar Pals structure to DtD to limit pedestrian traffic coming through DtD.

It's not that complicated.

The only reason they are limiting attendance right now at DtD is due to there being a limited amount of places for people to actually shop and dine at. Once those capacities increase, so will the crowds at DtD.

Once the parks open, they will likely reinstate the parking charge for the Simba Lot for DtD which will naturally lower the number of people coming without a reason to be there (like a dining reservation).

but there are still differences. WDW hit their capacity for the reservations this weekend for the first time and the crowds were reported to be much higher with much longer wait times and people all over than At any time since the actual opening. We know with the differences in the populations and guest at Disneyland that it will be at the capacity every single day. We don’t know what that will look like. I am one that am happy things are cautious and yes, I know I don’t have to go and I probably won’t right away despite having VGC reservations for October, November, and January.

They could very well use a different "capacity threshold" at DLR takikg that into account. Whereas WDW may be 25-30%, maybe DLR will only be 20% or less at first?

This is one of the reasons I’m inclined to visit early if possible. It seems that they’ll start very conservative but maybe ease up? So I’d like to be there when it’s as limited as possible.

IF the parks are reopening soon, and IF it’s favorable for people with APs to visit and IF, IF, IF... I think my ideal would be to get a reservation for a few days after it opens. Give them a couple of days to correct any major issues, have some time to read reports and cancel if needed, but get in at the height of restrictions...

We are lockdown isolating to see a high-risk friend soon, and then we’re taking an RV trip during the last half of October, so who knows if that will be possible... but that’s my ideal.

Made the call to modify my reservations for the week of Sept 20th. Pushed them back a few extra weeks this time, but I've done that so many times now that I'm not getting my hopes up. It was sad to see the hotel rates go up so much this time around. But such is life. I'll be interested to see what kind of nightly rates they release for Jan - March when they finally open up reservations for 2021. I'm wondering if they are waiting to open up the 2021 reservations until they know when they will actually open the parks. The CM said they usually start booking the next years reservations by the end of August but this year they are hoping for the end of this month or early next month.

I'm trying to decide whether or not to rebook my recently cancelled end-of-Sept reservation. I had planned it for last April. My best friend unexpectedly lost her husband last January and I asked if she'd like a little getaway, which made her very happy. But then came covid and we rebooked for Sept but now, I don't know what to do. She only just got back in her house from a fire that missed her home but burned the family's cabin. Her 2 kids live nearby and are very sweet girls, but she has lost so much in the last year and I was hoping to bring her a little fun. I don't want her to think I'm pushing her to go still but I also don't want her to feel like I'm giving up and it's another loss.
